Best TV Cliffhanger/Shocker Endings

I'm not 100% sure since i haven't seen the series in a while but X-Files one season ended with a clifferhangar where Scully found an Alien ship on a beach. Its only when the camera pans out that you realize it.

Diagnosis Murder once had a pretty shocking ending where Community General blew up.

The final episode of Seinfeld was pretty good as well. I loved the idea of the 4 (Seinfeld, George, Elaine & Kramer) being confronted with their past in a court room, great way to get all the guest stars back. When you see all dispicable things they did it made so much sense to send them to jail.Great ending.

That was a cop out series finale to Seinfield. Anything would have been better than that. Even the dreaded main character waking up and "...it was all a dream.." ending.

There's a thread like this in the movies forum, and it made me think that in recent years, some of the best twist/shocker endings occurred on TV shows. Now granted, this thread will be very spoiler heavy if it kicks off, so I'm just warning you now. I'm going to put spoilers in spoiler tags, but I can't promise everyone will do that, so, just consider yourself warned. Here are some great ones that come to mind:

The Shield series premiere

I don't think anything can top this one. Seeing the central hero cop MURDER an innocent cop for working with Internal Affairs has to be the most shocking thing I've ever seen in a show. Up until that point, the premiere was really good, but nothing we hadn't seen before on shows like NYPD Blue... but this sequence changed EVERYTHING and took the show to a whole other level.

I don't remember the name of the episode, but it was during Season 3... the one with the plane crash incident. First, we see Julia smother a burn victim we're led to believe is her mother, and then if THAT wasn't shocking enough... it turns out her mother was never actually on the plane and she killed some poor innocent person! That made my jaw hit the floor. And that was actually the first time I ever watched that show. Needless to say, since then, I've seen every episode.

Prison Break. I don't even have to name an episode here because EVERY episode leaves me racking my brain with how the heroes (or anti-heroes) are going to get out of their current situation. Although I will say that the season finale was a really awesome cliffhanger... maybe the best. This show is nothing short of amazing.

there are so many TV shows that get it right...and so many others that don't understand how to keep the audiences coming back...like Alias...it got too bizarre and they dragged on the same damn storyline for 4 seasons...I haven't seen season 5...but I imagine she finds out she is related to someonelse that plays an important role in the end of the world

Dexter's fouth season finale.

All of Supernatural's season finales except for season two(seasons one, three and four were more cliffhanger endings; season five was more of a shocker with Sam out of Lucifer's cage and watching Dean, Lisa and Ben).

The first and fourth season finales for Criminal Minds(season three's finale was kinda predictable).

And even though I am not a fan of the series, I will say that yes, LOST's third season finale was a shocker at its best. The show from the beginning of season four was just on all different levels of 'Holy Crap'.

And, I would like to say that my thoughts of endings are from shows that I watch, so excuse me if they're not up to anyone's standards, lol.

The X-Files always had great season finale or two part midseason episode cliffhangers, you hated seeing "To Be Continued".

24 had countless ones, coming back from the last commercial break you knew something was going to happen in the next 5-9 minutes that would be awesome.

Dexter's season 4 finale was just....wow. I was in disbelief for hours after watching it.

Weeds season 5 finale. DAMN.

Every episode of Prison Break.

24...nuff said.

And dare i say it, the GREATEST of them all............The Simpsons season 6 finale "Who shot Mr. Burns??" That had everybody talking for months.

Lost Season 3 finale and Dexter Season 4 finale were incredible. All of Alias' finales were awesome. Fringe has been doing some great cliffhangers. The Season 5 finale of 24 was amazingly shocking. The series finale to Roseanne still makes me feel like I got punched in the gut.

Breaking Bad season 3. Greatest ending to a season I think I've ever seen!

I can't wait to see the cliff hangers in The Walking Dead!!!!!

Lost had so many great cliffhangers... the Season 3 one was a shocker, obviously... I also thought the Season 5 cliffhanger with Juliet detonating the bomb was an eye popper. But honestly, that show had great cliffhangers in damn near every episode from about mid season 3 onward. Although I sort of missed out on the Lost Hype as it was happening and watched all of the later seasons over the past few months, I'm kind of glad that I did because I didn't have to wait a week or several months to see what happens next. Definitely a great show to watch continuously.
