Blade Runner 2049 - Part 1

Replicants are hard ones to figure out, and the movie doesn't fully explain the technology behind them. Ridley Scott has but it's still vague enough that they're not seen as mere clones.

That's why there's the voight kampff tests, because their biological make-up is very much close to humans. They don't have metal, but they can be stronger than humans, live in harsher environments, and a limited life span. It's like they're in-between, and not as obvious as a Terminator or a Synthetic from Aliens.

So I guess they're machines but the scientsis were able to craft models by only using organic parts. They they can be still be programed, etc.

I got chills from the first shot of Gosling walking in the red/orange world. It's mysterious, yet also definitely part of the original Blade Runner world.

Gosling is just on fire these days with his work. From The Big Short, The Nice Guys, La La Land and now this, man!

Does anyone know if this is intended to start a franchise or just a one off project to put a cap on the 1982 original?

When this was first announced, they mentioned creating a franchise, but it's hard to say. I think now they're playing it by ear.

With Blade Runner, it's caught in between being an semi art house film, and sci-fi genre piece. You can make sequels out of it, but the original had a certain dreamy tempo to it that isn't as mainstream as other films. Then again, when Aliens arrived after Alien, did anyone expected a sequel to that?

But you don't want Blade Runner to dive into AvP territory.

Doing a sequel after this long always feels like a risk, but got damn, did that teaser's visuals work for me...

Serve me up some cinematography and score and I'll be able to forgive other shortcomings.

They actually said creating and expanding the universe through graphic novels and comics. We won't get another Blade Runner film after this I don't think.

If that's the case then that's cool. To make a franchise out it would be such a liability.

It better not have any shortcomings and be a f****** great film, like the first one.

I hope there's no Blade Runner cinematic universe in development. I want to believe it's an inspired project, not just an attempt to make money on nostalgia, cult status or whatever.

Not watching a single second of footage of this movie until I get to the theater, but it's nice reading all the reactions. If nothing else this film is going to be a visual masterpiece. I hope this is the resurgence of cyberpunk in the mainstream.

You're setting yourself up for disappointment. It's just been too long. There's no way this doesn't fall short in at least a few aspects.

Cyberpunk is certainly making a comeback next year with blade runner 2049, Duncan Jones mute and ghost in the shell.

Contemporary cyberpunk show me robot has also been doing well on tv.

Nice euphemism for boring... :woot: I certainly hope this sequel will have more things inside it than the original which felt rather empty at some places, so even though I don't think BR is so fantastic as other people do (maybe one day I'll understand), BR2049 is one of my most anticipated films of the next year because I loved the visuals and music of the original and I think the setting has great potential for a lot of interesting stories.

I don't think this philosophy is true. I wasn't disappointed by Fury Road, for example. It's not easy to make a worthy sequel for such a seminal work, but Blade Runner is in my top 10 of the greatest movies ever and like Villeneuve said himself, people will be carrying baseball bats to theaters. Me including. I won't be satisfied by just enjoyable action or atmospheric rainy scenes. I'm not going to love the film just because it's called Blade Runner or setting myself for enjoyment of a mediocre film.

Hey man! The first one is soooooo boring. Too much building of atmosphere! Where's the fast pace? Too much philosophical mumbo jumbo. When was Deckard gonna kill a *****?

I so missed Snyder when I watched Blade Runner.

Your point being what?

Somewhere Sean Young is throwing a fit for not being invited to this lol

It's such a shame what happened to her. She was so promising, after looking at her filmography in the 80's as this dreamy doe eyed girl. Later, only to be known as crazy lady who wanted to be Catwoman, and the now offensive villain of Ace Ventura. That scene when the twist is revealed in Ace Ventura, and the underwear scene (accompanied by the Crying Game song) was such a career low for her.

I liked the fact Deckard spent most of the first movie getting his ass kicked and barely survived.

Rick was a bad Blade Runner, and now he's patting himself on the back as an old man.

:awesome:

Was I ****ing wrong. Villenueve, I could kiss you. With that first shot as gorgeous as it was, I lost spirit. Villenueve is trying to copy and pay too much respect. But once it cut to that desert shot I was wowed. Talk about polar opposites. There's even a different color! It has me intrigued. Where is this place he's walking? What has happened since then? Is K a replicant? What is the thing that K needs Deckard's help with? It still sounds like a detective film which is great. So far, this looks to be how one should go about reviving a classic movie. I'm glad it's not yet another, "Blade Runner must hunt replicants" story. It's brand new but still is a detective movie.

2017 so far looks to be a more promising year of film.
