That sounds like a likely starting off-point for the sequel and a great way to introduce braniac. I also think Richard White should turn into Metallo over the course of the next 2 movies (hopefully there are 2). I see it kind of being like the character arc of Harry Osborn in Spiderman.

That will just mess up the character.
Richard is a good guy, he should stay one. He should accept that Lois was always in love with Clark, and if he goes down the dark path it would be stereotypical.
Plus Metallo is John Corben, and should always be that way.

Brainiac was only Kryptionian in TAS. That explanation was then used in Smallville.

You're right, Brainiac was from Colu in the comics, exiled by the computer-tyrants - but I couldn't see Singer using that.

The Kryptonian origin is cleaner I have to admit. And it alows for more character development for Clark.

I feel like the film would be bogged down with two villians. I prefer movies to have one main villian. But I must admit some movies have been doing a better job with this. If Braniac and Metallo are the two villians in the next film someone would have to take a backseat. I have never been a huge Braniac fan. I feel that Metallo would translate much better on screen.

I think Metallo can work in conjunction with Brainiac, who SHOULD be an A.I., it would translate into a personal fight between Superman and him. I say Brainiac could be a guy in make up and gear, with CGI, to make him look like a robot. Something in the vein of STAS would be cool, I think.

Metallo isn't exactly the type of villian to be a huge threat. He'll pose a challenge for Superman physically......but not much else. He could probably be used in the manner that the Scarecrow was used in Batman Begins, serving as a puppet for the bigger villian, in this case Brainiac.

Infact, I think Brainiac probably could have been fitted into SUPERMAN RETURNS, only serving as a tank to hit and take hits.

Thats how i always saw Metallo, as a pawn.
Except for that one episode in STAS on the volcanic island, that just made him cool, I just don't see him as a MAJOR threat.

I think Brainiac has got to be the villian that gets the call next film. He seems like the obvious candidate to me.

I've read the novel. There's no hint of Brainiac in the novel or any segue to another film in the form of a villain.

But....I'm still betting he'll be in the sequel.
