Brad Bird Directing Tomorrowland

I'm a fan of Bird so yeah it does suck. All one can do is see the film and make up their own mind.

Is it too much to ask that Brad Bird not be treated like the worst director ever because of one film by overly reactionary fans?

he is old enough to know that Lindelof and mystery box would not work.

he is of course still a good director.

Bird is not a director for hire, he is at fault as well. Fanboys cannot just put this all on Lindy.

We've been doing it with Nolan for years. Or any director we worship. If it sucks it's because of everyone but them.

As the director,
Bird is certainly responsible but I am not sure he is at fault for anything.
The film has not bombed yet.

That's why I often ****ing hate fandom, the double/confusing standards are beyond annoying.

So yes according to the critics Bird made a mediocre to bad film but that doesn't mean he has to be trashed for years to come nor should he not get any blame for the film's faults.

Bird did co-write the film with Lindelof. So if anything, he should share the blame instead of just Lindelof.

Bird conceived the story and he is co-writer. He directed the film. He is equally at fault.

This movie looks great, it sounds great, but the plot is bonkers. It's really the third act. A lot of big wind-up and it whiffs on the pitch and the ball whizzes by and strips Charlie Brown to his skivvies.

In some ways, I agree with Bird's commentary and philosophy, but he doesn't turn it into a cohesive story. It turns the movie almost into a propaganda film.

Bird knows how to make family fare by not talking down to the young'uns, that is what I always admired about him. This one has that sense of dread to it, I think.

He stumbled this time around. Randians and objectionists are probably going to love this film.

Here is what I don't get. All the stuff that Bird and Lindelof showed at D23, almost none of that was a part of the film. I don't understand why all that was shown when that didn't seem to be the movie they were making.

It kills me that this movie is getting such lukewarm/poor reviews. Its rotten right now on rotten tomatoes.
I normally don't get all that invested in these things, but this one's breaking my heart a little bit, not gonna lie. Brad Bird was like, my rock. Creatively speaking that is, lol. I mean, it's not like I won't be a fan from now on if I don't like it, because of course I will. I think he's one of the best visual storytellers we have, and I'm already chomping at the bit for Incredibles 2...but I always took comfort in his dependability before, so that won't be the same.

Randian and Objectionists, what are they ? Is that connected with Ayn Rand ?

Yeah imagine all the 'I toldya guys' fanboys come bustling from the woodwork as if they're a bunch of nerdy Nostradamus'.

Is this all the stuff about Walt Disney?

The guy has made nothing but awesome movies. Incredibles is probably the best superhero film.
If this is just an okay film, then he still has a fantastic track record. 3 amazing films, one great one (Iron Giant), and then one okay movie. Not bad at all.
I'm excited to see it and judge for myself.

Bird said he took out the animation sequence because it slowed the movie down.

It is the law of fanboy gods. One slip up, and you are to be crucified. Whedon, Nolan, Singer, and now Bird.

Is this all the stuff about Walt Disney?

Some of it was. There was a thing about a picture with Walt Disney and Amelia Earhart. There was stuff about hidden entrances beneath Disney landmarks. There were hints about Imagineering involvement.

There was this like CD/laser disc prototype that had a film on it. They showed that film at D23. It was fully animated for the film and is on YouTube, but it was cut later on.

Plus Ultra, the cabal of scientists who basically started Tomorrowland is nothing more than a footnote in the film.

Every director stumbles from time to time.

Like Len Wiseman is a director I like a lot, I just wish he wouldn't spend so much time on lazy unimaginative work like the Total Recall remake. Like at one point he was going to do a Mummy remake after a Total Recall remake that bombed...and I just don't get it.

i think the problem we have is that he made the big mistake of working with Lindelof. he should know better.

i guess he wanted to make this kind of movie and needed Lindelof. but its............Lindelof.

Lindelof

We say it's a mistake because of Prometheus and what people don't like about Lost, but from a resume standpoint...it's not a mistake.

Lost is still like one of the most popular shows of all time and it changed TV. Lindelof helped start that.

Thanks.

So it basically sounds like the intended version of this film got chopped and edited into something else.

I was initially interested in this movie mainly because of Bird but nothing marketing has done has intrigued me in the slightest.
