Batman.

I think if you're going to pick the best character of a franchise, it should be a franchise that has more of an ensemble cast. Otherwise choices like Batman and Spider-man are kind of obvious choices.

That's actually not a bad bet... JK Simmons and Campbell were probably the best things about the series. Campbell was probably hands down the best thing about Spider-Man 3.

And to my knowledge the HAL computer only appeared in 2001: A Space Odyssey
