BOUGHT/THOUGHT Jan 31st

DREAD'S BOUGHT/THOUGHT for 1/31/07: The "I tracked it down" Edition:

HUNTER/KILLER #11:
My LCS didn't get enough copies, so I went to another to snag it; getting the B & W Silvestri covers. The clerk asked me why Top Cow decided this issue was worth 3 alternate covers vs. the usual two, and danged if I knew. The best I could offer was, "maybe it's a pivotel moment in the story", and it actually is. On the run from Samantha & the H/K squad after meeting a hot girl named "Echo" who seems to have telepathy, Ellis uses his powers to escape, shags Echo in a bathroom, and then it is revealed that Echo is in fact Cassandra, the seemingly "future psychic" that Morningstar has been dealing with for years, and whose prophecies led him to secretly take over the world to avert the apocalypse. There SHOULD be some huge "gasp" from the reveal, but as Echo only showed up last issue, there wasn't enough time to connect with her. Basically, Cassandra needs Ellis because apparently the only way to starve off the apocalypse this time, and seemingly for good...is to kill Morningstar. I do wonder, though, if killing him will save the Earth "forever" as she claims, why didn't she kill him years ago? Or did she need him for some catastrophes and then only realized that he had to die later, when he became too powerful? And is she a servent or the master? Not the best comic in the world, but it's better than some other books I read (BLUE BEETLE comes to mind, and definately USM, UFF and ULT. XM for sure). Meanwhile, Samantha finds Wolf and gets his help to track Ellis down, after the guy basically steals a PS3 from some grifters. At $600 a pop, I don't blame him. There is a cool sequence where Wolf uses his powers for a chesire cat sequence, which has become rare for males to do and I liked it. But, as Wolf seems affiliated with neither Cassandra or Morningstar, just doing what he pleases (including sleeping with Sam), I wonder why Morningstar doesn't just try to kill him off. Oh, well. I hope the #12 conclusion is worth it, and I am damned tired of every issue promo having the sentence "all will be revealed". I guess since next is the conclusion, it'd have to be this time. But every issue has been solicted like that since about #9. Oh, well, a minor quibble.

This thread isn't getting enough Uncle Sam and The Freedom Fighters #7 love. Man, this has been a great series. I can even stand all the freaking political allegories and such. Great writing, great art. I hope this team isn't forgotten and shows up on other titles. Maybe Checkmate, hey they had the Shadowpact!

^The first page explaining the cosmigods was sexcellent.

Damn right it was. Its no surprise these were all Morrison ideas.

I really dig Acuña's unique style. He needs to do more stuff. Also Ms. Marvel's one Shot was a fun read, yet I have no clue why it couldn't have been told via her ongoing?

It was a nice little one shot. I dont know I seem to remember it being solicited as a bigger book though.

Acuña is great. He's doing GL #18-19.

Crap, I just might buy it.:csad: X10

And homg, Mr. Brubaker, I love you. I LOVE YOU.

It was a great week in comics really. Surprising considering there was no Superman, Batman, Spider-Man or any big books out this week. Ex Machina rocked, Blue Beetle gets better every issue, even Teen Titans was pretty good.

Yeah Teen Titans was really good. I've heard a lot of buzz about Blue Beetle, I might have to check it out. And I haven't described my love for Annihiliation #6 yet.

Here goes....Annihilation #6. First off I'm no Dread, no in depth analysis of the issue. I'm not Tropico, who writes things that actually wow you. God knows I'm no BrianWilly who can write huge essays that aren't a waste to read. No. But I can offer this to say about the finale to one of the best events in some time.

Oh my freakin god.

That's what I thought.

Thats more than enough.

Also, Ion kicked ass this week, I dont care what others have to say Tocchini's art is great in this book.

Lex Luthor is superman yo.:csad:

You know, I laugh at all those women groups and women in refrigerators type people, but damn, talk about gratuitous.

So I'm reading the earlier pages of this very spamful Bought/Thought, and wow, superdoucheman can bring the suck factor up 93% in every thread he enters.

Cause it didn't need to be drawn out into a 6 issue arc, it was perfect for a one-shot.

Um, I dont think PWNER was saying that it had to, but I agree, this could've easily just been a double sized issue, within the run.

I love how you saw the words "6 issue arc" in my post, because I didn't. Thanks man.

I wasn't trying to put words in you mouth, I just added 6 issue arc on my own. IMO it was better as a one shot, thats all. Superdoucheman out.

Thanks for the compliment.:D:up: I don't do reviews that much but for a while now I've been thinking that we're quick to post about the bad stuff and very little about the good and that's why I've decided to do a lil' more of the latter. That's why I think that it's great that you posted something about a comic that you thought was awesome, the number of words isn't really important. Well done!!:D

I love how you talk crap about me, when I haven't done a damn thing to you.

Okay, so Bought:

Ion #10
Chronicles of Wormwood #1
52 Week 39
The Walking Dead 34
JLA Classified #33
Ultimate Fantastic Four 38
Annihilation 6
Uncle Sam and the Freedom Fighters #7
Batman and the Mad Monk #6
Infiniteens #2

Thought:

Ion 10 - Good ish. Great art. Captain Atom and Demonites. Kickass. I also was pleased to see the inclusion of the Bleed. A little Wildstorm creation that i've theorized should be used by all comic companies. The Bleed is the space between realities. All they have to do is add in the snowflake theory and I can begin the proceeding for my lawsuit. :) 4 out of 5

Chronicles of Wormwood 1- Okay, so if you haven't had enough of Ennis' religion bashing from Preacher, then this is the book for you. Wormwood is about the son of Satan. He's the Antichrist, only problem is, he doesn't wanna do the whole evil, end of days thing. He owns a cable station, and is best friends with Jesus (who is Black I might add. Bout time they got it right.) Add in a talking Bunny who likes to troll the Star Wars fan sites, and a booty call with Joan of Arc and you got one hell of a book. PICK THIS UP RIGHT NOW. 5 out of 5

52 w/39 - Good stuff as always. Everyman is one creepy sonofab***h. But with a name like Hannibal, what do you expect? 4 out of 5

The Walking Dead 34 -Oh man, what an ending. I was left saying pretty much the same thing Rick was saying. "Oh God...Oh God no..." Jesus, can these motha f**kas ever catch a break? Loved the end too. Good to see that that guy and his kid from the beginning of the series are still alive. Beautiful scene. 5 out of 5. (as always. Walking Dead rocks, and if you aren't picking it up you should totally start.)

JLA Classified 33 - Second issue of Dan Slott's run on the book. Okay. Nothing spectacular. 2 out of 5.

UFF 38 - End to the whole Thanos thing. Good ish. Really dug that Everywhere Man thing. That's just a kickass power. Ferry's art, amazing once again. Really dug this whole arc. Don't care what anybody says, Carey rocks. 4 out of 5

Annihilation 6 - What is there to say? "Herald My RAGE" HAH. Don't f**k with the big G. 5 out of 5 and I'd like to thank Giffen, Divito, and anybody else involved with this event for putting together one of my all time favorite minis. Great book.

Uncle Sam and the Freedom Fighters 7 - RAY's back!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The real Ray not that fake ass bastard too. Great ish. Can't wait for the last one. 5 out of 5

Annihilation is one of those things that helped me keep the faith with Marvel.

Yeah, really one of the best events i've had the pleasure of reading. Can't wait to pick up Nova's book when it comes out.
