They had a pitch they like, so they're making a movie out of it.

Right, but executives are down on DC properties outside Batman and Superman because they don't produce massive numbers. At this endeavor, I have to question their ability to think. Instead of releasing (ratio) three obscure titles to one big title, they should regroup and take risks.

Their only attempt was Green Lantern, and they butchered the approach.

Why do they need to take a risk? They have Batman and it's inevitable reboot series, a possible Superman series, The Hangover series, the Sherlock Holmes series, the Clash of the Titans series, the Journey series, the Hobbit movies. They took two risks last year in Sucker Punch and Green Lantern and they didn't pay off too well. They'll be fine without any risks for a bit. I'll trust the guys who make the movies for a living.

Do I want Flash? More than anyone. But I'm willing to wait for it.

I actually hope they get the ball rolling on the film this time. I have a feeling it'll be PG-13. But I'm actually okay with that, as long as the film is fun/ridiculous.

It'd be pretty cool if Lobo and Deadpool came out the same year.

I really hope Kevin Durand gets a shot at Lobo though.

Looks like Lobo's going to be in the new season premiere of the Young Justice animated series (just watched the "Invasion trailer), that's awesome! I was hoping they would put him in the show. I actually thought they'd do "Lil Lobo" I also saw they have introduced him into the new DCU... He looks terrible in it. Thanks, Rob Liefield.

It's cool to finally see the main man getting some love again, though!

It is clear that WB has no plan in place, unlike Marvel who are doing everything according to a plan.

WB are wasting their money.

Even if they did they have no pressure on them to follow through with a plan. They are not a Superhero only studio like Marvel. The only way to get Marvel like work ethic is to set up a sub-studio that handles all the superhero property. Give it a modest budget to start with. If it doesn't succeed, then and only then should the main studio interfere.

A Lobo movie done the correct way could actually be a fun deconstruction of the superhero movie sub genre and of anti heroes in general. I don't care what people here who don't even really read comic books let alone don't even know this character have to say about it; there's potential there.

However if this is still the desensitized Lobo movie Joel Silver's been dying to make for years now it could end up being a massive fail. The approach to that project sounded completely wrong for this character and borderline terrible. For one thing they want to give a character designed as such a loner that he eradicated his entire race for his own comfort a teenaged sidekick amongst other ****** ideas.

There's a ton of potential here. Lobo's a nice mix of Wolverine, Hellboy and Deadpool concepts. I'm iffy on the director, but I'll give it a shot.

You know what's going to be fun? What was WB's last DC film? GREEN LANTERN. What did people whine about mostly? Not enough spacefaring, too much Earth. Watch LOBO take place entirely in space, and on different planets. Which is kind of a good thing. If WB can make big space action/settings on a moderate budget, maybe they'll take another look at a GL sequel.

I still don't understand hating on this film right away, along with any film. Give it some time, at least see some set pics/trailer before you call it "Jonah Hex, Part II." Just comes off a little *****ey, IMO. Especially for the people (I guess not that many) that enjoy Lobo. Too many debbie downers!

And I loved him in Superman TAS. The two parter with Lobo was great. Even as you said, watered down. That's why I'm not worried if it's Rated PG-13. It can work, be fun, and ridiculous. Plus PG-13 have been getting away with some crazy stuff. Especially if it takes place in space and he's just killing aliens.

Oh, and the article said the director was going to re-write it... I really hope he "gets" Lobo.

I hope they give Lobo look that he had in the early 90's. Some of the later re-designs of his outfit just look off. Black Jacket with a ripped sleeve and jeans, with long crazy spikey hair and awesome boots. That's personally my favorite look of Lobo.

Excellent points.

I dunno what WB's strategy going forward in the immediate future w/DC films will be.

However, one possibility is to back off the A-listers, except for Batman, and focus on the B/C isters.

It worked for Marvel in spades with Thor and Cap.

It's a lot less risky for WB given the much smaller investment in the secondary character films.

SR and GL failed.

It would not be unheard of if WB has decided to do secondary character DC films in the lead-up to the Batman reboot (2015 or 2016).

At that point, and depending on how the Lobo type films do, WB might be confident enough to do a GL reboot. Or to launch Flash or WW.

IF Lobo takes place 90% on earth (like the live action Masters of the Universe) then this movie is doomed.
