The Dark Knight Burton on TDK - kind of

I agree and disagree with Burton... Sure there are many valid versions of a particular character, but there are those versions that always rank up there as favorites... Take James Whale and Frankenstein, for instance.

In fact I can't remember one single Frankenstein movie that is 100% faithful. Same with Dracula.

EDIT: MAN, second page already!

I like what Burton said about these stories being like folk tales and everyone has their own version. I mean that isn't news to most of us, but it's nice to know that Burton understands that aspect of it, and that maybe the people out there who think Burton's vision is the only true vision will read his words and, because he said them, decide that his version is just one of many valid intepretations.

Oh, who am I kidding, that'll never happen.

But still, Burton's right.

Yeah. People need to keep an open mind.

In truth, there is no definitive Batman or definitive Gotham City. It is all in the eye and perception of the beholder. It is a personal opinion. While keeping our personal preferances, we also have to acknowledge others' visions; that way, we get the bigger picture.

Tim Burton kicks an untold amount of ass. Incidently, I just saw the Nightmare Before Christmas in 3-D a couple of hours ago, and was reminded of just how much of a friggin masterpiece that movie is.

Tim Burton does indeed pwn all of us.

I thought it was interesting. I expected Tim Burton going on a rant about how his stuff is better because he never even had to read Batman and so forth...

Burton's "I never read comics" quote was such a lie coming from his mouth.
he read Year One and Dark Knight Strikes Again along with some of the original Bob Kane issues before taking on the Batman film.

i still want to be him, and he still owns my soul, but i wouldn't put much stock in anything he says to the press. he usually contradicts at a later time.

Nice interview but honestly Ive never been a Tim Burton fan.
I know Im in the minority and I think the only movie I enjoyed from him was Sleepy Hollow.

That's because you have horrible taste.

I dunno.....I think Burton certainly "gets it". That the character is, basically, like an everlasting legend that will always get it's own spin depending on who's helming it.

I mean, his line "these franchises are bigger than us puny humans" is funny.....but....kinda true. I mean, the character is that big.

I like Burton's movies and his Batman of course. I know one phrase he says a lot was there.. " you know". That must be his favorate words he sure said it a lot on The Batman and Batman Returns DVD commentaries.

Burton hates to do press and have to explain his work/vision.
that's why he wears the big sunglasses and gives four contradicting answers to the press about his work.

That's because there aren't any. Here's a challenge; name a 100% faithful adaption of anything, from any medium into another one.

Yeah. The fact is, he can't explain himself in words. His movies speak for him.

everyone should just read Burton On Burton if they want to know his opinions about Batman. and, he totally did read comics before making movie...so please stop throwing that quote around.

Re-phrasement: Every Frankenstein movie differs from the book in a big way. Same with Dracula.

I agree with Burton, there is no such thing as a definitive version of bump.

Whether or not you liked his Batman flicks, you have to admit, the guy has class.

He knows Batman is bigger than him or anything he's done. He's actually quite the humble guy, and not the moron/weirdo/jerk most people would make him out to be.

Yeah, I agree with those who's response has been, "two friggin' questions?!?!?" but c'mon what did you expect? You think EW was expecting Burton to bad-mouth Nolan. I mean. . .did he even bad-mouth Schumacher? lol.

No what I meant was that two questions wasn't enough so I would have like couple of more (not to "bad-mouth" Nolan)

So why'd you bump it? I mean whats the point of bumping a thread you don't like? I don't bump threads that I have no interest in.

Bump.

Yeah, I guess. But, Batman really wasn't the point of the interview. He was there to talk about Nightmare Before Christmas.
