The Dark Knight Biggest Disappointment

LOL....yes! That was the only moment in the whole movie that reminded me of some of the bad humor in "Begins." It was WAY out of place and the only time in the whole film where I rolled my eyes. Oh well.....

No disappointments.

The only thing that ever-so-slightly annoyed me?

That cop riding shotgun with Gordon during the Semi-attack.

"I didnt sign up for this!"
"Thats not good...okay thats really not good!"

...The HELL was that?

Other than that....everything else was perfect. I had no problem with the lack of laughter - it just made it all the more sinister when he DID.

Also, the batpod owns the tumbler. Honestly. Screw the batmobile. The batpod can turn on walls.

LOL! I-T-B, you should win an award for the most random avatar and signature ever. Mrs Whistler from Diamonds are Forever?

I love it :hehe:

I recently re-watched Diamonds Are Forever and felt a connection to Mrs. Whistler that I hadn't felt before. It was then that I knew I needed to honor her fine role in this classic of American cinema, so my Hype identity is a shrine to her.

The biggest disappointment is the overhype that caused several of my friends to be disappointed. The movie is good. No doubt it's good. But the manic "omg omg omg best movie evah" support caused people going into it expecting the Godfather and feeling underwhelmed when they got a solid sequel to Batman Begins. The Dark Knight was really good... but a lot of my friends went expecting a masterpiece and were kinda let down.

Universally accepted that Ledger's Joker was spot on. But Batman... there wasn't a heck of a lot there. I just didn't feel that much excitement around Batman. I don't know what it was, but I think the character was a lot more interesting when he was learning the ropes from Ra's Al Ghul and developing his persona. In this one... there really seemed like something was lacking.

And of course most people I talked to were turned off by the voice. I get the reason for the voice, but at this point it almost seems like he'd be better off just using a voice modulator and sounding like Stephen Hawkins than talking the way he talks.

Loved the movie by the way. But since seeing it I've told anyone who hasnt' yet see it, "Try to forget about the hype and any review you've read. Just go into it expecting a solid sequel... temper your excitement. You'll be better off"

It lacked the cinematography and probing into Bruce's psyche (him sitting in front of the windows is one of the very few shots), and there was like no epilogue at the end. Even though Gordon's speech was *phenomenal*, I still would've like to hear Alfred and Bruce discuss their next moves, or perhaps a "hook" like the Joker card between Batman and Gordon.

In addition there was no shown funeral for Rachel, just Batman standing on rubble for ten seconds (which was a great shot nonetheless). But hitting back on cinematography, this film has so little. The sweeping shots of the mountains and Gotham in Begins was also used to flesh out the epic soundtrack, which I had trouble picking up actually. I didn't even notice Joker had a theme (even though I'd heard it beforehand).

Overall it seems like they went for punch-to-punch-to-punch storyline as opposed to building the characters up in the first 3/4 and then unleashing all the punches in the last one, like Begins. I'm going to wait a whole month before I make my final opinion up, though, because it took me two years to fully appreciate Begins.

There was an epilogue. Gordon's speech and look into future was just that.

As to the cinematography I have to disagree. Shots like Bruce on the building, the truck flip, the money pile on fire, etc. are all epic. It was like this film was the other side of Leone. This was the film where the grand and vast landscapes are the character's themselves. So many close ups of the four main characters faces. It was a story of men this time around.

I was really surprised at the voice Murphy used as the Scarecrow. I even wondered if they had a different actor. It didnt have the deep, menacing tone that it had in Begins. True, no one was under the influence of the fear toxin. Its a minor complaint.

It's a minor complaint but a very valid one. I thought the exact same thing. "I thought they got Murphy back as Scarecrow but that sure as hell doesen't sound like him." That whole sequence was one of my least favorite parts of the film. It wasn't horrible but compared to the rest of the movie it seemed a little weak.

more laughter, and i felt he needed more screen time, and the editing sucked, the takes from the trailers were better in my opinion, very few problems but i loved the hell out of this movie

You hit it right on!!! I feel exactly the same. Not enough Joker and the best takes were not in the movie. Also, the editing felt very strange. I don't understand this too much, but I hope we get an uncut version on dvd. I feel like the best stuff we got was in the trailers. Still can't figure out why they cut the scene of the Joker walking down the street and pulling out the knife.....in fact, that whole sequence felt rushed as did many scenes in the movie.

I feel the exact opposite way. Everything he said in the trailers, to me, was his least impactful material in the film.

I didn't have the time to really reflect on that line when he delivered it, but it's so sad in retrospect. Damn.

I swear, I honestly didn't think too much about Heath once the movie got going, he was that good in the role. But as soon as he said that, for the first time, I was taken completely out of the movie.....thinking about what could've been

biggest disappointment = Two-Face's five minute crimewave... and then he DIED?!

I get a sneaky impression he'll be back.Im just curious on how they do it so it doesn't seem hokey

Definitely one of my few gripes. It wasn't Venom-bad as far as his arc is concerned, but the actual villain of Two-Face deserves his own movie

To the OP, I thought The Joker's laugh was fine, and I thought they used it just enough. It would've been worse to use it too much than too little. As far as my biggest disappointment(s), it would have to be some of the outlandish technology Batman uses (especially towards the end of the film), and the fact that Two Face apparently dies.

I AGREE!! That whole sonar crap was too over the top for me. Thats my only grip. They could have EASILY done something more believable. A little too "CSI: Miami" for me.

This isn't a disappointment, but a complaint or a question of some sort........

What the hell was up with the Mayor and wearing eyeliner?????????????????????

Breaking the bat-signal (because I'm nostalgic of the good ol' comics) & the outcome of Two-Face (wtf happened!?)

Why do people continue to call him a villain? He was the more extreme version of the vigilante Batman was.

Also what more can we learn from Two-Face then we did in this film? Every last bit of the characters soul was bared. Whatever came after would be cheap. He is suddenly just another common villain.

I wish we got more into Bruce's psychie like in Batman Begins, had more Alfred and there was one or two more rooftop meetings between Batman, Harvey and Gordon.

AND ALL OF THOSE ARE NITPICKS. Really that is what this thread is for. This movie is the closest to perfection a superhero movie has gotten.

My only disappointment is Heath not getting the chance to play that character again. The

Two Face thing doesn't bother me at all since it was a great story arc, and this isn't the comics continuity, they have less time to tell the story.

Because he is a villain, just a tragic one, not pure evil for no reason like the Joker. Two-Face represents Gotham more than Batman, he is the embodiment of everything the Joker stood for, that one bad day can turn almost anyone corrupt and mad.

That being said, he does deserve his own movie, why doesn't he? Besides Joker, he's probably the most interesting villain in Batman's rogues gallery. He just hopped out the hospital bed and starting killing people for a few minutes, then he was dead? They could've went the "Dark Victory" route and had him fighting for the control of Gotham's underworld, or maybe once the people find out what really happened to him, how would that play out? They could've done alot more things with him.

Batman's voice.

That is honestly my biggest disappointment. That gives alot of credit to the film's quality.

Bale's voice didn't fit in some scenes... like at the end.

Same here. This was my only complaint.
