Bridge of Spies

The poster reminds me of something that would've come out in 2003.

Or watch it here via YouTube. :cwink:

Since when does Comicbook Resources deal with Cold War films as a topic?:funny:

I'll watch it, but the trailer did nothing for me.

Hanks and spielberg are like peanut butter and jelly, together there magical. Based on this story and trailer were about to have another delicious sandwich.

Spies looks really bland, both visually and trailer-wise. Spielberg needs to shake things up more, like ditching Janusz Kaminski and getting someone else.

I'm honestly getting tired of Spielberg's dramas. He needs to branch out... hopefully The BFG will freshen things up.

I hate to say it, but he's pushing 70's and making movies NOW that would cater more to our parents. And when he does make a movie that's family friendly, its meh.

But then I look at Scoreses and George Miller who are in the same age bracket.

it looks like a Eastwood movie. could be the editing of the trailer.

acting will be good. we know this.

I liked the trailer a lot, but I'm so tired of that same Kaminski look. Spielberg has matured more as a filmmaker but it wouldn't kill him to change things up. Not even switch DP's but to tell Kaminski he wants something different.

It's giving me Munich vibes and if it's as good as that I'll be happy. As that's one of my favourite Spielberg films.

Looks great to me! Definitly looking forwards to it.

Honestly, we haven't had a good cold era film in sometime.

The thing about Scorsese is that he's versatile and for the most part, doesn't do the same thing twice.

I really wish Spielberg would jump outside his sandbox and try something really different outside of serious dramas or family friendly films. I'd like to see him direct a low-budget film, like $10M or less. The man's worth $3 billion, I don't know why he constantly looks for outside financing when he can obviously foot some of the bill himself.

Trailer did nothng for me, but it seems better than his previous films.

Pretty much. Scorsese's always been much more experimental in tackling different subjects, whereas Spielberg is rather traditional in his approach, on a technical and story level, to Hollywood drama and blockbuster pictures.

I think Janusz Kamiński is a talented cinematographer, but he ONLY works when it's for the right kind of movie. His style is often cold, and almost looks digital because it's so clean looking. He has a very specific look, and he goes for that same look when he's working with Spielberg. Even when he creates warmer palates like in War Horse, it still looks cold.

So I don't know why Spielberg uses him as his Go-To guy besides a good friendship. It's kinda annoying.

Since I brought up War Horse...here in the trailer, there so much beautiful imagery and for whatever reason, Kaminski's style doesn't connect with me. I don't know why!

I can only think that Kaminski goes for a cold, shadowy look that works fine for modern movies, but Spielberg is old fashioned with too much inner warmth that it turns people off. So it's this two styles clashing.

The trailer itself looks very "LOOK AT ME, I'M AN IMPORTANT OSCAR MOVIE!", but I have a feeling it might be more of a tense thriller, than it's letting on.

I wish Spielberg would go back to Dean Cundey. Cundey is a flexible DP... and aside from the Adam Sandler ones, each film he lenses is different. Halloween, Hook, Jurassic Park... all brilliantly shot.

The only Kaminski/Spielberg collaboration that really clicked for me was Schindler's List and The Lost World, their first two films together. Everything else didn't really click, including Saving Private Ryan.
