Rise of the Silver Surfer BOX OFFICE Discussion

Extremely racy for the times.....I saw an interview with her talking about it not too many years ago...........the crack down was pretty much because of her....lol

Yes, me thinks I saw that too.

There's also a story about how Weissmuller basically attacked Esther Williams on the set of one of her water pictures. Was in her autobiography. She says the loincloth wasn't quite enough to contain the king of the jungle.

Aw, I love Esther Williams.....as a kid I would watch the reruns of all of her movies and try to do the same dives she did at the swimming pool.....she's still a beautiful lady.....has the same smile. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0930565/

^ You would have to be a complete idiot to believe anyone that says Spider-Man 4 is the last film in the franchise. Just as much as Superman: The Quest for Peace and Batman and Robin were the last of their franchises. Jourmugand it just takes a quick search under your name to show your posts are generally subtle pieces of bait and nothing more. It's like you ask sarcastic rhetorical questions daily. Get a grip.

You should be the one who gets a grip and comes to reality. You supported Ghost Rider, that was a failure. You now support FF2,when its a failure.Believe it or not, there are some who like the actors in the current film..and might not see another film if those actors are not there.Someone has to say the truth, and bring basterds like you down to earth. The numbers dont lie,if you dont believe me..check it for yourself. It could have been more, but it was not.Simple as that.:trans:

Friday numbers from Deadline Hollywood:

$ 12.4 mil for Chuck and Larry, $ 11 mil for Hairspray, $ 10.4 mil for HP 5, and $ 5.9 mil for TF.

So about 25/30 mill for H.p. this weekend?

Wow... Hairspray did that good?

Saturdays generally see a bump in B.O. numbers, with Sunday usually ending up just slightly lower than Friday. It all depends on the movie, but that is the generaly trend for overall weekend box office performance. If those numbers are accurate, Harry Potter probably be between $32-36 million.

Second weekend internal multipliers are generally higher than opening weekend ones, so HP 5 should make about $ 34-35 mil.

She was great. Lifelong practicioner of good health. Evidently Johnny thought she was beautiful too. I won't go into detail here all she had to say about him or the experience.

Ghost Rider was the first film of the year to break 100 million. Last I heard, it had made a profit.
FF2 had a decent opening weekend (higher than FF1 by a smidge) but had dramatic drop-offs in subsequent weekends - just like the bigger releases such as Spidey 3, POTC3 and TF. The box office totals are much higher on those films (and they will obviously make far more money) but the dramatic drop-offs on subsequent weekends are almost identical by percentage. The big drop-offs are a growing trend, one that concerns all the studios right now.
Every sequel this year has made less than its predecessor.
Why would FF2 be any different?

FF2 will make a profit, if only a modest one. But it is not a box office "failure."
Say it all you want; it doesn't make it true.

Someone has to say the truth, and bring basterds like you down to earth.

Misspelling "bastard." That's just hilarious.

Aww, that little toy robot head just gets cuter every time you use it. :whatever:
No obvious agenda here. Nahh.

Hey, I think I'll go find a "Nancy Drew" forum and dump on that film every day; make those fans feel bad. Yeah, I'll be a big man then.

Jesus, don't some of you have anything better to do?
I mean what is the point?
I think it's just sad.

No #'s from showbizzdata. The're always the 1st, so I'd like to know where those #'s came from ? HP 3rd for Friday ? I don't believe it for a second. A 30 million weekend would mean a 61.1 % drop. It could well be. We'll see.

SBD has the numbers up now:

1. Chuck and Larry - $ 12.57 mil
2. Hairspray - $ 10.97 mil
3. HP 5 - $ 10.3 mil
4. TF - $ 6.04 mil

HP down 60 % from last Friday. Looks like the 2nd weekend sequel drops will continue.

Mike Henry. Was he the guy who played the dim-wit son in Smoky & the Bandit?

Yeah...that was one of his roles. He was in several John Wayne movies, "The Longest Yard" (Burt Reynolds version).....in his Tarzan movies, he always started out in the city in a suit....then wound up in the jungle on a mission (like in a lot of the actual Tarzan books).

All those kids were in line for the new book instead of at the movies......let them read the book, then they'll be back in droves to the movie.........I think.........

It doesn't matter if Harry Potter has a 60% dropoff this weekend. It's already made over $185 million in the US, and almost $200 million overseas. It will definitely cross over the $200 million mark this weekend, and more than likely surpass the BO take of the last Potter movie to be released over the summer.

None of this still has anything to do with the disappointing BO of FF2 though.

That's what my sister said. She was more excited for the book than the movie because she already knew what it was about. She said she'd get around to it.

I really think thats the reason for the low # for the movie......the lines around here were unbelievable.....at Wal-Mart good lord.....it was nuts.....I mean absolutely crazy.....they couldn't open the boxes fast enough.....and Borders, and Barnes & Noble, had parties.......Kroger's has a huge display with all of the books, and plates and party favors for all the HP parties going on today........it's just crazy....but I don't care.....kids are reading and that is cool.

That is indeed a good point. Well have to see how it performs Sat, and Sun. If there's a big increase Saturday.........................

Says u. :ninja: I think many are waiting for the DVD this time, so I expect the DVD to do extremly well, and that will make up for the lax box office. It will make a profit. Not as much as the 1st, or what they expected from the 2nd, but a profit non the less.

Once again, I get the feeling that people are trying to steer the BO discussion in a way to make the movies that have performed better than the one in said thread title look worse, and prop up Rise of the Silver Surfer.

And what if it is.....does it give you physical harm to see people talk happily and good about the movie?

It seems your only purpose for being here is to rain on other people's happiness.....and it's getting old.

It upsets me when people feel the need to rag on a movie just to prop up what they feel is their movie because it didn't do so well. Or the other movie is performing better.

What happiness? Insecurity about movie BO results? I don't call that happiness or a parade IMHO.

And....it upsets me when you spend all of your time upsetting other people by constantly ragging on a movie they like. You just want to start fights....and I'm real tired of it.

I am very happy with what I saw on the screen. My happiness does not depend on what it makes at the box office. That is for the studio to worry about. It would be more exciting to talk about if it was doing well, but that's it. Box office is for conversation, and bean counters. The movie is for the fan, and public. I can seperate the 2. If some think underperformance at the box office = crappy movie, then that's their problem.

Ah,..that's cool. I caught a scene of him swimming out of a lake one morning and made a mental note of him being in the role.

Evidently he was in the running for the Ron Ely part on the TV show and also tried out (along with Lyle Waggoner (I would, by the way, love to see Waggoner's screen test---they need to quit messing around and put out those DVD's. That'd be a great extras on it)) for Batman.
