Sony Spin-Off Black Cat/Silver Sable spinoff film

Uh, it was my understanding that Sony didn't have the full rights to Jessica Drew, but only to her costume and spider-powers? No really, it was in the leaked emails.

How reliable is SplashReport anyway?

I think Justice League reshoot rumors came form them

The synopsis really does not sound bad, the only problem with this whole thing is the fact that Sony and Disney aren't collaborating on this. **** that.

And those JL rumor turned out to be wrong, didn't they?

Wasn't a version of Jessica Drew set to appear in their Glass Ceiling movie, though?
Wow, this is literally the first time I hear of this. So at some point Sony was planning to make a Spider-women spin-off?

EDIT: I did some research and found the article that originally broke the news... if it could even be called that, since it was never confirmed to be true.

There are not a ton of female superheroes that would be part of the Spider-Man package. The ones that spring immediately to mind are:

The Black Cat

Silver Sable

Spider-Girl

Silk

It's not really clear if Spider-Woman is part of the package, but I suspect she is.
Sounds like an indirect confirmation of what the emails said to me, but who knows.

Guess that means no Kraven or Norman in the MCU

Yeah, which is one of the ideas I don't like from the alleged plot. Then again, given all that Marvel is planning to do in phase 4, I wonder how long it would take to even get to the Osborn's given that they're trying to avoid using the same storylines of the Raimi and Webb verses.

Everything else i'd be fine with, especially since characters like Chameleon and Scorpion likely won't make into a Spiderman film for a long time anyway. That said I do hope this is effectively in the MCU with Holland's Spiderman and not some separate universe nonsense.

I really doubt Marvel will let another studio make movies that take place in their CU... we're talking about the same people who won't even aknowledge their own tv shows. :hehe:

If this is really true and they're using all of these villains in this Sony universe, I dearly hope that doesn't mean the MCU can't touch them. That would be a really poor move. Sure, take Venom and black cat and silver sable. But not scorpion, chameleon, Kraven, and Norman Osborn. That's just wrong

LOL. That's a good point that people are ignoring. Feige and co only care about the movie side of the MCU and the characters they can use or control. The other studios and divisions can do whatever they want to do.

Marvel/Sony: I think Marvel does care though... They aren't touching the inhumans anymore with the TV show coming out (planned to abandon them anyway once film division separated from Marvel but still...)

There was some speculation month or two ago about Marvel perhaps buying Spiderman out from Sony. Perhaps this was an attempt to prevent these films from happening or to lay stake to the original Spiderman character if couldn't buy Spiderman franchise back outright. I remember back in Feb. Pascal making clear they planned to revisit the deal after the Homecoming sequel so perhaps this was in response to pressure from Disney around beginning of year (seems have been actors given this impression while working on set of marvel films last yr 2016 so perhaps true)?

Thoughts: Eitherway, indication now is these films are happening. Silver and Black synopsis I agree with person above sounds pretty good and understand perhaps bit of frustration with how many characters from the comics this film will be using. I think a re-invention of sorts was necessary to provide a basis between 2 characters interacting that otherwise don't in the comics. However, like others wish the characters could be a bit more tied down to the source material at least as far as character background goes while making own story or adding more details.

Furthermore, I think it's pretty cool to be using some of these characters but at the same time do feel that perhaps things are being re-invented too much... Not saying won't be a good movie but just definitely it's own thing it seems.

Obscure Comic Characters: Just like to share the first comic's remember seeing Silver Sable and Black Cat in:

Re-Print of Amazing Spiderman 279 remember picking up fittingly having the tagline "where is spiderman?":

Original Cover of this found when googling also found one with Black Cat (black cat one unaware of till now):

Wow. This news just gets worse.

First Venom can't appear in the MCU (and takes Carnage with him)

Now we can't get Scorpion, Tombstone, Kraven or Green Goblin either (and without Norman, Hobgoblin can't show up)

Sony really have no idea what they're doing. This film sounds awful and sounds like it wastes a number of villains on a spin-off film. That's incredibly stupid and short-sighted.

This also gets rid of the tragic elements of Scorpion.

Anyway, to make the best of a bad situation, here's who I hope gets cast.

Sibel Kekilli (Game of Thrones) - Silver Sable

Kate McKinnon (Saturday Night Live) - Black Cat

Diego Luna (Star Wars) - Scorpion

Danny Trejo (Machete) - Tarantula

Pyotr Fyodorov (Russia 88) - Kraven The Hunter

Denzel Washington (Training Day, Fences, Malcolm X) - Tombstone

and finally (the casting I want to see the most)

Stephen Dillane (Game of Thrones) - Norman Osborn

If Dillane becomes Norman, I'm there. As in I will pay to see this inevitable trainwreck.

You just posted ton of pics right after me... lol:cwink:

Anyway, the castings with exception of Norman I can't really get the correct vibe (besides that appearances I think are vast departure as well). Stannis Baratheon is only area know that actor from though and seems have kind of a Norman Osborne vibe but not so sure about being the best fit for the projection of craziness when he's the Goblin.

Yeah but if they're doing Dark Reign for a full phase, then Dillane works VERY well as that version of the Green Goblin.

Plus, he has Norman Osborn's hairline.

I am not as familiar with a lot of the more recent comics storylines so perhaps so. I'm mainly familiar with the Green Goblin from the "Pursuit" storyline in which Spiderman is in pursuit trying to kill the Chameleon with a few one-shots on Harry Osborn (can't remember what were) reaching back from beyond the grave. I mainly remember the Revelations involving Norman that I think could be phenomally adapted.

To me Norman the businessman is too much of a front (then again probably just put off by really bad storytelling; even as kid thought so) of Norman standing around in a business suit forever post-revelations acting all wimpy and not doing anything constantly foreshadowing nothing. Comics post-2000 probably wrote him much better no doubt.

With all that being said, I think going back to the roots of the character before killed Gwen Stacy and adapting that is probably the best route to go but perhaps with this being sort of an alternate universe take a version like from Dark Reign would work the best just haven't read it or am familiar with it so perhaps...

Dark Reign was a loosely connected series of storylines that featured Norman Osborn as the director of SHIELD before it culminated in Siege.

Why on earth would Sony want to sabotage their own character by creating another one just like him in another distinctly different series of live action films?

It's Sony.

That sounds ludacris.

Once again...Sony.

And totally negates the idea of making this deal in the first place if all they were going to do is create another Peter Parker.

Sony. :csad:

Why would you even support a ridiculous attempt by Sony to do this?

Harry has had some...interesting opinions about Movie Spider-Man for a while.

That's my understanding. On top of that, they almost certainly don't have the rights to Dominic Fortune - he was cast to appear in Marvel's Most Wanted so he's with Disney. All that being said, the actual plot - involving Mendel Stromm, Scorpion, Tarantula, and Chameleon seem fine. I'm even ok with Kraven and Tombstone, although we're getting very busy.

I'm just skeptical of this report given that I don't buy Fortune being in it and I doubt Jessica Drew would be either (that being said, Fortune and Drew tell me they're certainly considering anyone who creates an international spy vibe).

I really doubt Marvel will let another studio make movies that take place in their CU... we're talking about the same people who won't even aknowledge their own tv shows. :hehe:

The closest I could see happening is allowing Sony to incorporate some background elements and references of the MCU and pretending it's all connected while Feige ignores the movies. I'm skeptical of that. Although I wouldn't completely foreclose Marvel using characters even if they appeared in a recent Sony movie.

All that being said, while I'm not opposed to many of these elements, I'm not going to buy it without a completely independent source given my skepticism over rights issues.

Splash Report did accurately report that more reshoots were coming for Justice League.

* Shrugs *
Didn't they say the movie was completely changed? Also, didn't they same something about more X-Force characters in Deadpool that somebody working on it denied?

They were also right about the Rouge One reshoots. Sp we'll see. The only thing that sucks about this is not getting Norman or Harry in the MCU

Well, splashreport probably has some relevancy as Marvel was perhaps (I'm guessing here) trying to get the rights back last year. I think one can ascertain this from 1 actor in particular involved in infinity war being given this impression before sort of passing it off (Dave Bautista given impression perhaps in some manner but certainly not something be taken literally nor is it any spoilers so heck).

Anyway, I wish they would've put Jason Macendale as Jack O'Lantern in moreso than Green Goblin. Also, I may be mistaken but isn't it only Sable's mother who was killed by enemies of her father (started up merc group hunt Nazi war criminals) whose harsh discipline brought her up into being CEO of Silver Sable International and leader of the Wildpack in 616 universe... (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silver_Sable). According to wiki, the Ultimate Universe sort of adds to this making parents troubled. I could think of a richer layering to this than the synopsis gives as well but oh well...

So these spin offs may hold onto some of the greatest spidey villains ever. Wow I just can't with Sony. Why can't they just be lax like universal. Universal just let marvel have hulk like it was nothing.

Because Universal apparently is already making more money than Disney.

There is one part of this rumor that sounds good; not a mention of Spider-Man.
