‘Big’ Series In Works At Fox With ‘Enlisted’s Kevin Biegel & Mike Royce
by Nellie Andreeva

Big, the hugely popular 1988 comedy feature starring Tom Hanks, is getting a series remake at Fox. The network has put in development Big, a half-hour comedy from 20th Century Fox Television, whose movie division produced the Penny Marshall film written by Gary Ross and Anne Spielberg. Written and executive produced by Kevin Biegel and Mike Royce, the series would be loosely based on the movie and would explore what it means to be an adult, what it means to be a kid, and how in today’s world those two things are more confused than ever.

Biegel most recently created and with Royce executive produced cult comedy Enlisted for Fox and 20th TV. Prior to that, Biegel co-created Cougar Town and Royce was the co-creator/executive producer of Men of A Certain Age and the executive producer/showrunner on HBO’s Luckie Louie and NBC’s 1600 Penn. Biegel and Royce are repped by UTA and Morris Yorn.

There is a sense of nostalgia among broadcast executives with several 1980s movie comedies getting series treatment this development season. NBC has Real Genius, based on the 1985 film starring Val Kilmer, as well as Problem Child, based on the film that came out in 1990. Additionally, Fox is remaking cult 1981 sci-fi dramedy Greatest American Hero. Here is the trailer for Big, which made Hanks a global superstar and earned him an Oscar nomination:
Loved Enlisted. Find the right star, and this can be gold.

I'm actually surprised that in the 26 years since the movie came out, this hasn't happened already. The concept is actually great for a TV series as well.
