If Whedon's script tried to use the original WW mythology it might not have worked as well for a film adaptation (or at least one that would mesh well with the rest of the DC universe).

It did. The script also read "small" - like TV movie scale.

Yeah, that's what I thought it would be.​

Personally, I think the New 52 origin on film will be amazing to see. I’m almost looking forward more to the other characters in WW’s circle. Hermes, Hades, Strife, Appolo etc. Especially if they use similar interpretations from the comics.​

This does not fill me with confidence. A relatively new and unknown talent who may be an inspired choice but nothing he has written suggests he is the right man of the job. I guess we will just have to wait and see. So that's a relatively unknown actress in the lead, a first time movie director and unknown writer. I sure hope this movies gets some genuine world class acting talent to the roster. Suicide Squad already looks like it's going for it big time compared to this.

Good to see this kid will be writing with MacLaren. WB's must have liked his work on Pan to give him the opportunity to write WW along with being confident enough in having him work on the sequel to Pan. Let's see how Pan turns out.

It will interesting to see if another writer is working with Fuchs and MacLaren as well.

Let's also look at how PAN (from the trailers only, true) has some similarities to WW. Magical island? Check. Ageless characters? Check. Strong willed warrior princess? Check. Extensive use of SFX? Check. Let's also keep in mind you really can't just conclude that he is bad based off of the material he's worked on that got produced. He may have written brilliant stuff that just never got made and landed hired gun gigs like that ICE AGE script to make ends meet. I will start to worry only if I see PAN and it's a train wreck.

Good points. And he is adapting a well-known, well-loved story once again.

I love the Peter Pan novel, and I watch/read all the adaptations I can, to see what they do. Some work, some don't. It's always a bit tricky when it's a prequel, or they give a backstory to a well-known character, or change known things around. That is my concern with "Pan". But if the movie pulls it off then I'm onboard.

So I read the Whedon script. Was grateful for the opportunity because I'd been curious for sooooooooooo dang long.

I remember Whedon saying Diana got shot with a bullet point blank and passed out but survived, and then started using her bracelets to deflect artillery to avoid the pain. That scene was included and very well done, I'd say.

I also recall Whedon saying there was a very specific reason WW had an invisible jet and I was underwhelmed with that part of the screenplay. Meh.

The story was not great, just okay, interspersed with some quite wonderful (pun intended) moments. What I missed most was an epic feel to the story, it just wasn't grand enough in scope to satisfy. Felt more like a TV movie than a blockbuster film, IMO.

That said, the beginning was excellent, especially the battle between Diana and Hippolyta that substituted for the full-scale Contest. But I also cringed a few times, especially when much later Steve Trevor accidentally sat on the lasso and admitted he wanted to see Diana naked. LOL. Then again, Whedon can often pull off hokey scenarios that lesser writer/directors would never get away with. Oh, and I really missed Steve not having current ties to the military or at least some secret Gov agency. He seemed kinda weak, actually. Oh, and a very cool bullets & bracelets bit happened midway through with bad guys circling Diana and shooting at her all at once and she basically became a whirling dervish and deflected every single shell. As for Greek mythology and gods, they were there, but I wasn't convinced this was the best portrayal. Def prefer Azz's take on the gods.

I'm sure it was an early draft and would've improved. Yet I can also see why Warner passed on his concept. He got $7 million(!) for the effort, so he cannot be too sad. My gut tells me the WW film they're working on now with MacLaren will be far superior. Just a hunch.

There's got to be a new take on it, more of an edge, otherwise it might be easily feel hokey and dated. Perhaps Azzarello's take as well as MacLaren's involvement might give it the update it needs, to make it feel more relevant. And why they hired Fuchs, to update an old story, as WB feels he has successfully done with "Pan."

Also, 'writers' might be used loosely by that guy. They could be like Goyer ( No pun intended.) A bunch of ppl pitching story ideas and plot details. Maclaren will definitely have a say.

yeah they probably have a general outline of what they want to happen in it.
they're just getting different treatments on the outline, then taking the best ones to use in the final which will be done by Fuchs and McLaren.

If the 6 writers rumor is true I get the feeling that there was 6 writers and that Jason Fuchs was one of them and he beat out the other 5 for the job and he is now working with Maclaren for final product.
