Why is IM2 Widow better than Avengers Widow?

Well IM2 BW is using her sexuality(in a bit subtle way) to get close to Tony to keep an eye on him. She's also more of a mystery in IM2. In TA she's really never using sex as a weapon/tool. Plus we get more of her backstory. She's in full agent mode in TA.

Shocker, I know, but Scarlet Johansson never seemed to me to have the kind of physicality you'd expect in an international superspy. Couple that with frankly lousy action, including hand to hand combat scenes, and Johansson's dreadful nonacting (it's not a matter of Black Widow being "detached and professional" because Fury and Hill are also detached and professional and Samuel L. Jackson and Cobie Smulders can still emote) and Black Widow really doesn't do anything to me.

It's like they cast somebody for sex appeal rather than for whether or not said actress could play the role of a badass spy/assassin who just so happened to use sex as one of many of her weapons.

And dear God, but Cobie Smulders is just gorgeous.

Cobie Smulders wasn't all that great as Maria Hill. Most of her acting experience comes from a sitcom and it showed. So, Scarlett Johansson all the way. By the way, did anyone notice during the scene with Loki, Joss Whedon got this amazing shot of Scarlett's butt? Someone needs to get a still of that.

Sitcom or not, Cobie Smulders can actually emote for a change (and emote she does!), and one of her recent character-focus episodes had me in goddamn tears. And even given her extremely limited role in this movie (basically kill a few mooks and then be Gwen DeMarco) she was still a much more believable high ranking member of a transnational law enforcement/intelligence organization than Johansson is an assassin/intelligence officer for said organization.

I thought Cobie did very well with the relatively short screentime she had. I'm glad she'll be onboard for the next handful of Marvel movies and hopefully she'll get a bigger role in all of them.

I liked Scarlet as Black Widow in appearance more in Iron Man... I like the longer hair.

I'm a big fan of Maria Hill too - and I especially like that they didn't have Cobie with short hair and rather in a bun.

Why is it always the hair for me? lol
