Star Trek: The Motion Picture--Appreciation Thread

How about, don't make me watch STTMP again and just tell me what the Darth Vader part is?

Kirk: You killed my father.
Vador: No, I am your father.
Kirk: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!

"When Spock travels through V'ger and sees all the incredible imagery, Darth Vader and Miss Piggy can be seen. It comes right after his line "Who or what are we dealing with?"."

Found this, hope it helps folks!

I couldn't put my finger on what exactly I liked about TMP... I knew that the statement it made about exploration and discovering new life was relatively profound and original, but I couldn't verbalize it.

Leave it to Q in the TNG finale "All Good Things..." to sum up the underlying theme of every Star Trek production since TMP:

"For that one fraction of a second, you were open to options you had never considered. That is the exploration that awaits you... not mapping stars and studying nebula... but charting the unknown possibilities of existence."

The Motion Picture shares a hell of a lot more with A Space Odyssey: 2001 than it does with The Original Series.

Gonna have to re-watch this now.

Agree 100%

"All Good Things" with a bigger budget would have made a wonderful final farewell movie for the Next Gen crew.

Wowzer....

This movie sucked.
It sucked.
I'm a Trekkie, and I think that it absolutely sucks.
I prefer Nemesis to this.

Ehh...it was okay. The part where they show the Enterprise dragged on and on...

That part when Spock goes through that crazy illusion or whatever is a nightmare of a seizure...

But I liked Nemisis....so don't count it among the lesser Trek movies.
I did too. I don't know why people think it sucked. I thought it was one of the better ST films.

Then again I'm a big Star Trek fan so I may be bias.:woot:

Star Trek: The Motion Picture would have been a much better film if they had cut about 30 mins of it out. It draged on and on with the ship going through V'ger.

I've heard theories that the planet that V'ger came back from might have been a borg planet. Anyone have any opinions on this?

I don't know if there is an "official" opinion on this.....but many people believe it is a good possibility.

The film was supposed to be slow. Robert Wise was inspired by Kubrick's 2001.
