The Dark Knight Biggest Disappointment

and speaking of Brian Douglass... anyone wonder how Joker got a hold of him????
They don't need to spoon feed the audience and explain everything.

One thing that really irked me watching this movie, was the sonar/boat scene. The first hour and a half of this movie presented itself as a gritty, realistic, dark, tragic story. And then at the end - the sonar and boat scene - completely violated the terms of the story telling. First of all, this is The Dark Knight, isn't it? So why does it have a goodie/fairy tale ending that i found completely implausible: The goody good citizens and criminals don't blow each other up because they LOVE each other SO SO MUCH...OOOH I'm so warm and fuzzy right now! YAY! HEE HEE! And the sonar looked ridiculous - like a cartoon. And, i'm sorry Two-Face looked more like he belonged in a video game as well. I don't understand, they alter the Joker to fit the Nolan Bat world, but with two-face they make him look just like he does in the cartoon and comic books. WTF?????? Couldn't they have done two-face a little more realistic??? That little piece of skin on the bottom of his left mouth, flapping up and down when he talked looked completely CGI-ified and cartoon like. Can't Nolan and co. take a note from BTAS. In BTAS they have a full 30 minute story that is more a crime drama/detective/thriller, and it's consistent throughout. I just wish Nolan would keep the dark story telling going til the end, instead of introducing the major CGI action third act.

TDK had a "goodie/fairy tale ending"?

Okay.

"Bullocks"? Are you some lame American guy trying to use English slang (and failing)?

I thought he was trying to make a funny out of the batman characters name. but I was still confused:huh:

I am not American, nor English. That probably explains it. Hahaha!

By the way, why do people hate the bat-sonar? Not only is it relevant to bats (they have sonar) but it was also nice to look at. Its use was limited as well so it didnt tire us.

This isnt really a disappointment but--
I though it was kinda ironic that a guy with the nick name "Harvey Two-Face" gets burnt on one side of the face, AND his dubble sided coin gets tore up on one side, at a place located at 2 5052street [2 50/50 second street]
Damn. what are the odds.
"Either you die a hero or live long enough to become a villain." What are the odds that he also becomes the villain shortly after that Shakespearian quote?

Let's not forget all the thugs he shot & blew up in the first movie, & the fact that he announced his intention to kill the Joker.
You know what, I'm just going to say they were rubber bullets, notice there was no blood or dead bodies. And how often do we say we're going to kill someone and actually mean it?

Based on what I am reading here, I'd pretty much conclude that TDK was a disappointment. I for one, was disappointed the second I left the theater.

The falls of Rome and Constantinople, the great fire of London as well as the financial depression that hit Gotham was the league's doing. Bruce should ask him about 9/11!

He did but that part was censored.

:whatever:

because we saw that effect used better in Daredevil.

"A goodie/fairy tale ending"? What movie were you watching? Did you sneak into Mamma Mia by mistake? It certainly wasn't TDK if you think it had a fairy tale ending. At the end of this movie, the love of Batman's life is dead, the Joker is caught but has essentially "won" by proving his point (through Harvey), Batman's biggest ally on the war on crime was corrupted and now lies dead at his feet, and on top of that, Bats has the police chasing him for murders he didn't commit.
The goody good citizens and criminals don't blow each other up because they LOVE each other SO SO MUCH...OOOH I'm so warm and fuzzy right now! YAY! HEE HEE!
Childish oversimplification that ignores all the facts. The "innocent" civilians were trash talking the prisoners the whole time and voted in favor of blowing them up. The only thing that saved the prisoners was that the guy who was going to blow them up ultimately didn't have the guts to push the button when it came down to it. The prisoners were close to rioting, hence why the guards were threatening to shoot them. Like the prisoner who threw the detonator out the window said, "These men will kill you and take it anyway." There was no "love" about it from either side. When the guards on the prisoners' boat let the large prisoner have the detonator, they were expecting him to blow up the other boat and they didn't care, because it would save their own hides without them having to personally take the blame.
And the sonar looked ridiculous - like a cartoon.
Guess you've been watching some fancy cartoons. Although I think the sonar scene could have been handled better, I've never seen any cartoons that look anything like that.

That you're actually complaining about Two-Face's appearance being comic book accurate says a lot, IMO. :o I would rather have the Two-Face I know and love from TLH than this...

From the Phantom of the Opera. The man depicted here is supposed to be so hideous that people can't stand to look at him and even pay to see him in a freak show. Instead, it just looks like Gerard Butler with a weird eye and a bad sunburn on one side of his face. Embarrassing. And yet, this is what some people wanted Two-Face to look like.

TDK was all of these.

The dark story was kept throughout the entire film, everywhere except for in your mind, where for some reason you saw the prisoners and the civilians getting together and singing kumbaya and summoning Captain Planet and the care bears to join in their song about how much they loved each other so they're not going to blow up each other's boats.
Based on what I am reading here, I'd pretty much conclude that TDK was a disappointment. I for one, was disappointed the second I left the theater.
If you go to a "disappointments" thread, you're bound to find criticisms/nitpicking/bashing, no matter what movie the thread is for. Nearly 90% of Batman fans on these boards gave the movie either a 9 or a 10. Considering how fickle fanboys can be, that is an amazing accomplishment. I never thought I'd see a Batman movie where that percentage of fans approved of it so overwhelmingly.

Yes but Daredevil could only sense around him. Batman could see everywhere as long as there was a mobile phone there. It was supposed to be different. So i dont think that that's it.
Its probably that they didnt want it at all.

I'm glad Bat-mite got there before me, what was Harrygucha talking about?!?! LOL.

I know people have different opinions, thats what makes the boards so great. But to actually criticize the film when you clearly don't understand whats going on is really quite annoying. How can anyone think that TDK had a happy ending? Yea i do think the boat scene would of been better if one of the boats blew up, but there was a message behind the way it turned out. And if you don't get that message you must be a idiot.

As for the Bat-sonar? I think it was great, this is still a comic book movie even though it does go beyond that. I don't know how many times i've said this but it is still a FANTASY film!!!! It's just set in a realistic world. Same with Two-Face, how else is he supposed to look?

I agree with you Ace!

I'm not a Batman fan or fanboy, but I absolutely loved Batman Begins. However, I was very much disappointed with the follow-up and I have a lot of reasons. I wouldn't give it a 9 or 10 because of those reasons. I wouldn't rate it at all because I felt one viewing is enough. I didn't even sneak into it again after I saw another movie, which I sometimes do.

Night Vision would have worked and been realistic

The sonar was able to see through walls and entire floors, which is what Batman needed it to do. Night vision can't do that.

As a fellow hyper and Batman fan (in your case, Begins fan), I encourage you to see it again. If you absolutely loved Begins, I think you owe it to yourself to see TDK again. I've said this to a couple guys I knew who were expecting some stuff, and came out feeling meh, and then after viewing it the second time, they totally loved it. Personally, I couldn't even grasp it all after the first viewing, and had a somewhat blank feeling after watching it, but the second viewing completely changed that. Obviously, in my case, it had to do with a combo of expecting so much with not knowing exactly what to expect with super hyped anticipation.

Just some friendly thoughts. :)

That was exactly my feelings too. The people I saw it with were like, "OMG it was so amazing!" and I was just    Like, stupefied. I only started to grasp it after a few days of letting it stew in my head and then seeing it again.

I agree. Although I enjoyed the movie on the first viewing, there was a LOT of stuff in there that confused me, or I just missed. Like I wasn't paying that much attention to the dialogue between Gordon and Dent early on in the film, so I was very confused as to why Harvey was so angry at Gordon. Also, I didn't notice that the driver of the SWAT van was masked, or that the SWAT van stopped when the truck flipped, so I was like "WTF!?" when Gordon seemed to just appear out of nowhere. I definitely got a lot more out of the film the second time I saw it than I did the first, and even more on the third. There are some parts of it that really need to be able to sink in.

Blade Runner was the same way for me. I sat down and watched that one expecting it to be a sci-fi movie akin to Star Wars, Star Trek, or Terminator. When it turned out to be absolutely nothing like any of those, not only was I confused, but I disliked the movie intensely. Upon repeat viewings, however, I was able to recognize the true theme of the movie and a LOT of story elements that I missed out on the first time, and I actually find it to be a better film than any of those previously mentioned franchises could ever hope to be.

ya, some things confused me, but than i when to the batboards. I'm still waiting for the dvd b4 i see it a second time, tho.

that looked completely normal to me at 1st
Haha. Not surprising. It's actually a pretty amusing movie (unintentionally, of course), since they spend the whole film hyping up how deformed the guy is. I remember when I first saw it, I was expecting his face to be all gruesome and then he pulled his mask off and revealed that. I kind of tilted my head to the side and went, "Huh. That's what these people are acting all disgusted about? They sure are shallow!"

I agree, I remember watching Blade Runner when I was little and thinking "man this is so boring" "why won't batty kill him?" "Why can't she afford a real snake?" "why do they ask questions to find a replicate" When I watch it now, it just seems so powerful and simply amazing.
