Best and Worst DVD commentaries ever

You may not believe this but..the best commentary I have ever heard is on the disk for the television premier of the Incredible Hulk TV show. It's the same one on the first season box set for the Pilot episode and Married episode. Director and series writer/creator Kenneth Johnsons obvisously came totally prepared and delivers commentaries on those two episodes that are extremely interesting to hear. He talks about his experiences, his friendship with Bill Bixby, conversations with Stan Lee, and gives a lot of info that could be helpful to a beginning film-maker. Really...If you don't believe me check it out.

One of the worst I've heard is also one of the most entertaining by virtue of just going completely off track. John Carpenter and Kurt Russell give commentary on Big Trouble in Little China, but really reveal nothing. They are all over the place asking about each others kids and what they have done since. If you want to know about the movie it is frustrating..but at the same time hilarious. It feels like they are seeing the movie for the first time in years because they spend a lot of the time dying laughing at what they see in the movie.

SM3 was great and really entertaining. Got a real clear sense of who the cast is- really felt like they were sitting around having a great time recording the commentary for the fans.

Conan the barbarian had a good one.
Star Wars episode one was awful.
Fight Club was fun just because you can hear how much of a dumbass brad pitt is.

I remember the one for the live-action Scooby-Doo movie (the first one), and it's hilarious. The cast is just awesome together.

This also gets my vote as best I've ever listened to. The man was by himself the entire thing and NEVER had a dead space. Through the whole movie he was doling out a lot of info, both technical & informal. Great anecdotes & personal info. This was the first commentary I ever listened to, and it totally spoiled me. His memory of something he'd done almost 30 years ago was just stunning. You could also tell he was very enthusiatic about the movie and proud of it without sounding like a braggart. It's a great commentary track, and it made me really appreciate the TV pilot so much more, which is what these things are supposed to do. So many others I've heard come across as hollow and self-serving compared to Johnson's. It is really worth a listen.

My worst (so far) is the track for the recent release of the Godzilla movie Invasion of Astro-Monster (aka Godzilla vs. Monster Zero). Commentator Stuart Galbraith was the most boring person I've ever heard. The man has a monotone voice, which doesn't help, and despite being a Japanese monster movie buff he seemed to be about as enthusiastic as if he were reading the ingredients on a can of soup - for 90 minutes. Ugh.

His commentary for V-the miniseries is great as well.

SM1 and 2 have the worse commentaries in dvd history. Blade 2's commentaries are just as enjoyable as the movie itself.
