The Dark Knight Biggest Disappointment

Then again... the take which Nolan used was a close-up and as a result even more intense.

We were really in Heath face, with the blade obscuring some of the shot. Perhaps it was that intimacy that made it such a 'holy ****' moment.

I noticed the different takes from trailer to film as well!

That was weird

i thought somethin was fishy about a few scenes when i watcched it

but twoface dyeing was pretty darn disappointing 2.

I actually thought it was a neat idea, to mostly use other takes for the trailers. So even if we had seen the trailers a gazillion times (as I'm sure we all did :cwink: ), seeing the actual film would be a completely new experience.

That was the first thing I wanted to tell people after the Kickingandscreening event, "Guys, even if you've seen the trailers and all the footage...you ain't seen nothing yet!" :hehe:

Ive been thinking alot lately and I noticed that Batman did not use any batarangs. I suppose I was a little let down by that. He didnt use them much either in Batman Begins from what I can remember.

Yeah imo, it was a big letdown. :csad:

I was thinking the exact same thing the other day. Lets be honest here, using batarangs to hit your opponent's hand so that they drop their guns isnt really realistic. Especially when those batarangs are as small as Nolan's. I like their design, but honestly, i cant see how Bat-bale could use them. In any case, he should have used some.

Furthermore, the firing scallops on the gauntlets werent so good either. They were mostly a gimmick. It would be impossible to fire those things the way they are positioned. You would have to bend your arm and hope they hit the target, better yet, they dont take an eyeball out! That's why Nolan conviniently used them from such a short distance. But hey....they werent so bad... Its just that he can only use them in a serious manner like he already did, so he wont repeat it.

Anyway, i'd like to see those batarangs enlanged a bit so that bat-bale can use them realistically in the third film. They dont seem like they can break a lightbulb to me.

in BB he only used them to aid his theatrics, like throwing them at the lights. i think they could of made Batman a bit more ninja like, his fighting style wasn't brilliant IMO. I always think of batarangs as shuruken

I agree, that's how I saw them and I liked all the ninja referencing; he seems less into the theatricality and deception in TDK, possibly because there has been such strong reaction *against* Batman, also because he thinks he's mostly inspired these sad imitators in hockey pads. Maybe he's decided his gear has to be more purely functional and pragmatic in design.

I think that he was just as theatrical in TDK. Its just that Nolan didnt want to bore us by showing us the same thing. Instead of batman making noises around the goons to scare them, he throws the batmobile at them (whose tyres they conviniently fail to shoot). There are more examples of his theatricality in TDK, but the important thing is that people now know that he is a man in a mask. Nolan went to the other side, when there could have been a middle ground. From "can he really fly", "i heard he can disappear", he went to "they know your act, you got rules, take off your mask", etc.

I mean, come on, people should still **** their pants when they see him, even if we go "duh...its a halloween costume". I remember in the animated series, when Bruce first donnes the cowl, Alfred is stunned and scared to death! Batman should always be scary, even when he is in his underpants! :hehe:

Anyone else getting really anoyed with all the reaslistic crap? AHHHH!:bh:

I'd like to think that a Wayne Enterprises combat vehicle specifically built for the army would have tires that could withstand some gunfire from some pistols and a couple of TMPs. LOL :woot:

See, I thought of this as well at a point, but then I thought of the Joker, which makes me love Maroni's line just so perfect. "You've got rules. The Joker's got no rules. No one's gonna cross him for you." Just shows how not only the Joker is impacting the people of Gotham, but the criminals and their perception of Batman. The Joker literally rises into a person that is feared more than Batman in the criminal underworld (more or less). "No one's gonna cross him for you." The Joker is building himself up, while at the same time lowering the level of Batman - he's winning the battle and the war. I really enjoyed how that played out.

I agree with most of what you said but Im confused as to why you said throwing a batarang at someone to disarm them would be unrealistic. How is that "unrealistic" exactly?

I think he is talking about having it function as a boomerang

its watchable, theres good performances from Heath and Mark Addy. but the story is just absurd.

I can put up with absurd. In a certain mood (usually Friday night when I'm still brain dead from work) I quite like junk like Stigmata if I like the people in it (and the plot of that seemed only marginally less absurd than the plot of this). I'd have to pay $4 to rent it so might get it out of the bin; it's not exactly flying out. Thanks for the reply.

I must ask, though: do the "sins" really look like soggy noodles?

Oh I see. Well he didnt state that so I assumed otherwise. The batarangs dont really function as a "Boomerang" anyway. Ive seen it just as a weapon just to disarm the opponent (like a shuruken).
