Another good point. The movies in bold weren't F42's main competition. Die Hard and Evan Almighty were. Die Hard won't make $150 million, and Evan Almight will barely clear $100 million. To me, that's not very stiff competition. FF2 dropped 67% in it's second weekend against movies that will not gross $200 million. By it's third weekend it was already under $10 million. At that point, F42 wasn't yet competing with Transformers, Potter, License to Wed, The Simpsons, or Bourne Ultimatum. So to say competition hurt F42 is somewhat of an exaggeration and poor excuse as to why the film didn't do well.
It's huge dropoff came off it's second weekend before all that "stiff competition."
Evan Almighty which everyone thought was going to bomb (and pretty much did) still over took FF 2.

The competition was a hell of a lot more fierce, and doing 130 dispite that is good. Release this film another time of the year, and it would do as well if not better than the 1st. Right movie, better movie, wrong release time. It's not a summertime block buster franchise, and Marvel, or Fox had better realise that.
