Bought/Thought 3/26

Wolverine First Class #1 was good. Di Vito's art was excellent and Van Lente succeeds where Parker did before him: he makes the X-Men fun again.

I almost picked that up. I flipped through it and it looks like a ton of fun, but I'm trying to cut down on new titles right now. Considering that that one sort of an out of continuity book set in the past, it didn't meet the requirements.

Yeah, it's easy to skip because it's not really relevant to the present, but between this and Aaron/Garney's Wolverine run, I'm starting to actually like Wolverine again. WFC also kind of reinforces his position in X-Force. He blows up on Xavier when Xavier sends Kitty on a mission with him because he doesn't want to expose Kitty to the kind of things he does.

In the end, I would let the market work it out.

??

And the more Marvel is slapped with lawsuits (by people who are actually offended) the more they'll crack down. And if they're not offended, well, what's the problem?

So all legal stakeholders should retain lawyers and sue the hell out of each other over every little thing, but patrons of a company's product shouldn't, like, discuss what they consider to be acceptable ethical standards and business practices and allocate their comic-buying dollars accordingly?

I mean if that's how you think things should go then all right, I'm just saying that's the opposite of letting the market work something out.

Yeah, he's always been like that. Nice to see it's being shown again, though. The Di Vito art looked tasty, but I don't know that I'm interested in reading a Wolverine who's the social misfit of the X-Men. He started out that way, but he's grown up so to speak. It's the same as my disinterest in watching a Spider-Man cartoon set in high school.

X-Men Legacy was also good, if you want to talk present-day X-Men. It went in a completely different direction from what I thought they were setting up, but I'm cool with it. The only drawback to this issue is that the scenes from Xavier's mind are drawn by Billy Tan, who's a colossal step down from Romita, Jr. But it's serviceable work and Eaton, swiper or not, does a good job with the reality stuff. The issue ends on a good cliffhanger, too, and the fact that this issue leaped way off to another direction from where I thought it would go makes me wonder where it might leap next. That sense of unpredictability is rarely done well in today's comics, so I welcome it. Also, lots of Karima Shapandar action, and I like her. Magneto's also a bit of a badass for a panel or two.

Yeah, Legacy surprised the hell out of me. I'm a sucker for the Magneto/Xavier dynamic and seeing them interact, but the real treat is Karima. She's a super awesome character and the prospect that she'll have an increased role in what's ahead is what's keeping me on this book.

Yeah, I like the idea of Mags and Chuck searching for the missing pieces of Chuck's mind with Karima as their bodyguard or whatever. But, like I said, who the hell knows if that's where Carey's gonna go with it?

It sure seems that way, what with Chuck, Magneto and Karima being the sole "heroes" of the book. I also liked Magnus' answer to the question of why he wouldn't just let Xavier die.

Yeah, there was just enough philosophy and ruminating without getting overbearing, like stuff with Xavier and Magneto often does. I think Rogue and Gambit are somehow supposed to factor into Legacy soon, too. I wonder what role they'll play.

I'm wondering that myself. I'm not a huge fan of Rogue, but Carey always manages to do good things with her. She was a total badass during the Supernovas stuff. I just hope Gambit isn't going to be an emo *****e, following Rogue around and pining for her the whole time.

I randomly bought Logan #1 the other day in black and white, I think it's better than colored.

I flipped through both. They both have their qualities about them. I opted for the color version. I love me some Dean White colors.

There are 3 trades that collect the first 18 or so issues I believe. Amazon has them all listed under a simple book search for "Blue Beetle". Vol. 3 came out last month.

I've been sitting on some Amazon gift certificates for a couple of months, so maybe it's time to use them. I'm a little leery for two reasons. If I start dipping my toe into DC, I could easily double my budget. (Don't even get me started on some Vertigo and Image stuff.) It's actually a great problem to have: too many comics to buy.

And two, I'm not that caught up in what's going on in DC land - I have pretty much the most rudimentary knowledge of what happened in 52 and the differing Crisis'. That gonna give me any problem with this? (Booster hasn't given me any problems.) Any thoughts?

Blue Beetle's remained mostly safe from the Countdown/Final Crisis ****storm. It's pulling from the same well as Booster Gold, to be honest--bits and pieces of Infinite Crisis/52 as a backdrop, but mostly self-contained plots. Basically, if you like stuff like X-Men First Class, Incredible Hercules, Spider-Girl, etc., you should enjoy Blue Beetle.

Yeah, 5 minutes on Wikipedia is all you need to really catch up.

I bought the 2nd annual to S/B and it was awesome.

what did people think about Echo in New Avengers? specifically her hooking up with Hawkeye/Ronin. my brother is a huge Daredevil fan and loves Echo and when he read this issue he just flipped out cuz 1)he thought the issue sucked and 2)he says she was written out of character. what do Echo fans have to say?

i dont know anything about her before NA honestly...never really read much daredevil unfortunately

I don't care about Echo, really. Her DD issues were kind of trippy, but the character herself isn't interesting at all to me.

Well, Bendis writes everyone out of character so that's nothing new. But before she started appearing in New Avengers she had only made appearances in 2 Daredevil arcs. The one that introduced her and one where she sat around having visionquests or some s#!t.

That's almost utterly impossible considering she only appears in Bendis comics and the person that created her was the artist on the issue and good friends with Bendis.

I hate Echo. Seriously out of all the people that are on the two Avengers teams right now. She's the one that just sticks out like a sore thumb and makes you go ''What the **** is this lame attempt at the second coming of Elektra doing here?"

huh.....interesting. cuz he was making it sound like such a travesty to have her "flirting" with Logan and sleeping with Clint, and comparing it to Gwen having Norman's illegitimate children.

That was just horrible writing period. Those last few pages are utterly disgusting.
