Boycotting Cinco de Mayo?

Mexican Food will take a patriotic turn, just like the whole French-Freedom food thing, and will now be known as "Legal Food".
Tortillas will be called Corn Flat Bread and Tacos will turn into Patriot Wrap Sandwiches.

Oh, god....I hope we don't boycott Taco Bell. I need a Grilled Stuft Burrito. Seriously.

furthermore reason why it's really dumb to boycott a holiday that really means nothing to you personally... doing it out of spite shows low human quality, the manifestations that took place last monday had a reason to happen, people had something valid to say about the current socio-political situation that surrounds them, their loved ones and society as a whole, specially in the places where such events took place.
to do it just out of spite and hiding behind "because if they did it, why shouldn't we?" excuses really takes away any significance you wanted to give to what was a stupid idea in the first place

get over it

Ever been to Cabo San Lucas during Spring Break? Americans galore. When my wife and I were married in Cancun, we were shocked at the number of ex-Pat's living there. It's not on the scale that Mexican natives are entering the U.S., but there's a healthy stream of Americans not just vacationing in Mexico, but moving there as well.

This post fails at being a logical reply to what I said.

Cinco de Mayo will never be St. Patrick's Day, no matter how hard these corporations try to bolster their sales by using it as a marketing tool.
they are very different holidays for very different reasons

and by the way, boycotting taco bell would be just like boycotting pizza hut if the riff was with italians instead of mexicans

some people aren't very smart, it seems

We bring money to them and don't take jobs.

You're just saying stuff that comes into your mind now, aren't you...

Did anyone see Bush's response to being asked about his opinion on the American anthem being sung in Spanish?

didn't he say he disagreed with that?
I don't see anything wrong about that, it's the american anthem, it was written in english and there's really no reason why should it be sung in spanish

it's basically a common sense issue here

That's a gross generalization. There were plenty of Americans working in places like restaurants, hotels, businesses and stores in Cancun when I was there.

Unless those americans are working for less than the minimum wage there, your point is moot.

Less than american minimum wage, maybe. Less than mexican minimum wage, impossible.

They're still taking jobs that Mexicans could have when they move down there and work for someone other than themselves. What's your point?

The same could have been said with the Canadian National Anthem. It is sung both in English and French. But it was first composed, and written in french by a french composer. It later became translated to english and became the official national anthem in 1980.

Just because it is one language is no reason why it couldn't be sung in another. To this day O Canada is sang in both languages, and that's WITHOUT the french taking over our culture and our jobs...

The only problem I have with the "Star-Spangled Banner" being sung in Spanish is that the translation that was done is awful (my wife is Dominican and she even feels it was done rather poorly and doesn't capture the true spirit of the original). And, the fact that the guy who did it is also changing the music and adding latin beats to it just makes no sense. There's no need to pimp it up like some dance number on "Bailando Por Un Sueño". It isn't even the "Star-Spangled Banner" anymore after they've gotten through with it between the lyrics that don't really reflect the English version and completely different music.

Yes, but the mexicans not having those jobs have nothing to do with unfair competition. It is merely due to the preference of the employers. The same can not be said of the illegal immigrants that hold american jobs.
