Quantumania BoX Office Thread $

Why? Nothing inherently wrong with the character.
Because there are other ips that are taking forever to get a sequel or even their own film (X-Men).

Why are some people still acting like the MCU is being made with a "trilogy" mindset? It's obvious they don't think "3" is some magic special number.
Its not a mindset. Its not even about "3". If Ant-Man is only sharing a cinematic universe with Thor then both of them should get solo movie #4, 5, 6 and so on.

Do you really want people to wait forever for a X-Men 2 or Fantastic 4 2 because Ant-Man 4, Ant-Man 5, Thor 5 and Thor 6 have to be made first. I don't.

They got their chance and their last movie is the worst in their respective solo films, imo. That being said I look forward to Avengers 7 8 and 9.

2nd Monday comparison:

AM&TW - 3.5M
Ant-Man - 3.3M
Quantunmania - 1.7M
Eternals- 1.7M

After this date Eternals in its BO run, it scored only 45M and finished off with a domestic total of 167M. If the same logic applies to Quantumania then we’re looking at a final domestic total of 214M, under those 216M from AM&TW.

Schools are on at the minute though, so week days are kind of a dead zone.

I thought AM&TW made more than that domestically. I think Ant-Man will be a support player moving forward. They basically used this as an excuse to properly kick-start the KANG stuff anyway.

Okay, some fairer comparisons.

Deadpool: $4.4
Ghost Rider: $1.1
Sonic the Hedgehog: $1.2

At this rate i think Quantumania's 3rd weekend will be around 16M. AM&TW was 16.5M.

More or less same number as Eternals, which was released when the country was still grappling with COVID outbreak and restrictions.

Good lord, that's pretty cataclysmic for a second Monday on a film that drew over a 100 million on opening weekend.

There must be some panic setting in at Disney. This movie was supposed to introduce the big bad for this entire phase of the MCU, and it's whiffed this badly?

Bad when a MCU film is pretty much level with Cocaine Bear already.

Its bad but I would worry more if this happening to the reboot of Fantastic 4, Blade and X-Men.

Ant-Man got his trilogy, time to move on to other ips.

Blade doesn't belong in the same grouping as FF and X-Men. Arguably Blade is comparable to Ant-Man, successful but not on the same tier as the biggest blockbusters of its era.

Fantastic 4 haven't had a movie as successful as the Ant-Man films though.

The first Fantastic Four film was 11th in worldwide box office which basically matches the best performance of the Ant-Man films. They're comparable and I think the general consensus is that FF has greater potential.

Not really. The first two Ant-Man films both hit the $500 million mark worldwide. Which a Fantastic 4 film haven't achieved yet.

The 2005 film did fine, however the 2007 film underperformed and thats why it didn't get a sequel. The 2015 flopped hard. You should take those losses in consideration. Ant-Man haven't flopped hard yet. So imo the 2025 movie have to be really good and marketed very well for the audience to see the 2nd film reboot. And who knows how will the neXt 6 mcu films perform at the boX office.

2nd Tuesday comparison:

AM&TW - 5.5M
Ant-Man - 4.3M
Quantumania - 2.5M
Eternals - 2.1M

It could very well struggle to surpass 200M domestic… that should be the absolute worst case scenario but maybe it finishes of at around 205M.

Ticket price inflation, with added bonuses for IMAX and 3D, kind of covers the difference between FF and Ant-Man. The first FF likely had higher attendance. But I agree, FF is no slam dunk. The latter two films prove that people will stay away if perceived that an FF film isn't up to snuff.

That said, I think an FF film perceived as actually very good has a higher ceiling.

Again how is it comparable to Ant-Man when it hasn't flopped hard yet the way Fant4stic did. And the sequel didn't have smaller numbers the way Rise of the Silver Surfer had.

Even if we count inflation, Ant-Man 2 wasn't seen as a disappointment in 2018 unlike Rise of the Silver Surfer in 2007. There was simply no growth with Fantastic 4 when it came to boX office numbers which we can't say to Ant-Man.

So far behind the first 2 films. :csad:

Yes it will struggle to hit $200 million it continues these big drops. Oh well.

1. It's happened with X-Men before.
2. This happening to Blade would be the least of Marvel's problems.

1. It only happened to X-Men when poorly reviewed films came out. X-Men and X2 didn't drop like a rock with 69%.
2. This happening to Blade wouldn't be a good look in launching sequels but okay...

Which may come from the lack of quality of the FF films and the lack of other factors that boosted Ant-Man, like a shared universe and big events like Infinity War. Don't look now, but Ant-Man is in the midst of what may be its own bust as Quantummania is going to do worse than its previous film and might even struggle to match the first film at the worldwide box office.

We still don't know what a widely perceived as very good FF movie would do at the box office.

Lots of what ifs there.

The point is Ant-Man and the Fantastic 4 aren't in the same level, in the movies. Ant-Man was successful in 2015 and Fantastic 4 was bombing. Ant-Man got 3 films without a reboot. Fantastic 4 is getting another reboot after 3 films (4 if we count the 90s movie).

We could only say they are equal once Fantastic 4 gets a trilogy without any of the films underperforming.

As for Quantumania, it still opened over $100 million despite being front loaded.
