I loved 'the gift' but there were serious crisis on infinite earths overtones at the end

I always thought of this as Buffy's defining image.

buffy_article_narrowweb__300x5060.jpg

That is pretty aweome but the buffy/angel one was on prettty much everything. I have an SFX magazine from 2003 that has the buffy/angel pic on it and of course the CD.

Okay I was just thinking about it and have you ever noticed, how Whedon's male characters (at least on their introduction) always have dramatically less charisma than the female characters?

How so? Are we talking just regular or also recurring characters?

Angel was pretty charismatic when he was introduced, wasn't he? He was certainly charismatic when he was introduced as the central protagonist in his own series.

He was always more brooding than charismatic, the show certainly wouldn't of survived past the first season without Cordy (especially after Killing of Doyle) and what do you know once again it's a girl who is the most charismatic of the group.

The only one I think that was "dramatically" charismatic was Buffy. The reason I loved this show is because you could relate to all the characters on a very basic humane level, both male and female.

For dramatically charismatic females, I'd point to Grey's Anatomy. It seems every female character has had their fill of ridiculous self serving soliloquies on that show.:oldrazz:

Are you talking purely about likability? Because yeah, Cordy was more likable than Angel. So was Wesley. But Angel was more interesting and more compelling a character than either of them until season 3.

It would appear someone misunderstood me when I said...

In that example "dramatically" took the place of the term "a lot":o

I got the jist of what you were saying and I replied by saying that I don't think the males have "a lot less" charisma than the females, with Buffy being the only exception. It's why I like the show, as I said.

Buffy was easily the least charismatic character by the end of the series. "Heavy is the head that wears the crown"--and boring, apparently.

season 8 news from newsarama

Buffy Season 8 will finish up a crossover with characters from Whedon's former comic series Fray, then Jeph Loeb is coming on for a single issue that will pick up on a "couple of things they weren't able to do with Buffy." After that, Jane Espenson, who was a writer for the Buffy television show, will kick off a five-issue arc featuring stories by the show's TV writers. In the story, Buffy's world goes public. "Vampires become common knowledge and it changes everything for the slayers," Allie said. Following that arc, Espenson comes back for five-issue arc featuring Oz. Then Brad Meltzer will be writing five issues before the series wraps up.

returning character- makes buffy so much better!!

Ooh, the Espenson development sounds pretty awesome. I've been waiting for something like that.

After watching Prophecy Girl today I
Buffy
Best Episode - The Gift (beyond brilliant)

Love that episode so much was fantastic, the ending part where shes running and what she says to Dawn on I loved it, was sad and frakking cool.

Heres something:

Did everyone notice that basically every main female cast member has turned into something supernatural?

Buffy- The Slayer
Willow/Tara- The Witches
Dawn- The Key
Anya- The demon
Cordelia- visions/higher power
Fred- Illyria

Out of both shows, Xander was the most normal of everyone.

Don't be ridiculous seasons 6 & 7 weren't that bad, they may not of had the same charm as the other seasons, but when they decided to have a darker tone we knew they wouldn't, however several episodes (Such as Chosen and Once More With Feeling) are up there with the best of Buffy and in essence the only reason why hardcore fans of Buffy don't like the final 2 seasons is because Buffy was depressed / dealing with post traumatic shock, which was reflected in the other characters and several episodes felt slightly detached from the rest, I really hate people keep having a hissy fit, because they tried to make it more of a grown up series rather than their normal happy go lucky tone.

You're right about the first part. "God-awful horrible" was hyperbole, but I just remember the episodes that I did watch of those seasons failed to catch my attention. Some things were ridiculous, and I ended up just skipping a week or two, etc. I couldn't stand The Trio being the main villains for the whole Season 6. I didn't care for Tara or Dark Willow. I didn't care for all of the Potentials in Season 7, among other things. Of course, I hadn't seen those episodes since their original airing, but I do remember loving Seasons 1-5 and not 6-7. It's not that I am having a hissy fit, or because I didn't like how they were trying to make a "grown up series (huh?)," or that Buffy was struggling with her inner demons. I just didn't like it.

Actually LSM's comment just made me wonder, who are your 5 favourite characters from Buffy and Angel? Mine are...

1. Faith Lehane
2. Buffy Summers
3. Cordelia Chase
4. Rupert Giles
5. Willow Rosenberg

Favorites:

1. Angel
2. Wesley
3. Giles
4. Cordelia
5. Gunn

Anya- The demon

Well Anya was a demon first so other way round for her lol

I did love how she had to learn about being human and how she said inappropriate things, like when Buffy's mum died she had no idea what was wrong and right to say lol

And bunnies! Anya was a great character I was sad when she died :(

Anya was human who was made a demon who became human again until she asked to be a demon again before she asked to be human again

I totally forgot that need to watch the older seasons more ....:p

Here's a question for you guys, which main / regular character's death had the most emotional impact?

Out of
Buffy (Prophecy Girl)
Jenny Calender (Passion)
Angel (Becoming Pt 2)
Doyle (Hero)
Joyce Summers (I Was Made To Love You / The Body)
Buffy (The Gift)
Tara (Seeing Red)
Anya (Chosen)
Fred (A Hole In The World)
Wesley (Not Fade Away)

(Is there anyone I forgot?)

For me it was either Tara, Anya or Fred, Tara because of it's impact on Willow, Anya's death because I loved her lol, and Fred because of all the Pylea stuff, she'd only just got her life back, then bam she gets killed.
