Buffy Season 8

Whedon's not writing any of the issues for, like, the upcoming year, so probably not.

Funny you should mention, though, because the issue is late, and going to be much later; according to darkhorse.com, issue 19 comes out November 19th.

Hey gang,

So sorry for the current delay. Just a few days ago, Buffy #19 should have been on sale, and it is not. We all just slipped -- after a very good stint of getting the book out on time. Was it the magic combination of putting the Fray team back together right when Joss was launching a new TV show that did us in? I'm not saying. But sometimes it all just gets to be more than you can stay on top of, and while we take our commitment to this monthly comic very seriously, we decided we needed to let this issue take its time in order to maintain the quality of the book. That gives us more pride, and you more enjoyment, than its timeliness. And in order to do #19 just right, the page count crept up and up, and we have another 25-pager, that still just costs you a mere $2.99. And with the economy where it is, $2.99 might be harder to come by . . . but it still doesn’t pay for much . . . so it's almost as if we're handing out free comic-book gold!

The good news: Buffy #20 is nearly done, #21 and #22 are all done, and we'll be making up for lost time as soon as we get #19 out.

As for when that will be, we'll post updates online as we get closer; but, please know that the end is in sight. Karl is nearly done, and Andy, Michelle, and Jimmy are the lightning pit crew, so as long as the presses aren't busy flooding U.S. banks with fresh capital, you'll have the book in just a few weeks. On behalf of Joss, Karl, Andy, myself, Sierra, Mike Richardson, President Nixon, Bill Buckner, and the 1986 Mets, we apologize. We'll try to avoid further screwups, but we make no promises we can't keep.
Meh. We will get two issues in December, though.

Awesome. I especially like the ending, where he effectively says the people involved can't promise to do their jobs properly.

Speaking of which, I'll say it: I take back what I said about Dark Willow last time. I still wish that Joss hadn't used her and I still think it comes off derivative, but I'm finding it very interesting now. That she can barely use magic alone is an interesting twist though I suppose she could be lying about that. But, yes, her forlorn attitude here feels not only very different from the evil Willow before but also quite different from what this season has had to offer so far.

:)

So, not so much a rehash of Dark Willow - which many had complained about, as you know, mainly because of the mood it set in S6 that seemed similar to S8's Future Dark Willow, but her motives, persona etc are totally different. And now with the use of magic or lack thereof, another difference is that where magic controlled S6's Willow, this Willow is in control of magic.

And about your saying that you wish we would see more of the Frayverse. I think there's just enough, considering it's still essentially about Buffy.

And Max Shrek - about Harmony, there's a reason that's immediately known as to why she is back, compared to say Amy or Warren whose full story seems to take its time to develop, and also Ethan who was used for primarily the first arc, but Harmony definitely progresses the plot in a way that shakes up the Buffyverse.

I keep forgetting the Buffy and Angel series even exist. The gaps between issues are getting longer and longer.

Actually, Angel had issues out in both September and October. It felt like a huge gap, though.

Oh. Maybe I haven't read the last Angel issue yet. I'm behind on a lot of comics.

Yeah, I think I'm the only one who even popped into the Angel Season 6 thread last month. I think the lack of Buffy is making everyone forget about Angel.

I'm looking forward to that issue...and yet...afraid to read it as well...

Please, oh PLEASE, don't kill Melaka!!!

Meh. Even if they do, I'm sure there are tons of "untold tales" Whedon could use for future stories.

Solicit for #23.

BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER #23

Drew Z. Greenberg (W), Georges Jeanty (P/Cover), Andy Owens (I), Michelle Madsen (C), and Jo Chen (Cover)

On sale Mar 4
FC, 40 pages
$2.99
Ongoing

It's Buffy--and Andrew--on a mission in Italy . . . together! Awkward? Yes!

Since Harmony's television stunt, the ensuing of general vampire-love from the masses, and the destruction of the Scotland base, operations at Slayer headquarters have been somewhat strained. Rogue Slayers--Simone and her gang--have not been helping Slayer-civilian relations with their attacks against the military, bank robbing, and occasional snitching at Hot Topic. Now, Andrew has a lead on how to gain intel on Simone's plans . . . but he has to go to Italy--now! With Xander and Willow busy holding together their Slayer legions Buffy seems to be the only one with an open schedule to act as Andrew's backup. Hours of travel . . . just Buffy and Andrew . . . Really?

Drew Z. Greenberg, veteran of the Buffy TV show as well as Dexter and Smallville, and current writer on The Clone Wars, teams with series artist Georges Jeanty and executive producer Joss Whedon.
Really, Jeanty? Really??

On the plus side, Jo Chen's covers still rock. Why doesn't she do interior work? Granted, I can understand if her work takes so long that she wouldn't be able to keep up, but why not one 4-issue arc?

There's no way I ever would've been able to tell that that's Andrew. Jeanty's really, really bad with his likeness.

Verily.

I remember the first time he popped up in an issue. I had to put on my detective hat.
"I don't recognize this person, but I think it's a guy. And he seems to have some sort of important job in Buffy's crew. He's a Star Wars geek. He's blond, so he's not Xander. Andrew?"

So... surprised this hasn't been mentioned here yet, but the Amazon listing for the Time of Your Life TPB has a BIG yet unspecific spoiler.
"Their (Buffy and Fray) uneasy alliance falls apart, leading to the death of a major character from the TV series."
[blackout]My bet's on Willow.[/blackout]

You're forgetting one thing.
There are two Willows in this storyline. It's entirely possible Dark Willow will die in Haddyn while present Willow still lives. Heck, that could even be the thing Willow sees if she disobeys the snake lady and "looks" into the future.

So [blackout]Willow[/blackout] dies a really, really long time from now in the future. Big deal.

im glad she dies.
all i want to know is how. it better be climactic!
i love willow but her future self really doesnt matter that much. i hope fray kills her.
that'd be cool.

The "Wolves at the Gate" trade comes out today, right?

So...guess who showed up in the latest issue?

It's [blackout]Riley[/blackout], but don't feel bad for not recognizing him. I'm pretty sure no one else did.

And he's [blackout]working with Twilight[/blackout].
....what?
Don't tell me that you actually like a grotesquely fish-eyed Buggy...er, I mean Buffy, with manbrows and plastered makeup.

Meh. Not his best cover, but I still think Jeanty is doing fantastic work here.
