Bought/Thought 4/2 Secret Invasion Edition

Well he does seem to have more violent intent. Optic blasting Rockslide out of a cafe in broad daylight in front of humans and all seems less than whitebread for Cyclops in general.

I guess they're really taking him to a much harsher moral code for the long-term. Mike Carey mentioned that he would even clash openly with another X-Man on moral issues during Secret Invasion: X-Men, and Wolverine's not in it so it seems likely that Cyclops will be the one with the darker morals.

Cyke, a bad guy? Well, that's cherry he's gotta pop eventually.

Not bad, per se. Just a morally ambiguous, pro-killing bastard. But his heart's in the right place. :oldrazz:

I can see it getting old after a while. Still, it's nice to see him in the spotlight again.

I hope he gets a little out of control and the other original X-Men ultimately have to rein him in, then he calms down and returns to a good balance.

Like they do with Wolverine? I'll pass on seeing him go "berserker".

Well, he's not gonna froth at the mouth or anything. But there are tasteful ways to take Cyclops to a pretty dark place that the other founders would have to pull him back from. It'd be a very long character arc, is all.

Yeah. He's gone dark before, but those were short little spurts of characterization.

Cyke's not the berserker type. If he went anything it'd be serial killer. Or like a Godfather II Michael Corleone with superpowers. In which case man, sucks to be Havok.

It's always sucked to be Havok. :o

No he doesn't. Well, at least Peter David Havok didn't suck.

I didn't read X-Cutioner's Song. I was referring to his Havok in his original X-Factor run. I even liked his a-hole Quicksilver. His characters fit.

What they are doing to Cyclops is almost like an adolescent power-fantasy. Blasting rockslide may be becoming more of a running joke (like Jazz getting thrown out of the mansion) but I don't really see that with his character. Protracted fights with Xavier and optic blasting people and my-way-or-the-highway-I'm-large-and-in-charge isn't leadership. It is bullying. Not only do I not like that (as a person), that isn't who cyclops is. He was selected to be a leader because he is a good person even if it hurts him, because he is intimately aware of his own moral failings and such. That is Cyclops. While some writers have had bouts of characterizing him like that they are bouts. That isn't the character. I'm tired of that. Brubaker did this nasty retcon right after House of M and made Xavier a bad guy, Whedon had Cyclops get a little angsty and show some balls and also made xavier a bad guy so now everyone wants to play this up. It's getting a little old in my mind.

Quicksilver was an a-hole long before Peter David got his hands on him.

True but I liked David's take on the a-hole.

I remember Havok was leading X-Factor at the time, and Jae Lee was doing that art. I don't remember who was writing it.

Jae-Lee did some X-factor art? I may have to find that for his art alone. The man rocks. Know around what issues I should check?

It was David for the majority of the run. It was great, Val Cooper was cool, Havok was conflicted about whether he was a good leader as compared to Cyclops, Polaris was a hottie and she carried herself well, Strong Guy was a lovable idiot....It was a gem I was thankful to discover. His Madrox then was significantly different from his current Madrox though.

True, but this is more than a decade ago. The Jae lee of then is not what you are used to seeing now...

Yeah, it was good, too. There was one panel in particular where Wolverine, Gambit, Beast Pyslocke and I believe Rogue showed up to back up Havok and Lorna. I remember thinking these A-list characters providing support for B-list characters was cool as ****.
