Bioshock Infinite

I picked up the first game due to the big MS sale. It wasn't bad but I don't really have an interest in getting the second. I've read a bit about the second and it takes place awhile after the first. Rapture seemed to be about a week from collapsing upon itself, how the heck does it last any more than that?

Bioshock 2 was a cashgrab by 2K and the get who was in charge of Bioshock 1 wasn't consulted. It wasnt a very good game

So does anyone have any theories as to the origin of Columbia?

I'm thinking that while it does take place in 1912, a lot of these people inhabiting the city are from the future and that's why Elizabeth is being held captive so they can manipulate her time powers and create their own little Utopia.

Well IGN gave it a 9.4/10 though I never really care for IGN, just an interesting read. Though I figured Bioshock would be great, Ken is a great designer.

well that's not a good sign, IGN tends to be awful at rating things.

Nah it's not a bad sign at all. IGN is not the best, but it's Bioshock and Ken Levine, I will bet most of the other reviews will be just the same. I have no doubts of that.

Reading the review only one thing kinda irked me. You have to play through the game on any difficulty first to unlock 1999 mode. I was hoping to play 1999 mode as my first play through.

I completely disagree. In some ways it was better than the original. It had way better gameplay and what I thought to be a more compelling set of characters as well as a finale. While the first one had better atmosphere and overall story to it.

BioShock Infinite cost $200 million to produce and market

According to a New York Times article citing unnamed analysts, BioShock Infinite may have cost its parent company Take-Two Interactive $100 million to develop, with a further $100 million spent to promote and market the game to the public.

BioShock Infinite is the third instalment in the series and has been in development at Irrational Games for four years, with a 200 person team working on the project. The game follows on from 2007's BioShock, and 2010's BioShock 2.

The cost of developing games has risen across the board in recent years. Last month, using a "hypothetical profitability model", Sterne Agee analyst Arvind Bhatia predicted that Grand Theft Auto V’s creation may cost in excess of $137.5 million based on a 250-person team during a five-year development period. An additional $69 million to $109.3 million is expected to be spent in marketing costs to raise awareness for the game.

By comparison, during its six years of production--across four continents and through the hands of more than 800 developers--2011's Star Wars: The Old Republic reportedly cost publisher EA $200 million dollars in development costs alone.

Impressive, too. Because you'd think that kind of money wouldn't be used for a game that wasn't Call of Duty.

I'm honestly hopeful about the industry when I read something like that. It means there are companies willing to put down a bet on a game like Bioshock, and not just a proven cash cow.

They've been promoting the damn thing enough, it better be.
