I voted gladiator, but like someone else said memento - my fav film ever should def be on the shortlist

Great idea ... looking forward to following this thread.

My first vote went to Gladiator.

Pure entertainment ....

I think you should delay when the 2009 poll is and then ultimately the final poll, because Avatar and maybe even Sherlock Holmes could defintely be some peoples film of the year.

And I went with Gladiator, that film is too epic

Well - 2009 movies will not be voted on until late November-early December so most everything will be out by then.

Memento
Gladiator
Titan A.E.
Snatch
Requiem for a Dream
Unbreakable
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon

Its interesting looking at the list ..... many of the films on there do not feel like they are nearly 10 years old!!

I also must have had more money back then .... over half of that list I paid to see on the big screen ....

Avatar opens on the 18th and this could be a massive film and a landmark in visual effects.

How bout January? Alotta great films are often released in December.

I'll have to agree with the Academy and say "Gladiator".

Gladiator/American beauty. It's a tie for me.

Cecil B. Demented? Really?

For me it's a three-way tie between Requiem For A Dream, George Washington, and Almost Famous.

Errr... a lot of those movies were made before we hit the 2000s weren't they?

But anyway, I vote O Brother... Love that film, truly brilliant. But I suppose it's an aquired taste.

Tied between Gladiator ad X-Men. I'll go Gladiator.

Honorable mentions go to Memento and American Psycho

I have it planned to save my vote til the last minute, in case there is a tie, but it looks like 'Gladiator' is going to win this easily. Alot can happen in three weeks though, so I'll hold off on casting my actual vote.

I've seen 'Gladiator', and it's good, but I'm not sure it's the best of 2000. Movies I think might be better:

The Patriot
American Beauty
O Brother, Where Art Thou?
Remember the Titans

Note to poster. The year 2000 was in the 20th Century. The 21st century didn't start until Jan 1st 2001.

Not to make an issue of it, because I was hoping this thread wouldn't have any, but:

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Years in film

20th century in film:
1900s - 1910s - 1920s - 1930s - 1940s - 1950s - 1960s - 1970s - 1980s - 1990s

21st century in film:
2000s

Also,
Correct, it won best picture in 2000, but it came out in 99 so it shouldn't count.

American Beauty won the Best Picture award in 2000 AND still got some major screentime due to it's late release(Oct. '99) which is why I felt it deserved to be included. If you wanted to, a case could be made for some other late releases in 1999 who got 2000 screentime like Fight Club, Dogma, Sleepy Hollow, The Cider House Rules, The Green Mile, and The Talented Mr. Ripley BUT... none of them won Best Picture or any award for that matter.

Gladiator is winning? I'm very surprised by that result, although it's not exactly the strongest year.

I'm going to also mention MEMENTO, which really should have been part of the poll.

There are many films on the poll that should be replaced with Memento.

Yea I mean, The Whole Nine Yards? Meet the Parents? And to top it off, Battlefield Earth?!?!!?!
