Bioshock Infinite

Yikes I highly disagree. I thought that Not only is Infinite the best thing Levine has ever done, its easily the best game of the year and one of the best of the generation.

As a personal preference SS2 might be what he considers his favorite but from this generation considering all the awards and high praise from everyone this is the highpoint of his career.

I had to play through the game a few times before I caught everything, even then I might be missing some in jokes or references.

I don't usually like the arena fight dlcs in any game but this one is actually a lot of fun and I play it a good amount.

Also, give this a watch. I think you'll like it.

So I'm sure this situation has happened countless times in this thread:

I've finished this phenomenal game and am thinking of purchasing the Season Pass.

Can I get a summary of feelings on its worth?

I thought it was well worth it. I hadn't planned to get play the arena battles at all and just got it for the Story DLCs but the Arena is surprisingly fun and has fun challenges to accomplish to unlock bonus art and such. The story DLC pt.1 is $15 and pt.2 is the same and the Pass is $20, it includes both dlcs, the arena and some bonuses for the main game. I have no regrets buying it.

The Story is fantastic taking place in Rapture from the first game before everything went to crap and it is beautiful there. There's no fighting for the first half of the dlc and it's very well done.

Did you play the Last of Us? IMHO that is the game of the year and Generation. BSI..IMHO, is several steps back from the original BioShock.

Like I said in the "Last game you played" thread, I'm playing Bioshock Infinite (trying to, anyway) and I'm not at all impressed with it. The gameplay is bad and the story is meh. It has good art design, but the texture work is truly horrendous. I'll keep poking at it, but it's really not doing anything for me at all so far.

Ok. So I'm *not* alone.

I was not impressed by Infinite either, even after I finished it. But what did raise points for it with me was the story, especially after watching some spoilercast to clear up some of the confusion. In that sense, its a very smart and well written game. But as a game, I didn't particularly enjoy myself or the experience. Definitely not in the same way that I enjoyed games like Tomb Raider, which was a good game with a lousy story, or my GOTY pick, The Last of Us, which was a great blend of story and gameplay.

I loved the story but the game fighting was annoying and not fun. I won't play it again :(

For the record, I didn't like the first Bioshock very much either.

System Shock 2 I think is probably going to end up as the high point in Ken Levine's career.

Agreed. SS2 was one of the greatest games of all time. I still wish for SS3. The story left such a cliff hanger. That is a series I've been begging for a comeback. But if they did, I hope they would keep with it's complex RPG genre, and go the route of Bioshock. Though I love Bioshock, SS2 was an entirely different beast.

Having said that Bioshock Infinite was a superb game, but I wish Ken would go back to the SS2 style gameplay.

hmm some of the stuff being said is some of I heard said from Vic and scott of EpD.TV/ROTR in their review of it. They did say it's still a fun game but they did say alot of the same words from what's being said here about it and other discussions on it. .

I myself enjoyed though. But I understand some of the complaints.

Ok moving on

For a second there I thought it was Jack. :p

Looks interesting. Glad I bought the pass.

Having just watched that video all I have to ask is:

What the hellllllll is [blackout]Booker[/blackout] doing there.

Not a clue but it might be one of those 'only you can see me' things Doctor Who loves to do.

I hope they do a PS4/X1 version of this with all the DLC.

Coming on March 25

Daisy Fitzroy? What? Neat.

I already bought the Season Pass and I'm very glad I did.

It is my favorite game, so I am right there with you.

I'm playing this game after getting it through Playstation Plus. I'm really enjoying the story, but the actual gameplay is kind of weak and is dragging the game down, imo. Thankfully I've always been more of a plot guy.

Once you get used to it the fighting gets better but not by a whole lot. It's great just to toy with the enemies though. I always enjoy the shock jockey shotgun combo.

The story gets really crazy by the end. Enjoy.

the article where they talked about Daisy Fitzroy and others coming back has been updated with a video comment's from Ken Levine and the voice actors of the game.

NEWS

IRRATIONAL GAMES IS SHUTTING DOWN

They've laid off all but 15 people.

Irrational-Games.jpg

Bad news. Irrational Games, the studio behind System Shock 2, the original BioShock, and the recent BioShock Infinite, is shutting down.
Studio co-founder Ken Levine made the announcement on the official Irrational Games website, saying that they’ve already laid off all but 15 employees. Although he didn’t actually use the words “shutting down”, he says that this is the “winding down [of] Irrational Games as you know it.” He plans to a transition to a new “entrepreneurial endeavor” where he’ll make smaller games with a smaller team, but it’s unclear if they’ll continue to use the Irrational Games name. The news comes just as the team is finishing the last batch of DLC for BioShock Infinite, Burial at Sea: Episode 2, which surfaces on March 25.
Irrational Games was founded in 1997, and their first project was the hit RPG System Shock 2, which hit the PC in 1999. The studio was purchased by publisher 2K Games in 2006, and briefly changed its name to 2K Boston for the release of the first BioShock in 2007.
As for what’s next with the new and much smaller team, Ken Levine says he plans to “make narrative-driven games for the core gamer that are highly replayable. To foster the most direct relationship with our fans possible, we will focus exclusively on content delivered digitally.” This sounds like he’s going to be making mobile games. Levine is also returning to Hollywood to start writing movies, which is where got his start before heading to the games industry.

Uh, ok. That's kinda out of the blue.

Completely out of nowhere. It seems like 2K Games just doesn't believe Irrational can exist without Levine. Atleast, it seems like that's the case if Levine wanted to go do something else and they just dissolved Irrational.

It is pretty crazy to this happen after the critical and commercial success they've had.
