Best CBM villain ever?

I always thought this was the best scene in Dark World.

But like Magneto, Loki gets the benefit of multiple movies. But even based on just Thor, I'd put him with the top villains.

I know I'm going to catch some rolled eyes for this but I actually think Ultron will gain more praise as time passes. I enjoy him more each time I watch AOU.

I'm not as high on Loki as most are. Hiddleston's performances are fine, but the character hasn't really been anything to write home about. The only reason I have him on my list is because he has the benefit of three (soon-to-be four) big-screen appearances.

I agree. Loki is a good villain, Hiddleston is solid, and by far the best MCU villain, not counting Kingpin from the DD TV show who trumps all the MCU baddies. But unlike Kingpin, I've never been overly impressed by Loki. He never had that wow factor that the all time greats have. Thor was definitely his best outing. He was a bit of a mustache twirling baddie in Avengers, and a supporting/side character in TDW with the dull Malekith taking the villain reigns.

Kingpin is probably my favorite MCU villain, but Purple Man is right up there with him. Hard to choose between them.

Kingpin is sublime. I am in awe every time he is on screen.

Other than Zemo, the two villains from the Netflix shows clown anyone from the films.

No disagreements from me.

At the same time Purple Man is one the most vile, despicable, depraved characters I've ever seen in the genre. He'd fit right in a film like Sin City.

Kilgrave was a complete bastard. It's a huge testament to the writers and David Tenant that he was so magnetic and, at times, even a little sympathetic.

I think it gives such a broad spectrum in terms of the MCU. There are some things you can do with a 13 hour movie, that you can experiment with darker themes like in Daredevil and Jessica Jones that you can't with a 2+ hour summer blockbuster.

I do hope Luke Cage is a little lighter though but obviously the same tone.

I enjoyed Spader's Ultron, but that's probably more or less because of Spader himself vs actually being a fan of the character. I think his voiceover work his very captivating in AoU.

Loki is a favorite villain for me because he has so many masterful scenes in his movie appearances. As others have said, his confrontation with Odin about his origins in the first Thor movie was an amazing bit of acting. In both the first movie and TDW, Loki's interactions with his fellow Asgardians were done well and helped establish the kind of person he is and what his motivations are. And he was quite a standout antagonist for the first Avengers movie. His very first scene, where he arrives at the SHIELD base to steal the tesseract, immediately presents him as menacing, crafty, and charismatic, which sets things up perfectly for him to be an effective antagonist for the film.

I agree with the above, and would also add that for me Loki is one of only two villains that really elevates his hero at the same time as his hero elevates him. I only think that Thor/Loki and Xavier/Magneto have really nailed that balance at the top level in superhero movies.

Joker does that too
Just look at how much of a disappointment TDKR was when Joker couldn't return, lol

but seriously, Joker, Loki, and Mags are the top three all day

I can fully understand why the Netflix villains come out on top in people's minds, but it's not really a fair comparison to the movies as the mini series (or whatever you want to call them) have a lot more time to fill out the characters.

DD and JJ were GREAT (I liked JJ even better than DD and that's saying something), but have a major advantage with the villainry (how's that for a word?).

For the movies, I'd have to say Jack and Heath's Jokers were probably my favorites. Loki is a terrific one too....you never know quite what he's going to do next.

They were great from their first appearances so I don't think it has all that much to do with the extra time on television. Plus, Kingpin in Season 2 doesn't get much screen time and he still rocks it.

1. The Joker (Nicholson & Ledger)
2. Magneto (Mckellen & Fassbender)
3. Loki
4. Doctor Octopus
5. Bane
6. General Zod (Stamp)
7. Catwoman (Pfeiffer)
8. Green Goblin (Dafoe)

I usually put Netflix stuff in my "favorite CBM whatever" lists, but technically, they are television and not movies, so I didn't add Kilgrave or Kingpin.

It's hard for me to rank Magneto anywhere near the top when he's been so over-used.

But anywho, I'd say the absolute best of the best is obviously Heath Ledger's Joker. To date, it's still the most nuanced of really any comic book performance, be it hero or villain.

Loki is another heavy hitter, mainly because know when & where to put him so he's perfectly used and doesn't become annoying (like that other guy).

Killgrave from Jessica Jones
the Joker from the Dark Knight
Loki from the Avengers and Thor
the Kingpin from Daredevil

I do really like Spader's Ultron. Any problems with the character or the film (which I generally quite like) in general has nothing to do with his performance. I enjoyed his petulance and elitism. For being a machine that hates humanity, he's ironically human.

1. The Joker (Ledger)
2. Kilgrave
3. Kingpin
4. Magneto (Mckellen and Fassbender)
5. Zemo
6. Loki
7. Frank D'Amico (Kick-ass)
8. William Stryker (Brian Cox)
9. Zod (Michael Shannon - I've never seen the original)
10. Red Skull

Forgot about Dottie Underwood.

1. Nicholson's Joker
2. Pfeiffer's Catwoman (if she counts)
3. Mystique
4. Dottie Underwood (Agent Carter)
5. Deacon Frost (Blade)
6. Lady Deathstrike
7. Scarecrow

Deacon Frost can not possibly be the one of the best. He was always trying to ice skate uphill.
