Rise of the Silver Surfer BOX OFFICE Discussion

With the B.O. finally being in, will you guys consider this movie a success or failure?

IMO, a failure would be not making a profit. It has clearly made a profit. Did it make enough for me to call it a success? far from it.

FF 2 14th Domestic out of 150 listed. 12th WW out of 343 listed. Not too shabby. It's a top 20 movie this year. Same as FF in 2005.

Compaired to other movies out this year. I think these #'s speak for themselfs. Not many thought it would approach $ 290 WW. That's only $ 40 million below what the 1st movie made. So all you who want to call it a failure can take a long walk off a very short pier, and use your imagination on what else I could say. DVD sales have done nicley, as I predicted. So all in all, I would call it a success.

You can't call it a success if you can't spell it right.....lmao.

Congratulations...

We here at the board, do public service work. Look at it this way. He got it off his chest. Now he won't go home and beat the wife and kids, or kick the dog. :woot: That's a good thing.

Failure. And who cares about profit? I haven't received a dime.

Let it die. :oldrazz:

So with this criteria, 95% of the movies out, you think are failures. Well I guess other than the top 10?

At least someone who is really sensitive around here. Thanks, pal.:cwink:

So who thinks that FF2 has made enough for Fox to invest in an FF3? I fear that IF they do, the budget will be closer to what part 1 was, or at the most no more than part 2. I am afraid that this lack of money [and confidence on Fox's part] will help assure a smaller part 3 - and perhaps more lack luster returns.

I do not believe there will be an FF3.

The question is did it NOT make enough for Fox to be willing to throw away the valuable rights. The franchise is profitable before it goes to DVD which means there will be a sequel or spin-off so Fox can maintain the rights. There's no question about it.

NOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Don't say there won't bw a FF3!!!!!!!!

Why would you say such a thing!?

There was never a doubt in my mind. I said it as soon as it came out. $ 288 to $ 290 on a $ 130 budget, plus DVD, plus cable, plus toys, and product tie ins. There's no way it's not profitable. And like you pointed out, Fox would not throw their rights away. Writers strike is on. Get ready for reruns. :csad:

Seeing as we have literally heard NOTHING about an FF3, and very little about an SS movie, i would question whether Fox wants to take a risk on another movie. IMO FF3 and SS are in the same boat an SR sequel was recently, there are no assurances either way.

Plenty of movies have been profitable, and yet not got a sequel, or got a straight-to-dvd class one. To be honest i'm not even that keen on an FF3 at the moment, but i definately want an SS movie.
