Bioshock Infinite

Some new footage from the VGA, Booker meets Elizabeth and some skyhook combat with the Vox Populi(?):

The sign at 1:27 says "Caution: Proceed Only If Specimen Is Properly Sedated."

I'm really excited and slightly terrified by [blackout]how agile that Handyman is. I'm not looking forward to him climbing onto the skylane like a damn set of monkey bars.[/blackout]

Nice that they're willing to make alternate cover art to use, but I picked up the original Bioshock--not knowing anything about it except that it was well received--with THIS cover:

bioshock-cover.jpg

Which is pretty damn vague if you don't have prior knowledge about who/what that is. Guy in armor a la Master Chief or Isaac Clarke? Robot? Some weird alien? What's with the little girl?

But it still piques the interest, effectively conveying the tone, two important staples of the game, and manages not to look too cliched or boring. Infinite just has a guy with a gun and a burning flag--that could be the sequel to Homefront for all I know.

I told you Levine didn't really want that ****.

That gameplay video was intense. I cannot wait to get my mitts on this game.

"One of the most surprising things we discovered when playing through the first few hours of BioShock Infinite was the rampant presence of racism throughout the streets of Columbia, a society seemingly lifted to a higher standard in terms of technology but dragging its knuckles on the wrong side of history. Playing another key role in the narrative of the upcoming Irrational Games title is religion, centered around a self-appointed prophet that rules the skyward city and who stands in the way of allowing protagonist Booker DeWitt to complete his ultimate objective."

""Originally, the conflict in [BioShock Infinite] was one between technologists and luddites, and it just wasn't very interesting for us. The story didn't go anywhere, because there wasn't a lot of historical precedence for it and it didn't really resonate. And it evolved, and it kept evolving many, many times," Levine told Joystiq. "But it's all about how you do it, not what you do."

I choose Design #4

Design #6 is also great

I have a feeling Design #4 will be the winner.

I voted for #6, though I wish it had a bit of a more feeling for Columbia. #4 is/was leading (page is down as I type this) but I don't like barebones concept art. Also, no Liz and I don't like the colors...'cause there aren't many. It does have Columbia, though.

I like design 2 it reminds me of the first bioshock cover

Although I wonder why they just wont make all 6 available for download to print.

I voted for design 6. But I'm okay with the fourth design winning even though it would've been better if the logo was altered. It doesn't fit with the rest of the art.

Bioshock is an established franchise. All this uproar about the cover is a bunch of hooey. You play the game that's on the inside of the case, not the cover.

from yesterday

Interview: Ken Levine on American history, racism in BioShock Infinite: “I’ve always believed that gamers were underestimated.”

In between gathering good and ungood impressions of BioShock Infinite during my hands-on last week, I had a chance to talk with creative director Ken Levine about the game’s interesting expression of American history and social issues like racism.

^Interesting preview. Ten bucks that opening dialogue's going to come back later...
And of course he loses that gun right off the bat. :hehe:

The post-it note on the map of America says
Be Prepared.
He's on the way.
Stop him.

(C meaning "Comstock," presumably)
