Transformers Box Office Thread

1st week of Transformers: $165 million
1st week of Spider-Man 3: $182 million
1st week of Shrek the Third: $150 million
1st week of Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End: $173

I feel like I'm starting to sound like a broke record, because I've said this over and over, but Transformers will pass up Pirates. Pirates had a HUUUUGE first 4 full days (that means not counting the Thursday evenings showing it received) and after that it died out FAST. It took Pirates 44 days after the first 4 to double it's domestic total.

I know only 15 million seperates Pirates from Shrek, but for some reason I don't think Transformers will pass up Shrek, I think it'll beat out Pirates by about 5 million or so.

Transformers will beat Harry Potter domestically, but Harry Potter will soundly beat Transformers in world wide sales.

Transformers = $308 million domestic. That's my final answer, and I'm sticking to it.

I think Transformers will have passed $210m by the end of it's second weekend.

I wish I could make a .gif of me patting myself on the back that way I can post it 2 months from now along with these quotes of mine that I made a week before Transformers was released. I think my domestic is a little low though, it'll probably be $312 million. :)

tf has fallen behind war of the worlds; which made another 100 million from this point.

Harry Potter 5 SUCKED!!! I was so dissapointed. I knew Transformers would be way better anyway but Harry Potter just was awful. My friend and I saw Harry Potter 5, at the end all the little kids clapped and stuff but me and my friend just sat there pissed off and were just like "WTF just happened??". So we snuck into Transformers after it was over to cleanse our eyes from the awful Harry Potter. So it was like we got our money back from Harry Potter and paid for Transformers.

Transformers WILL prevail over Harry Potter 5

Well Monday is $9,927,640, Tuesday is $8,253,776 and Wednesday is $7,003,058.

considering that was Harry Potter's release date...that's pretty steady! i hope it keeps that momentum. i know i'll be helping it out a bit this weekend...

You are misinformed. If you look at the release dates for foreign regions, you'll see Transformers was scattered between 6/28, and 7/6, with most releases being 7/4 and the biggest foreign markets yet to even release the movie (Japan, Mexico, England, and France). War of the Worlds, for the most part, was released globally at the same time or within a very, very close time frame.

Sooo what are you talking about???

I think so, everyone i have talked to has loved this movie. It has good street buzz going and good legs so far.... We'll just have to wait and see.

During work my boss was askin' my coworker if she saw TF yet...she said no and my boss is like, "What?! How could you not?! Everyone's talking about it!" Then my other co-worker who overheard the convo yelled with, "I've already seen it twice!" and another one proclaimed, "I'm seein' it again this weekend!"

Seriously, the buzz of TF, from what i've seen...is all POSITIVE. I think it has a really great WoM. :yay:

Agreed, but not a 100 percent. HP didn't suck, but it was a let down and my least favorite out of the 5 films. I really expected it to be a step above GOF, becuase each Potter film got better then the one before it, but HP5 broke the trend. To much talking about nothing. TF is the best film of the summer, and i know HP made 44 mil on WED, but I'm not so sure it's going to beat out TF. I went tonight and the 400 plus seat theater was shockingly empty. I say about 50 people was there, while TF next door in the other AMC 400 plus seat theater was pretty full. I don't know about HP. I think when word of mouth get around it may hurt HP. I think TF is going to be the biggest hit of the Summer domestically, but HP is going to gross more internationally.

no i meant in the u.s.; on war of the worlds tuesday n wednesday, it made more than tf did. wotw made 31 million the next weekend n 100 million more total. look for a 285-290 total and around 31-32 million this weekend.

I'm not 100% sure it will make it to $300 million anymore. It's a lock for $250 million, but I just don't know about $300...

Transformer's Thursday: $6.4 million

Harry Potter: $18.4 million

TF now up to $187 million.

Looks like TF will hit the $200 mark by after Saturday's gross.

Even if Transformers dies out at $290 million, I'd still bet a paycheck it'll be more than what Potter does.

I think Transformers will still go strong at the box office, just don't know if it's going to hit 300mil. I'm probably going to see it for a third time this weekend. Then get my older sister and brother in law to see it as well for a fourth.

if it doesn't reach $300m then it should at least get very close. this is only it's 2nd week and it's almost guaranteed to reach $200m this weekend. after this weekend, it'll be in theaters for at least another month...which gives it plenty of time to get to $300m.

If one uses the 6 day opener as a reference then within what range will it end up?. With the $146,604,387, wich comparing to other movies will end up being between 40%-50% of total domestic gross? Very few movies on the list is higher then 50%, so one can pretty safe assume that it will surpass 290 million dollars domestic. Or am I missing something here?

Look at TF's gross after Monday, that'll be it's 14 day mark and you can more accurately measure it's gross against other movies since TF opened on a Tuesday and most of the other movies opened on Friday.

I think it's tought to judge this movie because

1) it opened during a holiday week
2) it opened at 8pm on a Monday
3) sequels have all underperformed this year
4) it's not a sequel

I expect it to have better legs than the sequels, so I think it's weekend drop will not be nearly as bad as Fantastic Four 2, Spidey3, or Pirates 3.
