In the draft I read Doom's real name is Victor Obrecht.

The France Draft?????? hmmm....in the draft I have it was van damme....and he was, for me, the weakest part of the script......but the other STRONG PROBLEM was that Sue totally sounded like the scientist...I haven't read the draft in years....I still actually have it somewhere.

Well remenber she was the head of Victor's bio research. Sounds pretty brainy to me. :woot:

It should break the 300 million barrier by the end of the month with the money i expect it to make in China and Japan.

That would be awesome, but with 27 million to go, I don't see that happening....it didn't even make half that amount between the 2 the first time around...

Are they letting it play in China after all? I thought it was rejected, in their usual arbitrary way.

The first one played in China, why not the second?

Here's a little trivia for the 1st movie from IMBD. All questions are hindsight questions.

Chris Columbus, Raja Gosnell and Peyton Reed were each attached as director at some point.

Question 1. Do you think they could have done any better, and who ?

Steven Soderbergh and Sean Astin were both interested in directing.

Question 2. Could either done better, and who ?

George Clooney and Brendan Fraser were considered for the part of Reed Richards.

Question 3. Better Reed or worse, and who ?

Paul Walker was considered for the part of Johnny Storm.

Question 4. Better Johnny, or worse ?

Julia Stiles, Kate Bosworth, Rachel McAdams, Scarlett Johansson, Elizabeth Banks, KaDee Strickland were considered for the role of Susan Storm/Invisible Woman.

Question 5. Better or worse, and who ?

Tim Robbins was considered for Dr. Doom.

Question 6. Better or worse Dr. Doom.

James Gandolfini was considered for the role of Ben Grimm/The Thing.

Question 7. Better or worse Thing/Ben Grimm ?

When Peyton Reed was attached as the director, Renée Zellweger was considered as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman

Question 8. Better or worse Sue Storm ?

The script was developed for over ten years. The final writer was Simon Kinberg, who worked on the movie throughout its production.

The film would’ve been a smashing hit if they had:

a) Put Clooney & Theron as Mr. Fantastic & Invisible Woman (Evans is good, but Paul Walker could do a very good Johnny as well, and Chiklis is an obvious choice for the Thing);
b) Put Daniel Day-Lewis as Doom;
c) Have ANY decent writer who could use some John Byrne material in it;
d) Columbus or another imaginative director to shoot it.

But no: they went for that crappy void flick with one-liners, Story & childish script. :whatever:

Wednesdays #'s are in. Foreign #'s thru Srpt 4th.

FF 2 :
Domestic: $131,610,590 47.5%+ Foreign: $145,553,682 52.5%= Worldwide: $277,164,272

No! Not Columbus, pleasssssssse........

I'll agree with the John Byrne material. I argue his Doom portrayal is the best we've seen or will ever see, including Lee/Kirby's...

You're right, it didn't. But the movie is still playing in many countries other than Japan and China and will probably do so for a few more weeks(one theater here will have the last FF2 showings next week).So i think when all the final totals are added up it will hit 300 million or at least come very very close before the dvd hits.

It was scheduled to open there this past weekend.
The release dates for China has been changed to October 31st according to BOM!!:wow:

The International #'s have dried up though in all the other markets to less than 2 million for the weekends. Those will be down in all of those markets each week. I don't see Japan making 20 million. The movie is all over the freaking net. I hate movie pirates.:)

It did 9 million last time around there but yeah i think piracy will hurt BO. But that's something that has hurt most movies in the last few years not just FF2.:o

^ I know that Retro but we're talking about FF2 now. :) Piracy effects the big blockbuster films the most because the pirates can make the most money selling those. More in demand. It hurts all films the same when thrown online.

Yeah, but hurting a movie that makes $800,000 WW and one that can barely make it to $300,000 is alittle different.:o

It's all lost revenue no matter which way you look at it. If a movie is struggling to make a profit of course it hurts worse.

By looking into my little glass ball, if they make a sequel... I see....I see a much lower budget and WETA's name shall not be attached this time.

But guess what...it may prompt the filmmaker's to be...*GASP*...CREATIVE!

Around the World Roundup: 'Shrek' Reclaims Throne
by Conor Bresnan
September 6, 2007

Reclaiming the top spot after an eight week absence, Shrek the Third grabbed $17.9 million from 23 territories over the weekend, lifting its total to $436.5 million. The animated comedy had fantastic debuts across the board with its largest sum arising from Italy. Grossing $10.8 million from 305 screens there, it more than doubled Shrek 2. Shrek the Third also bested the openings of its predecessors in Norway ($2 million from 104), Sweden ($1.5 million from 144), Denmark ($2 million from 86) and Finland ($596,945 from 55) and, in Bulgaria, it more than tripled its predecessors with $62,487 from 12 screens. With Greece still ahead, Shrek the Third has an excellent chance as exceeding Shrek 2's $478.6 million final gross.

In second place, The Bourne Ultimatum earned $14.7 million from 30 countries for a $76.1 million total. The action thriller opened in Australia to a massive $5.1 million, besting both of the previous movies, and it debuted to $124,024 in Peru and $43,046 in Croatia. Even if Ultimatum didn't open in another market, it would pass the final tally of The Bourne Identity this weekend and would top The Bourne Supremacy in the near future, but it still has half the world to go.

Ratatouille placed third with $10.6 million from 33 territories for a $190.5 million total. The animated comedy had no major openings and continued to rely on holdovers like France, where it has led the entire month of August and grossed another $4.5 million in its fifth weekend for a $51.8 million total, surpassing Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. In The Netherlands, Ratatouille rose 37 percent to claim the lead in its fifth week of release with $407,641 for a $4 million total.

The Simpsons Movie snagged fourth place with $7.6 million from 33 territories for a $302.6 million total. The cartoon comedy opened in second in Greece with a sturdy $371,406 from 73 screens. Meanwhile, it continued to excel in the United Kingdom, grossing $1.3 million in its sixth week of release, off just two percent for a staggering $75.7 million total. The movie's next release is Italy on Sept. 14 and it's scheduled to wrap its international campaign on Dec. 22 in Japan.

Rounding out the Top Five, Rush Hour 3 bagged $7.3 million from 23 nations for a $53 million total. The action comedy has shown surprising legs overseas, falling just 13 percent in Austria, 22 percent in Germany and 33 percent in Japan. On top of that, in Mexico, it recorded a top-ranked $1.1 million opening from 321 screens, beating its predecessors.
