Rise of the Silver Surfer BOX OFFICE Discussion

how do we find out how good it's doing on DVD sales?

I just keep checking amazon... Regular and special edition DVD versions are on the top 25 best DVD sellers.

Doesn't seem like blu-ray is doing all that good.

Huh? Blue Ray has been #1 seller for 13 days straight. Here's the link: http://www.amazon.com/b/ref=amb_lin...GWF&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=315128101&pf_rd_i=130

There has been some loading problems in some regions but it's still blowing away the competition...at least on amazon. It's selling quite well as a regular DVD too. Got up to #3 for a few hours, stayed at #4 for two days and it's in the top 5 still.

No I'm talking about the overall list...

This one right here > http://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/dvd/ref=sv_d_3/103-3429837-0851842

If your talking about blu-ray vs blu-ray alone then.. yeah.

Domestic total is final total. Looks like the 4 who said between 130-140 were dead on.

I can't believe I thought this would make more than the original....I though 175 domestically.

Carp Man, hit me over the head for being so foolish. :o

btw, how you been old man?

Thank god that was the last BO number, this has been like watching paint dry....

I was one of the ones who steped out on a limb and said 220 or more. :wow: But relisticly I thought it would do better then the 154 the 1st one made. I really thought 170 to 180. Too much of a hangover from the 1st one for the 2nd one to overcome. DVD has done well, which I thought it would. I really felt many were waiting for the DVD. I'm doing great. Still speaking out. Still getting into trouble. :woot: Just can't keep my mouth shut. :wow:

I thought for sure 175+ domestic. The PG rating really did turn people away, the bad taste from film #1, and the competition & piracy. This hurts everyone though.

...Hmmm the pg rating (that I loved, but it made me wonder about how the movie was made), I think it was the conclusions people drew from the combination of the PG rating, the 83 minute actual run time and the first movie being tagged as kiddie litter.

The PG rating and run consolidated the image of the film in the minds of some of the critics and hardcore fans and young teens and so on and so on. In trying to get the kiddie crowd they basically dumped a lot of the other fan bases.

When you can pull in multiple target audiences then you can get up over 200 million domestic ala Transformers, that is what summer movies are supposed to be about

....somebody at fox did not get that memo it seems.

And the rest .....sadly...... is now history.

Your right, and while part of me is sad we didnt get the movie we could/should, i am also partly glad, as it seems Fox is slowly learning from their mistakes as Wolverine is not being rushed in any way. It is filming soon for a May 2009 release.

So that gives me hope that we could possibly get an unrushed, good movie for both FF3 and SS.

Here's the way it breaks down for 2007 so far

Domestic :

1. Spider-Man 3
2. Shrek The Third
3. Transformers
4. POTC 3
5. Harry Potter
6. The Bourne Ultimatum
7. 300
8. Ratatouille
9. The Simpsons Movie
10. Wild Dogs
11. Knocked up
12. Rush Hour 3
13. Live Free or Die Hard
14 Fantastic Four : Rise of the Silver Surfer.

Worldwide :

1. POTC 3
2. Harry Potter
3. Spider-Man 3
4. Shrek The Third
5. Transformers
6. The Simpsons Movie
7. Ratatouille
8. 300
9. The Bourne Ultimatum
10. Live Free or Die Hard
11. Ocean's 13
12. Fantastic Four : Rise of the Silver Surfer
13. Wild Hogs
14. Rush Hour 3

Any surprises ? FF 2 14th Domestic out of 150 listed. 12th WW out of 343 listed. Not too shabby. It's a top 20 movie this year. Same as FF in 2005.

WTF ? Has it gotten to the point where you can't inject a little humor in a dead board ?
