So, as per the thread I made about Liefeld's huge ripoff of the Hulk, "Smash", I've decided to write a "top 10 biggest ripoff characters" for the comic site I occasionally write for.

What characters would you guys put on such a list?

Hawkeye can be viewed as derivative of Green Arrow; Rocket Red can be seen as derived from Iron Man; the Guardian is viewed in some circles as derivative of Captain America, since he was created by the same team.

Batman and Zorro. :p Except for the car and bat theme they're pretty much identical.

Moon Knight = Batman
Thanos = Darksied
Sentry = Superman
Ka-zar = Tarzan
Deadpool = Deathstroke

Most popular Marvel characters are reasonably original though.

ok i am game but remember Ran you asked!:woot: so dont get mad!
1)Sentry- ( well you asked!)a big Sucky %^& Superman rip!
and are we talking all or just marvel:huh:
2)Vigilante( the 80's version!) - a sucky sorry Punisher wannabe
3)Ripclaw- a sucky wolverine rip!
4) Scourge- Sorry ass Punisher rip
5) Imperial guard- a cool ass Legion of Superheroes rip
6) The Squadron Supreme- a sometimes cool sometimes lame JLA Rip
7)U-foes- a sometimes cool sometimes lame FF rip
8)Shadow Hawk - a sorry batman/ daredevil you name it street level guy rip
9)Lady Deathstrike -a sorry wolverine rip
10)Wildchild- a sorry wolverine rip

honorable mention to the Ultimates cause they are more sorry than the originals!

99% of anything Leifeld has helped create.

Apparently the X-Men were based off the Doom Patrol
Cobra (GI Joe) might have been off of Hydra

That's not even a maybe Kev. Larry Hama basically reworked his material for a new SHIELD book in the early 80's to the needs of Hasbro and Marvel.

I think Sentry was actually a bigger rip off of MiracleMan than Superman.

We all agree that the Sentry was Leifeld proportions of terrible. Right Havoc?

Wasn't MiracleMan a rip off of Captain Marvel?

Everybody was a rip off of everybody else.

Remember the Simpsons episode The Day the Violence Died?
Roger Meyers Jr.: Okay, maybe my dad did steal Itchy. So what? Animation is built on plagiarism. If it weren't for someone plagiarizing the Honeymooners we wouldn't have the Flintstones. If someone hadn't ripped off Sergeant Bilko, there'd be no Top Cat. Huckleberry Hound, Chief Wiggum, Yogi Bear? Hah! Andy Griffith, Edward G. Robinson, Art Carney. Your honor, you take away our right to steal ideas, where are they gonna come from?

I had to look up Smash to find out he originated in a book with "Fighting Amercian"...a Loeb/Liefeld copy of Captain America, so you just gotta do him, too.

The Alan Moore version of MiracleMan was a deconstruction of the whole thing but the original version was just one of many supermen wannabes. I love the MiracleMan series though. Also, it's MARVELMAN!

:cmad:

The Sentry was amazing!

Anyways, let me clarify, I'm thinking it has to be characters that don't have a really distinctive difference because otherwise there will just be too many options.
So I wouldn't include Shazam as a ripoff of Superman because he has some big distinctives. But I would include pre-Alan Moore Marvel Man because he really was just Shazam with a different name.

I wouldn't call Sentry a rip off of Superman. Gladiator or Hyperion are closer to "expys" really.

I wouldn't call Deadpool a rip off of Deathstroke either. Deadpool is more like an intentional parody of those bad ass grim dark ninja assassin types.

hmmm anybody walking around with a big ass " S" or the 1st letter of their name emblazoned across their chest i would classify a a superman rip. sure you will get the nuisances like afraid of crowds or with the power of 1,000,000 suns ( what the....???? never mind!) but they were based off the man of steel template
and
what the hell is that bucky rip off chick holding?!? that cant be any gun i know of!! it looks like something you would buy in the place with DVDs and coin operated booths at 2 in the morning( not that i know about such things!)

Iron Man
Ordinary Human with no super powers.
Uses his intellect and vast resources to fund his superhero lifestyle.
Has an English butler.

Batman...........

Osborn's Thunderbolts are Suicide Squad wannabes

Im surprised no one mentioned these two

tumblr_kwrphyR2g41qzjdus

Who is the actual rip off between those two?
