Brett Ratner Confirms DVD Double-Dip

To set the record straight, I hope no one thinks I started this thread to complain. I started it simply to warn those who only want to buy one DVD that they may want to wait for the second release. That is all.

I think it's funny as hell that some here are actually shocked this would happen. :p

I think it's funny as hell what a fricken moron Brett sounds like!

"Well, there's almost an hour-long making-of, my personal making of the movie, my experiences making the movie. There's special features which include, you know, just basically the creation of the movie - I mean, how we did it in the storyboards and original animatics."

"This has basically the deleted scenes and some features, but the Special Edition, I think, is the real disc for the true X-Men fan. It's like the definitive kind of experience that I had personally making this film, when I went into it, from every department's perspective, really."

You, Brett Ratner, sound like an idiot.

So, are you gonna give this guys your money for both versions?

Hell no. I had no intentions on giving them any of my money from the beginning.

^^^ He makes it sound like the special features are just home videos of his life.

"And here's the scene of me making coffee for myself before the big shoot of the day, debating whether or not I should keep the scene in the first place"

just shows you how greedy fox is and how they just want to milk every last red cent out of fans... usually a special edition dvd wouldn't come out at least for sometime like x-men 1.5 came out right around the press for x2, i think that was ok .. but yea.. x3.. blah .. why do i want to watch an hour long special on how they fcked up one of my all time fav series .. n butchered the comics i read as a child .. forget it .. il lcatch it all on youtube or from other posters .. lol !
Well said buddy - I hope the spin off's are Fox's last attempts at exploiting Marvel characters.

That sounds a lot like the youtube parody they made of him...

Except with NewLine cinema it was understood that the special releases would be coming out 6 months later (and they did need time to make them considering they have footage of the release and award shows). Plus they were made available in a wider range of markets, not like here where Region 1 is being screwed over while everyone else gets the extended 2nd disc.

And they've just released the entire LOTR trilogy again--this set contains both the theatrical and extended releases, and a documentary not available on the previous versions, plus some bonus features that I've heard are really good. But I don't want to buy the DVDs again.

I heard about the extended releases from Peter Jackson himself when I saw him at a Q&A, there was no publicity info at the time that the another edition would be released when "Fellowship" came out, because it would stop people from buying the first version. They just came with a $5/$10 rebate for the extended version--once you opened the one you already bought.

There was only a 3-month gap between releases for the first two movies, so I waited for the extended then, but I did cave for ROTK, since it was a 6-month gap.

Peter Jackson also has an extended version of "King Kong" coming out this fall.

As far as "Star Wars," you can't blame Fox there. That's Lucasfilm. Fox only owns the distribution rights. And Lucas has been fleecing fans with video releases for years. The *unaltered* trilogy that was released last week was actually just bonus feature to the discs that were released a few years ago.

The "vault" business Disney has been doing for years. It makes sense, since every 10 years there's a new generation of kids who'd want to see the movies, and it drums up some new business for them.

WB is also going the "vault" route with "Harry Potter" this winter, since they don't have a new movie coming out until next summer, so they can still milk some money out of the franchise.

We'd all be rich if we worked in DVD sales, wouldn't we???

well im gonna still by the october 3rd one anyways because the movie was entertaining and well... i need third one to complete trilogy.

What I think is funny is Ratner comment on how the final product was his directors cut.....lol.

If you want to waste your money that's you. But I can think of a million things that are worth buying than X3.

I don't think people are hating Fox for the double dipping. I think people are hating Fox for all the lies, false hype, and the politically driven film that is X3. In other words, some aren't going to give Fox any money after they ruined the Phoenix Saga.

...and I thank you for that. I was getting ready to spend my hard earned money on it. I can wait for a better version. I'll probably catch it on pay-per-view and save it on my Tivo. I still haven't bought Fantastic Four but I have it on Tivo.:)

So what are you saying? We're supposed to take it lying down. This an X-Men forum so the only one who can be held accountable for double dipping is Fox. Other studios double/tripple dipping tactics has nothing to do with this. People have every right to be angry i think. They're releasing the special edition set in overseas but not in the U.S.

What they're doing is wrong and it should be said.

I'm not saying people should like it.

I'm just saying.

People are acting like Fox, and Fox alone, is solely responsible for the act of double dipping, and that they are some evil movie studio whereas no other studio (Sony is most commonly mentioned) ever makes a studio based on financial gain, and is all about the fans and the artistic integrity.

I'm not saying we have to like studio tactics, or accept them.

I'm just saying, understand that it's STUDIO tactics, and not specifically Fox tactics.

I agree.

I am a fan. I am a fan of the product that we got. In my view, it's worth the money.

The only time I bought a DVD and was disappointed was X-Men 1.5... and that's because the marketing led me on to believe it was a different version of the movie, an extended version like Lord of the Rings, and it wasn't.

I really want an extended version of X-Men with those deleted scenes incorporated into the film, because of the 3 films, that had the best deleted scenes that actually added a lot to the story (I didn't think X2's added much, and I've only seen 4 of the ones from X-Men: The Last Stand so I dunno how those will play out yet)

So what, FOX gets a couple more bucks... making money is what a company does. This doesn't affect any of you, so why complain? They aren't taking your money - it is you who decides to give it away.

I agree about the first film. It would have been nice to get a director's cut, since I know Singer was forced on some of those edits. Scenes like the extended bedroom convo and Rogue's talk with Storm after class go a long way in further developing some of the supporting characters (Cyclops, Storm).

They have the ability to release more features for R1, as proven by the features that everyone else is getting. They choose not to. And that's what we're complaining about. If you don't get that then you're just defending the studio for the sake of defending it.
