Episode 14 - "Distractions" - Discussion Thread 2/5/07

AWESOME episode. Anyone know who Zach Taylor is? Is it Claire's Zach? Does he have a power?

Also have we met Hana yet?

Zane Taylor is the blond dude in the PROMO pics with Sylar...he prolly is a special on Mohinders list. Sylar will get to him first and prolly pretend to be him (wearing a Ramones t-shirt).

Im wondering if Peter will be able to use Sylar's abilities
He's absorbed them Im sure
But to recall the powers Peters needs to remember the user and since recalling Sylar would cause unknown consequences and possibly another coma he may not be able to use them

Peter doesnt have complete control of the powers yet thats why Claude punched him out
Remember Peter cries out "I'm losing control" or something along those lines before Claude hits him
BTW I loved that

And someone said Nathan, Claire, and Meredith are the first Heroes super family
Not so much
Nikki, DL, and Micah are the first super family

I love Issac's new paintings of the future and the destruction
Look so cool

It appears Claude isnt supposed to be alive right now
It seems pretty clear that Claude worked with HRG at some point
Probably one of the earlier heroes that he met
The people he taught were most likely there so like the Haitian and any other supers under HRG's control
Im wondering why HRG believed Claude was dead and if it was his decision

And I dont think its Matt that will die the writers have been pretty good so far and Matt's storyline hasnt done much so they wont kill him off without having him do something important unless his death is important
They wont just cut him off
Although really is there any hero who want in Peter's vision

I totally thought we were gonna meet Hana in this episode
I seriously believed that when Peter started hearing the buzzing right before Claude knocked him out that he was picking up Hana's ability and she was about to appear I was so disappointed

I love this show cant wait for Monday

I dont think they will kill Matt since the showed him being thrown out of the window on the preview and that wouldn't be much of a suprise

:wow: :wow: OMG I just watched the new episode and the ending was

Chronologically speaking, since Claire was born before Micah, they are the first heroes family... but since they're not really a family then I guess they're not. Depends on your perspective.

Yeah, I don't think Matt will die either, because he has a kid on the way. I don't think the writers would let his wife get pregnant just to have the dad drop dead a couple of days later. Literally.

Oh, and you know what would be interesting. If Matt lands in a wheelchair for the rest of his life. Hm, I wonder why that sounds so familiar. :D

Regarding episode 14, I liked it but in all honesty I expecting a bit moer HRG/Sylar interaction. Instead we got Sylar and the wife. Boy I gotta give props to Quinto for being so gosh darned creepy.

Hiro finally acted like an adult which I really liked. I hope that's not the last we see of his dad. And regarding the ending...

I bet those Claire/Peter shippers feel pretty awkward now. :D

Is it just me, or are Peter's powers way too strong? I mean, he's basically Sylar without the killing, which means he's likely to absorb way more powers by mere chance, whereas Sylar needed to hunt down these people.
Somehow I think it's setting things up for an imminent death for Peter.

Yes, he does seem a bit of an uber-character right now but he wouldn't be that powerful if say he can only use one power at a time a la Ultra Boy from Legion of Superheroes. Seems to me whenever he tries to use more than one power he shortcircuits.

Killing Peter would be a bit of a shock, but it certainly wouldn't put me off from watching the show.

By "First Hero Family", he means "First Family" just like the Bushes right now are the "First Family".

Y'know...Nathan running for office and all...

It makes me wonder on peters storing capabilitiy if he was able to get some of Future Hiro's power. Yet, being it looks like he has to grasp there power in some type of demonstration, use it around them in order to retain it.

Yeah, I too believe he is a far uber character, yet if he doesn't get control of his power though, another run in with Sylar could really mess him up since he was the one that put him in a coma with his 'unstable' powers.

I can't wait to see what the future holds for Sylar and Peter, should be quite interesting.

This episode has the right mix of exposition, action, revelations and new clues.

Sylar only has one power.

matt needs do die and die quickly...I'm sick of him..spineless bastard

What are you talking about? Spineless? He went after HRG! He went up against Sylar! Daredevil he ain't but you can't call him a coward just because his power is not as offensive and cool as the others.

if you're going to play that game, then technically the Petrelli's are the first heroes family.

Like I said. Depends on your perspective. :)

Chronologically, it's pretty clear. I was saying it depends on what "family of heroes" means to you. :D

Sylar only has one power.

I'm not really sure how you can still say that after seeing his origin.

This is how I understand it:

Sylar's original power is the power to understand how things work--hence the watchmaking.

When Sylar met the telekenisis dude, he killed him, and with a single glance at his brain, he could see how to use that particular power.

Think of it this way, we only use 10% of our brainpower. If one person was to use all 100% of their brain, they would know how to do ALL of these powers. It's like knowing how to wiggle your ears...anyone has the brainpower to do it, it's just that not everyone knows how to, and it's not something that you can explain to someone how to do.

Matt just happens to know how to use the read-other-peoples-minds part of his brain.

Nathan just happens to know how to use the flying part of his brain.

And so on, and so on.

So our friend Sylar, who wants more than anything to be powerful, has discovered that if he looks at the brain of someone who's unlocked a certain part of it to know how to do something "special", he can then see how that works, and then emmulate it himself.

Looking at the telekenisis guy's brain taught Sylar how to do the same. And now he's on the hunt of every other "special" person out there, so that he can "learn" those powers, too.

Which is why it's so important for him to find Claire, above all others. If he can figure out how to be invincible...well...he'd be invincible in the remainder of his quest for power. I mean, why else would he be so focused on finding her?

Of course I could be understanding that incorrectly...but that's how I understand it, nonetheless.

I couldn't make out his real name. When I zoomed in, I could only make out the middle name on his signature above his picture. I believe it says Hughes.

damn, I can't quite make it either

Yeah. That's the clearest I could get it. If I zoomed in, it obviously gets fuzzy. That's the best I could do.

Here's how Texas' licenses are designed:

That's not his signature in the top-right corner. I believe that's the Governor's signature.

Bennet's signature is under his thumb, and it only says "Bennet".

Lol they really AREN'T going to tell us his name! :-P

Well thank you for clearing that up. you obviously have done your research, unlike me.

I'm not really sure how you can still say that after seeing his origin.

This is how I understand it:

Sylar's original power is the power to understand how things work--hence the watchmaking.
that is his sole power: to see how things work. Peter only has one power as well: he's an empath. he doesn't have the power of flight, but he is able to fly through the use of his ability. he doesn't have the power to heal, but he is able to heal through the use of his ability. i know it may be splitting hairs, but i think it's appropriate and accurate.
