Bruce Timm announces The Dark Knight Returns animated films

Highway robbery . Instead of buying 1 2hr 30 minute feature , I will need to buy 2 75 minute features:whatever:

I hate the way Superman is portrayed in this story so I hope they make some changes.

They need to keep the film as faithful as possible including Supes

Can't wait to see more about that.

I'm very excited about this. I love The Dark Knight Returns.

I'm not complaining, but I'd rather have a live action version to be honest.

Excellent news! I enjoyed Under The Red Hood and I'm excited about Year One. TDKR is one of my favorite comics and I'm happy that they're making an animated film. However I'd prefer a single animated film that's two and a half hours instead of splitting it in two parts because my only complaint is these animated films are too short.

TDKR would be too messy to do properly in live action. There's a whole lot of different things going on in it. An animated venue is better.

I suppose an animated Watchmen would've been better? Kingdom Come has a lot of things going on in it as well. Would it work better as live action or animation? Hard to say really. All I know is that my gut feeling is "no interest" in an animated version of it. I'd rather just stick to the graphic novel. Then again, Bruce Timm is brilliant so he might pull it off.

Frankly yes. That's coming from someone who enjoyed Snyder's Watchmen, despite the flak it often gets. But I think it would have come off much better as an animated movie.

haha yeah... I liked it well enough also. That's my point though. I don't know if I'm interested in seeing Watchmen (or Dark Knight, etc) as a 2-d animated film. I'll just pick up the graphic novel.

Yeah, but most of us have read the graphic novels. Seeing it brought to life on screen is just another kind of awesomeness.

Superman the Movie is my favorite film but Superman as a government stooge was perfect the way it was done in the GN. It clearly defines and contrast how these character would view the authorities in that time and place.

Fail. It's exactly what Superman would do. Not only siding with the authority in the White House, but he did it to save lives. Other heroes would live as long as he did what he had to do. It was perfect.

So did you hate Under the Red Hood?

You must also be very skeptical of Year One.

I didn't hate under the Red Hood. I'd give it a 7/10. I prefer the original BTAS (bruce timm) style of animation for Batman so I wish they had stuck to that more closely. I always liked "Death in the Family" as well. There are certain graphic novels, however, that achieved greatness within the medium. Watchmen, Dark Knight Returns, Kingdom Come, Maus, etc that I don't think should be done as animated movies because, they are already "perfect." Trying to adapt it to a film that's less than 90 minutes tends to butcher the story and/or leaves out vital elements that us nerds are sticklers for. Or what can happen is that you get a totally different feel visually, and in tone. So yes, for YEAR ONE and DARK KNIGHT RETURNS I'm not quite sure what to think or whether I want to see it. I don't want them to hurt the dynasty so to speak.

The Dark Knight Returns is still one of my favorite graphic novels of all time, up there with Year One, and Watchmen.

The only thing that I sorta don't want is Kevin as Batman. In any other animated series I say yes hands down get Kevin. But DKR was the graphic novel I read as a young boy that helped me imagine Batman with a growl (Eastwood) voice I think Kevin's Bat voice is too soft spoken for DKR's Batman.

But kinda sucks they just don't make it a solid 2.5 hour film instead of two 1 hour and twenty minute films. Oh well regardless I will pick it up day one, very exciting.
