^Why would you think it won't? You have less evidence that FF3 will do less than FF2 than people who think FF3 will do better than the previous. This movie was loads better than FF1...everybody agrees with that. So FF3 more than likley will be better than FF2...I don't care if it doesn't make half a billion worldwide...as long as the movie is good. Story needs to heed some advice if he wants to continue to have the quality of these films rise. He reads these boards...maybe he will see some complaints.

I was definetly hoping this movie would do better, but it still is doing well enough. When I started to really think about it, the competition for this genre this summer is through the roof, just like everyone is saying here. I too was hoping for around 170mil, but 135-140 is pretty darn good. I still think it will come close or beat the ww total of FF1.
If the Moviehole rumor has any truth to it, I hope they bring in the Inhumans for FF3. I have been reading Essential FF since seing ROTSS and had forgotten what a large role the Inhumans played in the series. I think they could bring in Crystal as a love interest for Johnny along with Black Bolt, Medusa, Gorgon and Karnak. Other than Gorgon and Medusas hair, the CG work would be minimal for the Inhumans, especially if you leave out Triton and Lockjaw. After reading those old issues I really want to see Black Bolt on the big screen.

Fox knows the first film fell considerably short of a lot of people's expectations. Surely they realize they were lucky to see such a remarkable box office under those circumstances.
This has turned out to be an under-performing summer across the board so far, for every studio and every film. Nothing has had legs like the blockbusters of summers past.
I don't think Fox is eyeing the FF warily at all. My guess is they're relieved to an extent.

What the hell are you smoking ? Can I have some ? Sounds like killer stuff. If it can make 180 to 200 before HP opens then yea. But once the fanboys have had their fill it's done. Me personally, I don't really give a dame. If it beats SM 3, I don't give a dame, but it does make for good conversation.

All movies since SM 3 have underperformed. However I see where POTC 3 is 24 million WW ahead if Sipder-Man 3. $ 904.6 to SMN 3's $ 880.2. SM 3 has done $ 546.5 overseas. POTC 3 has done $ 608.9 overseas. I look for the trend of 2nd weekend drops to continue. TF is opening Tuesday, so that will make the 2nd weekend drop of no consequence. Shows you that even they know they have to make it before HP opens. Opening 3 days early, so they have 8 days to themselfs, after that the #'s go down the tubes. I would have loved to have seen HP, and TF go head to head. Open same day. See HP rip the robots to shreads. A curse on TF. Ever since they johnny come latley, and put themselfs opening same day FF was, that sealed their doom for me.

When families are deciding what movie to go see, HP is going to win out in most cases over everything else. The appeal is so much broader than anything else out there. (i.e: girls & women want to see it, too.)

They know they better get out there and dominate while they can.

spidey-3 has already made more then spidey 2, but the other 2 are alittle behind their second installments.

What? Did you go through your whole stash when you predicted FF 2 would go over $ 220 mil domestic?

No, TF won't be as big as SM 3 and it won't be as big as HP 5, but I do think next week will give it a big enough launch to get it over $ 200 mil domestic and into the low to mid 200s range.

Right now SM 3 is $ 59 behind SM, and $ 33.2 behind SM 2, and hell, SM 2 was 32.5 behind Spider-Man at this same point. So FF 2 being only a few million behind FF is not too bad. And yea It will make close to 200 before HP opens. After Hp opens it's over. It appeals to noone except fanboys. Everybody will see HP. So TF better enjoy the ride while it lasts.

As for the May releases, WW Spidey 3 is dominating the previous installments. As for Pirates, the second did better, but I highly doubt the studios was expecting Pirates 3 to do a billion as well. To me, it ain't under performing because I expected it to do numbers like these. As for Shrek 3, it is way behind the second.

It's still behind the first FF, but it's only 7% behind where the first one was at this point. In other words... not too shabby at all, really. We gotta top $130 million domestic to be successful by the traditional measure, but I think that'll be easily done at this point.

That pretty much means it will end at the least 30 million behind Spidey 2.......BUT lmao..........................as a FF fan, I would LOVE to be looking at that Domestic as a WW total for FF 2. So seeing something underperforming once you've gone past 250 million domestically, IMO, is silly....

I will say this...whatever Sony is doing to market over seas - perhaps Fox could learn something. Seems like Spider-Man is killing. Better over there than the first 2. Seems like FF could have benefited from that approach.
