The incredible and increasingly worse close-mindedness of online comic book nerds. As much as we don't like the stereotypes attached to us comic book fans, the most of us prove that The Simpsons' Comic Book Guy is an accurate depiction of the majority of us.
I think those characters were off limits. Jared Leto doesn't seem interested in returning as the Joker or WB don't want him back and WB are saving Batman for the upcoming solo film directed by Matt Reeves.
Leto did want to reprise his Joker but WB didn't which is unfortunate because I would have liked to see him given another chance. People watched Suicide Squad because they liked Harley, Deadshot, Joker and Batfleck all interacting. WB releasing Leto, Will Smith and Ben Affleck is now looking like a terrible decision which has put Gunns SS2 in unsettled waters and caused BoP to underperform majorly.
Affleck didn't want to continue, he just wanted to be in Zack's Snyder's 3 movies and one movie that he was going to write and direct. Will Smith didn't want to comeback and he accepted the role of Genie in Disney's Aladdin.
Leto was not received positively by majority of fans and Critics and after he accepted to play Morbius, he could be out too, but WB still hasn't Officially announced anything about him.
I personally prefer Harley from the Batman Animated series.... but I did like Harley in this movie which is mostly due to Margot Robbie's performance and I kinda like they've tried to make Harley independent. So I hope they will do a Gotham City Sirens movie with Harley teaming up with Catwoman and Poison Ivy.
It’d be great if they did a Harley & Ivy movie. I’d love a Gotham City Sirens film but I feel like a Catwoman is off limits because she’s in the Batman movie now.

Is Catwoman really that important to the Sirens? I'm not super into the comics, but Gotham City Sirens signals Harley and Ivy, imo. Add in one or two other female Bat villains, and it should be fine.
I saw Birds Of Prey last weekend. I didn't hate it, but it felt EXACTLY like what I thought it was going to be: A "Harley Quinn and Friends" movie. I didn't want the Birds being supporting characters in their own movie.
That being said, anytime they were on screen was incredible. I just wish we could've spent some more time with Jurnee Smollett's Black Canary AND Mary Elizabeth Winstead's Huntress in terms of screen time and kicking ass. They were my main reasons for seeing Birds Of Prey.
Ewan McGregor totally delivered as Black Mask though, and even though I felt there were some parts where the movie slows down or feels jumbled, that's where Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn REALLY shines. There's always some funny or something to keep you invested.
For me, the big payoff came towards the end with
The Birds of Prey in costume!
. I will say this: 1. We DEFINITELY need a Green Arrow/Black Canary movie, and 2. A solo Huntress movie/TV show, or for her to at least meet Batman.
Overall, it was pretty fun. I left the theater feeling there was a lot of potential for future stories.
Watched it two times, think the film is a bit of a mixed bag. Some good bits, some bad bits.
My problem is tied to the general trend of Harley Quinn moving away from villainy; it's not a new story, a villain becomes popular, so writers star making them less evil, often to the point of them being becoming a hero.
I much prefer Harley as a villain, so her movement towards good guy status has been bugging me for years.
That being said, Robbie did a great job, the cast as a whole were very good and I enjoyed most of the characters. Black Canary, Huntress and Montoya were brilliant, I wish they had been given more screen time.
I think this is my favourite version of Black Mask, him and Zsaz worked well as villains.
I much prefer it to Aquaman or Shazam, but I really wish it had been more of BOP film. Could have done with an extra half hour, or cutting some Harley stuff to put more of a spotlight on the others.
The action scenes were good, but got quite repetitive. as the film went on and the number of goons increased they seemed like less of a threat. I think the film would have benefited from a "boss battle" or two; villains who couldn't be beaten with a couple of hits.
For example, I was disappointed we never got a fight scene with Mr Zsasz. There was a perfect set up for a real title bout between Black Canary and Zsasz when she refuses to kill Cassandra. Right there was the opportunity for a match between two of DCs most dangerous fighters, instead he got shot. A bit of a waste.
Wasn't happy with Cassandra Cain, if they wanted a generic pick pocket character, they shouldn't have used that name.
I think a more comic inspired Cassandra could have been better for the role, someone who's life had been nothing but discipline would be a great counterpoint to Harley. The controlling figure of her father would have also tied in perfectly with the films themes.
I was a little confused about exactly who Doc had sold Harley and Cassandra out to: the cops? That guy with the fireworks? They could afford to pay him enough to open a good restaurant?
I think they should have brought in a specific person, a high profile assassin would could afford to buy out Doc and would provide a more intense single opponent fight: David Cain, trying to reassert control over his daughter who is coming to value her independence.
Using that type of Cassandra Cain would also open up Lady Shiva as a natural sequel villain.
Although I have significant hang ups, I think there was more I liked about the film than I disliked, I'd be keen to see a BOP follow up (without Harley).
