Transformers Box Office Thread

*shrug*

Everyone has their favorites. I would have loved TF to outdo all the May movies because I was tired of the insufferable Spider-Man 3 vs. AWE posts.

Same reason why i'm getting tired of all the TF is winning over all the summer movies posts :whatever:
I don't mind if people actually make posts that sounds logical but yeah sometimes......

Hmmm...all three times I saw TF there were lots of families and children...and a cousin of mine took her little boy AND our grandmother to see it...and my grandmother actually enjoyed it (mostly because of Shia)....

*shrugs*
Different audiences i guess

writing wise, I'm not sure at all... judging from Transformers, Star Trek may be more action than story, and that's not really good for Star Trek.
While I'm more of stickler to sticking to the essence of the movie, however, don't you think this new direction may bring in more fans? Trek movies except for IV don't even break $100 million and that's what seems to drive Studios.

Personally out of all the movies I've seen this Summer, still need to see Potter, Simpsons and Bourne but TF is the most entertaining movie I've seen all summer.

I have no problem with the production team of the new star trek movie giving it more action and trying to make it hip. I just want the storyline to be good. Even though I enjoyed transformers it's obvious that the writers didn't spend too much time developing the story.

True.
TF still remains the most fun summer flick for me. In fact it ranks 2nd on my "best of '07" list , right behind 300.

This movie was just the first movie of a franchise and generally the first movie don't make a big fuzz about the storyline. Sequels always tend to expand on their stories and yeah rarely manage to get the fun of the first movie which always tend to simple.

I mean in terms of popcorn fun the first POTC movie is always the best.
Because there were so many sequels out there i can understand why TF is so succesful , aside from the fact that it's something new and exciting.

Carp-man is quite a character. Anybody who says that he'd rather have Tim Story direct a FF movie over Cameron, Lucas, Spielberg or ANYBODY because Story delivers better character development than any of those other directors is....well...let's just say he's special.

Hunter Rider has LOTS of fun with him.

Basically, everyone in the Fantatstic Four forum thought he was nuts when he said this. It's as if he purposefully says stupid things so people can get a laugh.

I also blame the quality. I thought Spider-Man and Shrek were let downs in comparison to the first 2. But, AWE and Ocean's 13 were better than their predecessors, however, considering DMC and 12, that's not saying much.

Eh i may be in the minority but i really really hated the 2nd and 3rd shrek movie.
And i found the 3rd Spiderman movie to be a better sequel in the 2nd one. Simply because i hated the OTT love crap as well as the emo whining of Peter in the 2nd one. I recently bought the 2.1 dvd and it flows much better but still there are certain things were i literally cringe . And some scenes just don't make sense .
The 3rd one was "better" because at least the love scenes were handled better even though they movie felt rushed and incomplete.

Your right about Ocean's tough. I liked 13 but they never quite gotten the charm of the 2nd movie. And i feared they would go all euro again when i saw the beginning of 13. And i'm from the netherlands :cwink:
But as the movie progressed it got better and better.

With AWE. Well , yeah it doesn't have the popcorn fun factor of the first movie. But i liked the expanded storyline and i just love great visuals done well.
But AWE is really a perfect example of complicating things. I mean i understand that they always expand the world but they REALLY EXPANDED the world for the 2nd and 3rd movies and as a result the fun factor just got lost.

That's what IMO is helping TF right now. And i just hope they don't over complicate things with the sequel.

Audiences are ******ed and don't want a good story anymore. As long as they see stunning viual effects and "stlylized action violence" they are content. But once a movie goes beyond 2 hour 30 min, they freak and say it is too long. As long as the story is good, and the extra time has a purpose, then who cares?

The current Box Office leading movie is an example of this. How Adman Sandler is still making movies is beyond me. He must have pics of someone doing something with something not human.

Agreed! Stories don't always have to be complicated to be good!

Agreed! I really hope they don't make the POTC mistake with 45 different stories going on all at once with unecessary twists and turns, That is what turned me off to the two sequels... :(

I think it is proven: People want to see Big Mudda Fudgin' Robots beating the hell out of eachother, with mild comedy coming from someone who acts like a young charming/crazy/paranoid John Ritter on Three's Company.

And Megan Fox in tight provocative clothes.

It's a saying that is usually tossed around when it is unbelievable that someone is still doing something that they should not be.

I was implying that Adam Sandler retains his acting career, with no talent whatsoever, because he is blackmailing some big-wig movie exec with pictures he took of the guy with a sheep or something. Far-fetched, yes......but anything is possible in Hollywood and rich people.

You could apply the same saying to John Travolta, Nicholas Cage, & Josh Hartnet.

I don't fully agree with that statement. If that were the case shouldn't FF2 have made more money the first movie.
SOmetimes i do wonder what the hell people are expecting when crap like Charlie's Hookers becomes succesful but then again when the sequel bombed you can sorta find peace in the fact that people aren't as ******ed as we make them out to be.

I think for a time, movies that did really well use to get the backing of critics as well. Nowadays, movies with luke warm reviews seem to do well. Are we looking at just higher ticket prices or studios choosing to cater to the "lowest common denominator" in terms of just giving the public fluff.

I happen to like Josh Hartnet. Have you seen Lucky Number Slevin? Excellent, excellent movie.

hopefully it will... Abrams said that he would stay faithful to the Star Trek universe, but that's also what Bryan Singer said about Superman, and that turned out to be a mess... so you never know.

Fantastic Four has close family ties. They focus on that aspect more than anything else. People today don't like to watch families unless they are disfuctional.

I get the whole "family" thing but that doesn't make up for tepid action scenes, a no show Galatus, a potential storyline that fizzles out, and actors in general who have no business in those roles.

Like who?

Julian Mcmahon, Jessica Alba and I really wasn't sold on Ioan Gruffudd.
