Overwatch is getting an overhaul for its second season of competitive play. Game director Jeff Kaplan talks about the changes being made in Season 2 in the latest video from the development team.
The next competitive season is going to make the shift to a tiered system that gives players rewards based on the highest tier theyve earned throughout the event rather than their final standing or Skill Rating. The cool part of the tiers that were going to do is at certain tiers were not going to let you drop out of that tier, Kaplan explains. Except for the two highest tiers which are Master and Grand Master all of the other tiers, once you achieve that tier for the season, you will remain in that tier for the season even if your skill rating drops below what you initially had to do to enter that tier.
As a result, rewards for Season 2 will be given based on the highest tier each player achieves. You should feel pretty good even though your playing may be in the Silver skill rating for the last week of the season, but if you ever got into Gold, you will get the reward for Gold, Kaplan notes regarding the change.
Kaplan details the reason for the change is all part of a new Skill Rating system that rates players within a range of 1 and 5,000 instead of between 1 and 100. We dont want to have that debilitating feeling that players have when they lose something in the game. Right now, that 52 Skill Rating player feels just awful when they drop down to 51. We want to get rid of that feeling.

[YT]H3xFKckFCGM[/YT]Today at gamescom, Blizzard has given fans a preview of the first new map in Overwatch since the games debut. Named Eichenwalde, the map is of an abandoned village complete with a towering castle located near Stuttgart, Germany.
Per Blizzard, the village has its own history and significance in the world of Overwatch, which reads as follows.
The site of one of the most famous battles during the Omnic Crisis, it was here that the leader of the Crusaders, Balderich von Alder, and a handful of his best soldiers made a last stand against an advancing automaton army. Outnumbered and outgunned, they were ultimately slain during the resulting combat. However, thanks to their valiant efforts, the German military was able to push back the omnic offensive and win the fight.
Players will complete either an assault or escort mission on the vast new area. The escort team strives to take a battering ram up to the castle, seeking to retrieve Balderichs body. Meanwhile, the assault team seeks to prevent Eichenwalde Castle from being breached.

Not sure. they could easily do that but people seem content with the comic's for now. We'll see I guess.Activision has its own studio set up, why are they not doing an Overwatch series or CG animated movie yet?
Basically I want a TV series done in the style of those shorts.

The latest update to Overwatch is now available for PC users in the game’s Public Test Region, which is accessible from the Region/Account drop down menu in the game’s Battle.net app. This time around, a few small buffs were added to Ana, Junkrat, and Widowmaker. For example, Ana’s Biotic Grenade’s radius has been changed from 3 meters to 4 meters. Many other general adjustments and fixes were also included in the patch.
You can read through a few of the updates below.
GENERAL UPDATES
General
- Static cameras are now supported in spectator mode
- Team names can now be edited in custom games
- Raised the volume of Hanzo’s Dragonstrike voice line while wearing the Okami/Lone Wolf Skin
- Heroes hit by Ana’s Nano Boost have a new voice line that informs other players
- Increased frequency of Reinhardt’s “barrier failing” voice line
- Custom Games can now be paused
HERO BALANCE UPDATES
Ana
- Nano Boost
- Ultimate cost has been increased by 20%
- Biotic Grenade
- Radius has been increased from 3 to 4 meters
Developer Comments: So far, we haven’t seen any indication that Ana is too strong overall, but her ultimate charges a little too fast, especially considering the impact it can have on a match. Also, her Biotic Grenades are getting a small boost to help her hit multiple targets.
Widowmaker
- Widow’s Kiss
- Scoping-in animation time has been reduced from 0.5 to 0.3 seconds
Developer Comments: This change will help Widowmaker acquire new targets more quickly and speed up her reaction time in fast-paced situations.
Junkrat
- RIP-Tire
- Ability now activates more quickly
Developer Comments: Junkrat can be an extremely effective hero in the right hands, but RIP-Tire often felt underpowered when compared to his counterparts.
USER INTERFACE UPDATES
General
- Several minor aesthetic changes have been made to the game’s Main, Social, and Options menus
- Removed several stats that were duplicated for certain heroes throughout the career profile
- Controller users can now choose between two aiming modes
- Dual-Zone mode (New default): The vast majority of the thumbstick’s range moves with reduced sensitivity and relatively high acceleration. However, when the thumbstick crosses to the outer 10% of its range, it will move with high sensitivity and relatively low acceleration. This mode will allow for more precise aiming, while still allowing players to turn around quickly.
- Exponential Ramp mode (Old default): As the thumbstick moves toward the outside of its range, the sensitivity is ramped up exponentially. The acceleration remains relatively high throughout.
- Camera movement in Spectator Mode has been improved
Social Features
- Certain commendations will now appear less frequently during end-of-round voting, and others will appear more frequently (e.g. Most Gold Medals and Torbjörn’s Armor Packs Created)
