Bought/Thought 7/30

What was the shocking ending?

Ok, Spoiler Alert!!!

Another Power Girl shows up, clobbers the crap out of the Power Girl that was sent there by Gog, and the beat up Power Girl is now on the run, desperately trying to figure what the hell is going on and how to get back home. (Of course, we're left clueless, too.)

Looking at my list of books I read this week, there were five I really, really liked: Skaar-Son Of Hulk #2, Black Panther #39, Wolverine #67, Hercules-The Thracean Wars #4, and Justice Society Annual #1. Hard to pick my Pick Of The Week. I'll say it's a tie between Hercules and Justice Society Annual #1.

Justice Society has pretty much been consistantly one of DCs best books.

Is Skaar really that good? It just seems boring to me.

I ditched JSA when it became more about nostalgia for various things--the Silver Age, Kingdom Come, etc.--than about the JSA'ers I actually gave a s*** about.

I scoffed at the whole idea when it was announced. BUT, if you loved Planet Hulk, you'll love Skaar. If you weren't a fan, then you might not like the book. For me, it's better than Hulk's current book, as I'm not a fan of Loeb's style.

The Annual was quite good, I actually didn't expect the twist and kind of interested where it has come from and what it leads too.

Secret Invasion-Fantastic Four #3: The kids can't spell "invisible" right but they have no problem spelling "lyja"?

The Justice Society Annual was good, but it's going to lead into one of my least favorite things in superhero comics: "The misunderstanding that leads to the good guys fighting one another despite the fact that this could all be solved if one person stopped for 5 minutes to explain things." I mean, the JSI is hunting New Earth Power Girl. All she has to do is show up at their base of operations, tell them she's not there to fight, and explain that she came to the wrong parallel universe. But nooo, Power Girl is probably gonna hide from the JSI while trying to secretly find someone who can help her quietly sneak back to New Earth. This won't work, and she'll have at least one tussle with at least one person in the JSI.

Or maybe the writing won't be cliched, and I'll be happy.

It'll be cliched, but what'cha going to do...the misunderstanding in-fighting between teams has been a staple of comics for years.

At least Marvel threw that cliche out the window, and now have heroes fighting heroes on purpose. :whatever:

The heroes are fighting Skrulls at Marvel right now. :)

For a second, I got my companies mixed up, and I thought, "She's a Skrull" when the second Power Girl arrived on the scene. Then, I remembered that this is DC.

Oh, that's right.....it is the cliched misunderstanding right now...since they don't know who is a hero or not...like Fury blasting Mrs. Marvel, even though she was fighting the skrulls right in front of him like two minutes prior to being blasted by him.

I guess they'll get to the fighting on purpose after the misunderstandings are done then.:whatever:

Yeah I thought it was pretty cliched. But then again, this is Earth-2, where they never got past cliches.

I'm also not crazy about there being some sort of copout with Power Girl's wish. Like oh yeah I'll take you back to your home...where there's also still another you! Screw that monkey's paw careful what you wish for nonsense. For once couldn't we just have a wish that was a wish that came true?

Maybe it did and the other PG is an imposter. I mean, if theres another PG, then that would mean that there is another Supes.....

Or maybe there needed to be a plot contrivance for Power Girl to realize that New Earth is her home before her upcoming series starts so she could finally stop whining about how everyone she only remembered knowing like a year ago is now dead.

We'll see...it will be interesting.

I want her to be a skrull though. :(

Ha, if only. :p
