Black Friday thread: Shop Like a Beast!

People buy 4k media for the same reason they buy a slightly upgraded iPhone. To say they have it. Hell on a phone I can't tell between 720 and 1080 unless the **** is rght up in my face.

Yeah I'm fine with Blu Ray quality.

At a certain point it gets kinda silly. Blu Ray is already perfectly clear to me. And I'm pretty sure if you do the "Pepsi challenge" on 4k Blu Ray and regular Blu Ray, most people including myself wont be able to tell the difference

Even 4k TVs I hear are a waste to buy unless you sit right infront of the screen and that's even if you buy the high end ones.

Agreed. I'm perfectly content with Blu-Ray. Even iTunes playback quality is surprisingly good on Apple TV. I tend to alternate between both.

At some point, I might consider upgrading to 4K (assuming it's worth it) -- but I'm in no hurry.

I have a 4K. Not much of a difference between 1080p and 4K to my eyes.

I don't see the need for a 4K TV set, to be honest.

I have a LCD television that runs 1080p and it is perfectly fine for everything, including blu-ray and gaming.

It depends on screen size (and of course source media used). On normal sized TVs the difference is not big. When you're going 70" plus and using a dedicated 4k disc player it's much more noticeable and even more so on a film projector.

It's pretty easy to spot the difference between an HDTV and a 4K tv. I don't know why it's hard for some of you.

You must be as blind as Anne Frank if you can't tell the difference with a 4K TV.

I don't know if everyone who is comparing is using a full 4K source as if not then obviously there wouldn't be any or much difference. Streaming 4K also on Netflix or Amazon Prime won't be that big of a step up from a blu-ray disc but a 4k disc on a 4k player is beautiful.

I can see a small difference. Just not enough to care about it.
It's not that big if a change in any movie I've seen. And I maintain most wouldn't see much of a difference watching 4k

It's not like the jump from DVD to Blu Ray from what I've seen. Blu Ray is perfectly clear. I'm fine buying the cheaper copies when the picture is perfect enough to me. If you wanna buy 4k, more power to ya, I'm good on it.

I don't even know why they made a whole new thing with 4k Blu Rays when people still buy DVDs and Blu Rays still haven't been fully adopted

And Anne Frank wasn't blind bruv

I restricted my shopping to Wal-Mart this Black Friday. Acquisitions were nice: X-Men: Apocalypse (BD), Star Trek Beyond (BD.) I was irritated that they did not have any of the advertised Disney animation BluRays.

But would Anne Frank prefer 4K or 1080?

Well of course, the box in which the TV came in would clearly say it, right? :woot::woot:

Don't people read anymore? sheesh!

There are people who if told something will believe it, even if it turns out to either be misleading or flat out false.

Are 4k televisions better than 1080p? Yeah. But is the difference noticable to the average viewer in the average at home situation watching mostly not-4k content? Not really.

Maybe in a few years 4k will have more content and people who have that right amount of distance from their television will notice it. Or maybe it will be the next 3D television fad or curved screen which is actually worse for watching than a regular flat screen.

I don't see how a curved HDTV set is any better, I've seen them displayed at Best Buy and don't really see the need for it, the giant movie theaters aren't curved so why should I have one, I mean it's also not good for when having groups of people come over to my house and the poor saps sitting to the left and right corners of the room will see even less of the picture.

That I can agree with, curved tvs are just for aesthetics and fashion. It doesn't make the viewing experience any better.

They're taking into account that the people that would actually buy a curved tv have no close friends whatsoever.

All my Black Friday Blu Ray's came in. Most I actually got in store.
