There's a thread like this in the movies forum, and it made me think that in recent years, some of the best twist/shocker endings occurred on TV shows. Now granted, this thread will be very spoiler heavy if it kicks off, so I'm just warning you now. I'm going to put spoilers in spoiler tags, but I can't promise everyone will do that, so, just consider yourself warned. Here are some great ones that come to mind:

The Shield series premiere
I don't think anything can top this one. Seeing the central hero cop MURDER an innocent cop for working with Internal Affairs has to be the most shocking thing I've ever seen in a show. Up until that point, the premiere was really good, but nothing we hadn't seen before on shows like NYPD Blue... but this sequence changed EVERYTHING and took the show to a whole other level.

Nip Tuck...
I don't remember the name of the episode, but it was during Season 3... the one with the plane crash incident. First, we see Julia smother a burn victim we're led to believe is her mother, and then if THAT wasn't shocking enough... it turns out her mother was never actually on the plane and she killed some poor innocent person! That made my jaw hit the floor. And that was actually the first time I ever watched that show. Needless to say, since then, I've seen every episode.

Prison Break. I don't even have to name an episode here because EVERY episode leaves me racking my brain with how the heroes (or anti-heroes) are going to get out of their current situation. Although I will say that the season finale was a really awesome cliffhanger... maybe the best. This show is nothing short of amazing.

Alias Seaons 1 and 2 finales:
"Mom?"

"You've been missing for two years."

During 24 Season 3:
The virus sprays right into Gael's face, infecting an entire hotel and the show goes on a three to four week hiatus (I think because of American Idol, which made it even worse.)

24 season 1 ending terry's death

This past cliffhanger for Smallville was very good

Clark sucked into the phantom zone and Lex "possesed" by Zod!

Agree 100% about Prison Break!!!!

Ending of Season 4 of 24

Jack has to fake his death, and start a new life away from his friends and family

Ending of Season 5 of 24

The story is wrapped up, adn than suddenly Jack is grabbed by the chinese and they take him to China

I always thought Alias had great season finals, everytime it was shocking and amazing and your like damn i have to wait another year to find out, just great endings all the time.

Elsewhere I think Battlestar has had some great finals especialy season 2.

diddo, Alias had wicked cliffhangers, but their second half resolutions were always dissappointing.

BSG, the end of Season 1 was amazing, the end of season 2 was even better.

Who can forget the mother of all cliffhangers with a resolution, BOBW from star trek TNG

The season 2 finale of '24'...

Mandy came back and tried to kill Palmer.

I don't care for current TV shows so I'll just mention the season finale of the '92-'93 Beverly Hills 90210 show.

-It was Shannon Doherty's last show so her character was moving to Paris.
-Donna caught David in the back of a limo with another girl.
-Some evil schemers swindled Dylan of his fortune.

24 is great at twist endings. There was the murder of Jack´s wife in season one, Chapelle´s execution in season three, the ending of season four, Logan being the bad guy in season 5.

A lot of good ones said, so I'll say a totally different one, Millenium season 1 finale:
After retrieving the car, Frank returns to the airport to get his wife, only to find that she's been kidnapped.

Lonegun Men:
They decided to sacrifice themselves in order to prevent a deadly virus from escaping. I know not too many people liked the show, but I loved the Gun Men and it was just such a sad send off.

I didn't like the Smallville season finale this year, I thought the previous ones were sooooo much better. Merging two of Superman's best villians into one is a bad idea in my opinion. Especially with how well Lex has been handled throughout the series.

That is a dumb idea. It wreaks of "Lexiac" from whichever of those god-awful Superman movie restart scripts had the balls to "merge" Lex and Brainiac.

Smallville has had some really good cliffhangers in the past though. The first 2 or 3 seasons were great. But once Clark started playing football I lost interest in the show.

the cliffhanger at the end of S2 Of Nip/tuck with the carver was the ultimate in cliffhangers, it was sooo well edited that to ever guess was impossbile

Nothing will ever beat the ending of the Farscape series. I'm not going to explain it, but if you havn't seen it, you don't know about good Cliffhangers.

Expecially since there wasn't going to be ANY episodes or anything after.

Well...we did finally get a resolution with the mini-series. But even that ended in a sort of cliffhanger too. Sad and happy at the same time. I hope they do another mini. Just to catch up on everyone's life.

Hmmm...there are quite a few to list here. I'll list a few that come to mind...

The Shield:
[BLACKOUT]
1x01 Pilot: After a bust, Vic turns around and shoots one of his teammates in the face to save his own ass, thus hooking me for life.

1x06 Cherrypoppers: After an entire episode of Dutch searching for the murderer of a teenage prostitute, the episode ends with no resolution, showing that in real life, things aren't always resolved within the hour.

2x06 Barnstormers: Vic returns to his apartment fully intending to mack on a fly honey, only to find Ronnie in the bedroom, his face badly burned and left for dead.

2x13 Dominoes Falling: After the Strike Team rips off the Armenian mob and sets the course for what will likely be the rest of the series, the season ends with the Strike Team staring at their heap of cash, wondering what they've gotten themselves into.

3x15 On Tilt: The Strike Team dissolves after a huge blowout between Vic and Shane. The audience can't help but wonder what will become of the series.

4x05 Tar Baby: Antwon makes Shane and Army his *****es. Nuff said.

4x13 Ain't That a Shame: The Strike Team whoops it up after catching a couple of cop killers AND hurting the El Salvadorian crime syndicate, not knowing that their asses are essentially busted.

5x111 Postpartum: To ensure that the rest of the team stays safe, Shane takes matters into his own hands and murders Lem in cold blood (effectively becoming the man that Vic was at the end of the pilot). After the rest of the team discovers that Lem has been murdered, Vic proclaims, "We're going to find whoever did this and kill him," as the camera focuses in Shane. Probably the most shocking event of the series next to the pilot.[/BLACKOUT]

Buffy the Vampire Slayer:

[BLACKOUT]2x22 Becoming, Part II: After killing Angel, Buffy takes off, seemingly for good.

4x13 The I in Team: As Professor Walsh prepares to use her homemade monster to destroy Buffy, the creature awakens and skewers her.

5x01 Buffy vs. Dracula: After four years of an only child, Buffy returns home and suddenly has a sister - and acts as though it's always been that way. Say what you will about the Dawn character, but that was a shocking moment indeed.

5x15 I Was Made to Love You: Buffy returns home to find her mother dead on the couch. In a mostly throwaway episode, this was an ending for the books.

6x21 Two to Go: After defeating Buffy in hand-to-hand combat, Willow proclaims that there's no one left on Earth to stop her. Cue Giles, sporting a hefty load of magic and his Ripper 'tude.

6x22 Grave: Instead of removing his microchip which inhibits him from harming humans, a demon shaman restores Spike's soul.[/BLACKOUT]

Angel:

[BLACKOUT]2x09 The Trial: After discovering there's no way to save a now-human Darla from the virus that's eating away at her and moments after Darla accepts this fate, Lindsay McDonald barges in with vampiress Drusilla, overpowers Angel, and re-sires Darla.

2x10 Reunion: Angel willingly allows Darla and Drusilla to slaughter a roomfull of lawyers, and then fires his staff when they attempt an impromptu intervention.

2x15 Reprise: Having lost all faith in his hope for humanity, Angel gives in and sleeps with Darla. Hours later, he awakens in a way familiar to Buffyverse fans.

3x01 Heartthrob: The audience discovers that Darla is pregnant after her night of passion in Reprise.

3x09 Lullaby: Rather than revert to a cold-blooded monster when she gives birth to her son, Darla stakes herself so that the boy can live. Upon discovering that Angel now has a son, vampire hunter Holtz allows him to live - for now.

3x19 The Price: Angel and the gang have been preparing for a great destroyer, and they finally meet him - in the form of Angel's missing son, Connor, now an 18 year old boy.

5x22 Not Fade Away: Angel and the gang go out in a blaze of glory.[/BLACKOUT]

24:

Pretty much every episode, but a couple of notable ones:

[BLACKOUT]1x23 10:00 PM - 11:00 PM: The audience learns that Nina is, in fact, a traitor.

1x24 11:00 PM - 12:00 AM: Jack saves the day and returns to CTU, only to find that during Nina's escape, she shot and killed Jack's wife Teri, who was also pregnant.

2x24 Day 2: 7:00 AM - 8:00 AM: After the threat of World War III has been averted, President David Palmer is addressing a crowd, only to be attacked as he's returning to his limo.

4x24 Day 4: 6:00 AM - 7:00 AM: In order to prevent a war with China, Jack must fake his own death and live on the run.

5x16 Day 5: 10:00 PM - 11:00 PM: In perhaps one of the most shocking twists in the 24's entire run, the man behind the attacks on the country is revealed to be none other than the President of the United States.

5x24 Day 5: 6:00 AM - 7:00 AM: Jack is abducted by the Chinese government and loaded up on a ship headed for Shanghai.[/BLACKOUT]

LOST:
[BLACKOUT]
1x23 Exodus Part II: After months and months of fan speculation, the castaways finally open the mysterious hatch - only to be shown nothing that's inside except for the darkness within.

2x20 Two for the Road: In a shocking twist, the newly returned Michael turns on his fellow castaways, shooting two of them and letting one of the Others go free.

[/BLACKOUT]

Those are just a few I can think of right now. I'll post more as they come to me.

I would have to go with the End of ~Series one of the Mortal Kombat Live Action Tv show. Shoa Khan Pretty much wins as he beat all the heros. And since the series was cancled the heroes never came back so Shao Khan won meaning the actual bad guy won in the end and not the heros that was pretty cool.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season 2, Becoming Part II

Gilmore girls 6th season finale:

lorelai waking up in christopher's bed

no wait that is the worst thing ever! they totally screw gg, for us!! :csad: :csad:

OMG, yes. I just sat and stared at the television for a good five minutes. Just...staring. I couldn't believe they did that (and I got into Farscape late so I knew that there was The Peacekeeper Wars). I don't know how people watching it when it aired even dealt with that.

We flipped a **** on a bunch of message boards.

I'd have to say Bufy Killing Angel and sending him to hell right after he got his soul back.

I would *so* have been right there with you. I'm so glad that they at least got to do the miniseries.
