Birds of Prey Birds of Prey General Discussion and Speculation

I look at this trailer 2 ways....

1. As a Harley Quinn movie it was a good trailer.

2. As a BOP/HQ movie... I was disappointed. Dinah/Helena might as well have been nobody's. Dont call the film if you aren't going to feature them.

Of course this is only the first trailer but as the first trailer I expect it to draw me in.

This looks so good, Harley is obviously the star here and that;s fine, if it wasn't for Margot Robbie we wouldn't have this film. I'm still convinced we'll see Ewan as full on Black Mask in a sequel (most probably Gotham City Sirens) The style kind of reminds me a little of the film Drive, it looks absolutely beautiful.

Watched the trailer quite a few times now And I really am pumped for this.it has a flavor of its own, which is so good. And I'm sure we will see Ewan with the mask on in a sequel, and speaking of that, I'm willing to bet Gotham city sirens will look different than this but special in its own way too.im excited

If the actual BOP don't get anything of significance than it didn't need to get made yet. It would've been made eventually with Barbara. (Yes I am overreacting at the moment)

Jimmy Palmiotti tweeted today that Margot is looking into the future regarding these movies and being that Hodson wrote Batgirl as well, i'm assuming she's going for a mini-universe type of deal.

BOP, GCS & Batgirl will probably all be tied together with Black Mask as the main antagonist throughout

I can understand what you mean as the Birds of Prey tends to be Barbara, Huntress and Black Canary (I believe?) but we do have two of those in the team. Barbara would have been awesome but I think Matt Reeves Batman project saw to it that certain characters were going to be off limits.

Barbara as Oracle and Black Canary are the founding members of Birds of Prey and Huntress joined shortly after.
it's just lil weird to see BOP without Barbara, it's like Trinity movie without Superman.
i like the trailer tho.

This reminds me of how Aquaman couldn't be a member of the Justice League in the DCAU because he was supposed to get his own live action show. Or something similar to that.

Who did Black Mask have hanging upside down? Was that Huntress?

Birds of Prey vs Gotham City Sirens. That’s all I ever asked for. This......I don’t even know what it is or who it is meant for. It’s trying to be a Harley Quinn film whilst simultaneously trying to make her look anything but HQ. I’ve never felt so disinterested and disconnected from a Batman themed movie before. It reads like a director who had no interest in trying to adhere to anything in the comics, and instead just did whatever the hell they wanted. As a Batman adaptation it looks bad, as a trailer it feels awkward. If you didn’t like Margot in Suicide Squad then I don’t see the appeal.

Yeah WB often have these mandates where characters can't appear on TV because they have a film in development so this feels very familiar to that. I can understand this one a little bit more because Matt Reeves may have plans for Barbara and maybe they're not sure how they want all these films to connect yet.

The ones I don't get is why Hal Jordan couldn't appear in the Arrowverse when there's been no film since the 2011 one or Ted Kord who has never had a movie. Weirdly they seem to be relaxed sometimes like letting Superman on the CW when the cinematic one was still active. Another weird one was not letting Gotham use the Joker's look, just why not? I'd love to be a fly on the wall when people are making these decisions lol.

You and I are on the same page

I totally understand that view, I'm not really knowledgeable on the BOP or that connected to them so its not eliciting that reaction from me.

A Trinity film without Superman would bother the hell out of me, wouldn't shock me if it happened given how WB Movie division treats the Man of Steel lol.

I can respect them wanting to do their own thing in terms of costuming, but I’m starting to get sick of hearing, “x will come in a sequel.” I understand taking characters on journeys, but good God. Not everyone and everything needs to be Batman Begins-ed.

And unless you are Sony, your sequels are 3-4 years away.

That leaves a whole lot of people for this to be for, then. Even a lot of people who didn't like SS still liked Margot as Harley. She was the breakout character of that (surprisingly successful) film.

To be fair, the only people saying that are the fans.

You just need to capture the spirit of the comic book look, no-ones asking for 100% accuracy. Huntress looks like any old generic action chick.

While true, something needs to be said about Cassandra Cain. DC takes a major L on this one.

I’m somewhat skeptical to the extent of this claim that’s been thrown around. I’ve seen plenty of people say they thought she was the best thing in SS, but that the film was still terrible, and I don’t see how this trailer does anything to separate itself from that film. If anything, it looks like a direct continuation of that film.

I agree it's terrible but it still made money and probably one of the most profitable DCEU movies to date over MOS, BvS. Giving the genre along with Venom, new exceptions to the rule.

A film doesn't make $750mil with no fans, sorry.

And I say this as someone who absolutely hated it, and doesn't like Harley Quinn (any version) at all. But people obviously dug her. I think you're confusing online chatter with the actual public. The vocal people online rarely speak for the majority. Money is the only surefire gauge of how general audiences feel, because the only way movies make big bucks like that is through repeat viewings and word-of-mouth. Which means, yep, they loved Venom and Transformers, too.

This one actually looks pretty good. I may watch it.

It can't be worse than Suicide Squad.

I think you’re misunderstanding me. I don’t like that the Birds (and to a lesser extent Harley) don’t look like themselves, but I respect and understand it as an artistic choice.

What annoys me is the idea that we need to see characters undergo a 2 hour journey to get them to a place where it’d be appropriate for them to wear a cape or a mask.

To be fair, the only people saying that are the fans.

I know, I’m just saying.

And if it’s bad sequels suffer, so, yeah, I’m not betting the house on this one matching that figure.
