Rise of the Silver Surfer BOX OFFICE Discussion

^It was a better, and more entertaining movie (though not much better than the FF EE) but it was still just average. This is why it erks me so much, another 30 mins added to the movie, and a bit imagination and daring, this movie could have been competing with the best IMO.

I think that they underestimated people knowing what galactus was supposed to look like for one thing. my daughter is only 12 and not a F4 fan, but even she knew what he was supposed to look like.( from a video game mostly) she was like, huh??? when Galactus was at the end of the film.

Well yeah, there are bound to be a lot of people out there who caught the cartoons as kids as well.

I also think the summer was to overcrowed. That had to hurt it at least a little.

Galactus wasn't really shown in the film. He was just a presence. The cloud was not Galactus as already explained by the writers and producers.

I understand that, but for the public that hadnt been keeping up with the film online, they didnt know that.
Dont get me wrong here, I liked the film myself.

Galactus was in there though, you could see the shadow of his helmet at least twice in the movie.

Exactly.

well, it doesnt matter now. lets just hope we get full blown galactus in the surfer film.

I think we will, because Galactus has to be a character in the Surfer movie. In this movie he only had to be a force, i.e. there was really no interaction with Galactus as a character.

You said it man. A little more daring, a clearer vision, a little more respect. That is what you keep hearing, just a little more of something and this film could have been great.

And now the question is, is it too late for this franchise to be just that, GREAT. Sadly I can't think of anything they can do to re-energize the fan base and generate huge buzz for this movie.

I hate to say it believing that Fox is mostly to blame but like LS said more and more I am thinking that the Studio may pull a Spielberg and dump Story, making him the scapegoat and telling the fans that the new guy has free reign to implement his vision.

Perhaps AD the fact that it had to be explained by the writers and the producers is and was the problem.

Think about it. If they are aiming this at kids do you think that they know who the writers and producers are, or have ever read anything they said, come on. The hardcore fanboys are the ones who follow their every word and look what most of us think of the handling of Galactus.

Why do you think that they tried to shut down Memflix or whatever his name was, what a disaster, the minute they made the decision to show a cloud for 5 minutes in the film and a fiery presence for 0.0000000000001 seconds they were cooked.

Geez how could they not see this coming, I tell you I am beginning to understand the Xmen:TLS outcry, I liked that movie but never followed the hype in the forums until afterwards when many seemed to have felt deceived.

I feel kind of deceived/disappointed myself over the handling of Galactus and I hate it. The first time I saw the movie I must have blinked cause in my review I said I never saw the fiery manifestation, only on the second viewing when I kept my eyes open the whole time, lol :cwink: did I catch it and had to go and edit the review I did. How ridiculous is that?

Yeah, I'll be surprised if it crosses 300 million. It has competition in those markets that will probably lower the take in those regions......so I'm looking at $285 million.

Really, that is good news, it should make about 70 million at least then given what I have been hearing about the overseas take exceeding the previous' films.

So assuming that over the run of the film the current territories bring in say a total of another 5 million then we are not really that far off 312 million total needed for a 2.4 multiplier.

No not really......I will be more than happy to say.....dang, I was totally wrong.....IN FACT, I hope I have to.....that would be great.....its not going to make more than the first, that is obvious....so I'm not going to say making more than my speculation would be AWESOME.....what would have been awesome was it hitting 400 million which it had the potential to do........my opinion of the movie still stands strong.....I LOVED IT.....I'll probably see again a couple of times before it leaves.....the thing is.....the first got to 330 million and stayed in theatres here from July to December....it was still in a couple of theatres the week that it came out on DVD......this one is already being pulled out.....here in Houston it probably still has 3 weeks in the regular theatres, and another 3 to 4 weeks in the $ movies.....that is not even going to come close to what the first movie had as far as a solid run in the theatres.....I LOVED THE MOVIE......even with its problems......I'm also a realist.....so I guess you could call me a realistic half full optimist.....:cwink: Dp I think it is going to get a sequel in 2009, no.....................but if next week we find out that it is......I will quote this post, and say how happy I am that I was wrong.......but I'm not holding my breath.

^^ I can't argue with anything you said, I am trying to be optimistic in the midst of being angry at Fox.

I thought the movie was ok and I liked it a lot, I am really not that hard to please but when I sit and consider how well this movie could have done, if they had done the Coming of Galactus storyline and gotten the hardcore fans behind it given the awesome buzz they had when the teaser came out, I too am not as optimistic as I could have been.

My main problem is that I think all that we are seeing now could have been anticipated and the fact that Fox took this chance with this franchise and the deceptiveness involved tells me that the number crunchers are too involved.

The creative people tend to understand the aesthetics of their craft more than the number crunchers whose decisions are heavily influenced by the bottom line.

When there is an imbalance bad things happen, it seems like Fox has a 70/30 split on the creative decisions.

The Xmen writers said they lost all their battles on the second half of the script.

That tells us something about what may have fueled the scope of this movie.

Eragon felt the same way. The concepts are good but Fox does not seem to know how to create a really stunning epic movie.

That is truly sad for the FF.

I was at the gym yesterday when I had that stubborn feeling I get when I see something very clearly and think I'm right. I thought to myself..."how cool would it have been to really see Galactus come down to Earth in physical form?" I read several reviews saying there was no real feeling of anxiety as far as the Earth being destroyed. Whether some think it would have been silly or not....I think a giant spaceman would have given some sense of urgency and drama to our heroes plight. Maybe that's what would have put the movie over as far as word of mouth goes. Maybe we'd all be feeling better right now about chances of a next movie.

Well, all I know is right now Sony is already having meetings and is projecting to release Spidey 4 in 2010 and I´m not hearing a peep about FF3.

I missed a lot of things... A feeling of anxiety on the world population, Galactus landing on Earth, people staring at him scared, his motivation being questioned, all his personal justification, "I´m not evil, just hungry", the "someday Galactus will give much more to the Universe in return" thing.

I don't think so. I can see them ignoring it completely and having a movie that has nothing to do with that. I think they are, or can be, that clueless. I can see them having Surfer flying around saving little furry creatures (for the kiddie factor again) and talking about conservation and recycling or something like that. They'll place him on a tropical planet and give him flip flops and a flowery shirt. It'll be like a Saturday morning cartoon in the 70's and they'll add some dopey periferal character like Bat Mite

Hahahahahhahhahah

Yeah Galactus always talks that crap about "Do you have remorse when you eat a chicken, its a living thing but its your food."

Or "why should I confine myself to barren and lifeless, tasteless planets, Why don't you all become vegetarians. Why cause you love the fresh vibrant taste of well cooked sirloin, and yet you deny me the pleasure and succulent energy that can only be gotten from organic entities such as the always delicious humanoid species I crave.

Come on surely you can understand my desire to see if you guys taste as good as skrulls."

And don't give me the its inhuman, you think I don't know some of you dabbled in what do you call it, canibbalism a while back. At least I am not eating my own kind, you guys are less than ants to me.

And finally:

"Its nothing personal but the purpose of Galactus must be fulfilled, I do this not for myself but for the greater good and so for Galactus to live a planet must die."

Haahhahhah, that Galactus, he is one sick dude.
