Daredevil 97 - Brubaker is good at writing Matt's internal monologue, and thats fortunate since we don't get much info from any other characters in this issue. I like the Gladiator as a villain, love the concept, but this time it feels different, and it's meant to. Potter is not in control of himself, but it's not really the gladiator personality either. I also am interested to see how the Lilly character plays out. Also, is it just me, or does it seem like Bru doesn't like Milla? He's always reminding us that Matt loves Karen and putting her in terrible situations.

Due to Memorial Day, I won't get any comics until tomorrow, which is also when I graduate from college. So, it will be a busy day and if I don't get a review up for a while, that's why. Thanks for the kickoff, Zaptoitnow.

Hmm....do I want to buy books today on the off chance a store in my area has them? If I do that, I'm not buying the same books on my pull list tomorrow, and that screws my regular retailer.

Basically, am I an ***hole or not?

Some stores may get them in, some subscriptions may ship early, and plus, Memorial Day is an American holiday and people who live outside of America may also get their comics today (such as people in Canada or the U.K. or where ever). It all depends.

It's a small week for me anyway, think I am only getting 3 books.

Milla sucks, I hope Melvin kills her, all she does is complain anyways

I liked Milla during Bendis' run. It would be a shame if Bru just put a perfectly good character to waste. A good writer should be able to work effectively with characers they don't like.

I agree. It is so bloody rare in comics for writers to actually create NEW supporting characters with as much vigor as the classics were created to replace those who have died. Spider-Man has languished because of this inability and I was glad Bendis tried to correct that for Daredevil. It would be a shame to lose Milla.

You're absolutely right.

I've defended JMS for a long time, but looking back, he could have done so much more for the character of Spider-Man. How much better would JMS' run have been if he gave Spidey a supporting cast within the school?

With this whole Civil War recovery thing going on, I'd love to see new characters and stuff come about support wise, since this was meant to be some fresh new start or whatever for the Marvel Universe. To that point, I'd like to place an emphasis on "fresh" as old characters are not that.

I've defended JMS for a long time, but looking back, he could have done so much more for the character of Spider-Man. How much better would JMS' run have been if he gave Spidey a supporting cast within the school?

Better than focusing on totems and retcons, that is for sure. On the plus side, he did well with May and MJ. On the downside, he pooched the potential of that teaching job and everyone else followed suit, because Peter's entire cast was MJ or May. Then he became an Avenger and unmasked and that compounded the problem.

Slott is his only hope in that regard.

Daredevil #97 - Great issue. Potter's gone nuts. Killing people, taking it to Murdock right in full view of the public. Good stuff. Somebody is obviously manipulating Melvin though, and my moneys on Purple Man. Rating: Freakin' Sweet!

X-Men #199 - The arc comes to a close. Cables got super powers again. But only for a short time. Again. The things about to take out everybody when Cable manages to wake up a far more powered up Rogue to deal with the thing ripping Cable's island apart. In the process she absorbs all the minds the thing had absorbed. We're talking billions. Then we get a really cool showing of Iceman and Cannon Ball kicking ass. Sabertooth is lose again, and Mystique made out with Bobby. All in all a good ish with great art from Bachalo. The guys really getting back to being a good artist. I give it a rating of Sweet

I love Bachalo and I've been having some nostalgic feelings for X-Men comics lately....I hear that Carey's doing some cool stuff, but I don't know if I want to plunk down the change and get the back issues....In your opinion, would it be worth it?

Does the prospect of Iceman and Mistique getting naked in various shades of blue all over the page in front of you not excite you in the neither regions? Does Bachalo, in fact, not suck? Basically, it's the actual team that keeps me away. I have no interest in Sabretooth, Cable or Mystique. And I certain have no interest in seeing Iceman with Mystique. Something about that is just not right. It's also hard for me to accept Rogue as a leader. Of the group, wouldn't Cable be the most suited?

I dunno...If I can snag a good deal on Ebay, I might give it a shot. Either that, or I'll see if my flea market guy wants to give me a rad deal....
