Transformers Box Office Thread

Oh well, hopefully this teaches Dreamworks to do a near-simultaneous global release for Transformers 2! Usually that's a very effective way to deter piracy.
Aside from the fact the pirated footage would be released close to the movie release, but why watch it on a small screen when you can wait a day or so to see it in theatres.

5.9 million and declining. :woot:

Maybe next week will garner 1 or 2 million and it'll be pulled out of more theatres.

You know that TF is going to be the 3rd highest domestic movie of the Summer and year and that it's had the lowest drops as compared to SM3, Shrek 3, AWE, Potter, Simpsons?

I'm not impressed. It would be astounded if the drops weren't as sharp. 48.9%? Not great. It's a mediocre film with the benefit of a monstrous five-day opening. Without it, TINO would be looked upon as a disaster. :yay:

Uh, most of the movies had monstrous five day openings?

With without those they would be considered disasters.

Interesting interpretation; nevertheless, I'm celebrating the imminent collapse of TINO. :woot:

600 millions in the bank Worldwide and counting and 90% of the fans and the general audience pleased with the movie...yep i think your hatred for the movie will be the deciding factor for not making TF 2,Bay is running from you in his nightmares.:o :whatever:

TF is going to end up at the top 20 of US all time box office. Pretty impressive.

If 90% of the fans are pleased with the film, why the significant drop-offs? I'm probably just one of the more vocal true fans of Generation 1 who is not afraid to voice my magnitudinous displeasure over TINO. The film's been out for a little over a month, and the best it can muster is 5.9. I'm aware that my extreme dislike over the film is not the deciding factor over a sequel to the mediocre live-action version of TF.

I've actually enjoyed some of Michael Bay's films. For example, I enjoyed the Rock and Armageddon much more than Transformers. But Transformers was not a great film. It has flashes of greatness, but it failed enormously in so many ways.

By the way, the film could have made 5 billion worldwide and I'd still have the same opinion.

5 billion. I think that's too high of an expectation, considering many critics labels this show as just another "kiddie toy show" or a 2 hr commercial show-something not to be taken seriously. Face it, TF doesn't have too many fans, but the BO numbers showed that it garnered a lot of following. This movie is the best thing that could ever happen to this "Franchise." 600 million and counting is not to be mocked at. Not at all.

Well i'm not trying to change your oppinion but you cant state that the movie is bad like a fact, cause you're in the minority that's all i'm trying to say,you dont like it and i respect your oppinion so it would be nice if you do the same ;)...i have watched and rewatched G1 for 18 years now and i simply adore the movie...every wound that Spider-Man 3 caused(even though i liked it) Tf healed and then some,i dont remember when was the last time i was so satisfied with something that i have been awaiting for so long.

LOL I dont think he expected 5 billions cause the most grossing movie ever Titanic had 1.8 billions...he was saying that even if it did that it woudnt change his mind...

P.S you have no idea how wrong you are about the bold text buddy...by that logic Batman and Superman have half the fans Tf has looking at their box-office numbers...

Good for you. I respect your opinion. However, can you explain to me how SM3 caused some wounds and TF didn't bring deeper wounds? Thanks.

Well i wanted SP3 to be a serious( not too much but still) movie in which Venom will shine,Sandman will shine, the black costume story would be explored and Venom will be THE villain that kids would adore and would be their (anti)hero a comic book Darth Vader....and what do i got?

Sandman killed Uncle Ben,Peter having the silliest i'm-a-bad-boy scene ever(the one when he adjusted his hair)a love triangle without a the love part, the cheesy dance scenes and etc.etc.etcbut still i like it,7/10

And for TF the thing i was hopping to see the most was a combination of the light-heartedness of the first 2 seasons, the humor...and the mindblowing action scenes and sequences and for me it delivered as much as i expected and after SP3 i was ready to be dissapointed again but i was delighted...the only thing that if i may change/add was a little more characterisation of the TF but otherwise a clear 9.5/10 for me,it made me feel like a kid again and i would be so much happy if i have the same feeling for at least 1 movie in every five years(if you look at my avatar you willl know whch movie i anticipate the most from 2008 :D:D)

It's not an interpretation that, when you compare the top 5 grossing movies of the year Transformers had the second best legs among them, losing only to Shrek.

If 90% of the fans are pleased with the film, why the significant drop-offs?

EVERY blockbuster film this summer has had "significant drop offs"...its just the nature of the beast due to the increased competition.

But when compared to most blockbusters this summer, TF holdovers week-to-week have actually been rather impressive.

Not to mention the fact that almost $600 million for a first movie in the franchise is pretty damn amazing.

Especially for TF. It has only been around 20 years. Comics have been around for 30-40.

No...I mean comic book movies. Comics have been around for 40-40 years with Marvel, and DC has been around 60-70 years. So for TF to be this popular is an accomplishment.

Yes, indeed. Before the movie, TF is "nothing". After the movie, it's up there among the top grossing films.
